Deadpool (contains spoilers, obviously)

Was waiting to see who the first negative comment was by :P

"Already the beneficiary of some bafflingly positive reviews, this squalid, misogynistic entertainment speaks of a chronic insecurity in the superhero universe. Constantly apologising for its own idiocy – the credits describe the director as “some douchebag” and the male lead as “God’s Perfect Idiot” – Deadpool plays like a dim 15-year-old’s impression of what a grown-up superhero film might look like.

The protagonist still dresses in a leotard, but he says rude words and he gets to see actual bosoms. You don’t get that in Thor. You do, however, encounter such things in the dire Kick Ass and the worse Kingsman. Far from being any sort of innovation, the sweary, 16-cert po-mo action film now constitutes it own horrible genre."

That about sums it up. Thank you Irish Times.

Did you watch the trailer before deciding to watch it?

Caught half of it when going to see Spotlight/Room, can't remember which. Didn't know much about it other than that, was never much of a comic person. Saw a few friends say it was brilliant, had a voucher for a single cinema ticket that was about to expire so found myself going to see it as there was nothing else I hadn't seen on.

Not seen this yet but "the worse kingsman". What? Kingsman was brilliant you weirdo.

Ah, that makes sense. Anyone who has seen the trailer or following the movie's release would know what to expect. I enjoyed it. Basically it's an R rated upgrade on Iron Man.

Is that a real review? the dire Kick Ass and worse Kingsman

I think they're in the wrong job. You don't see that kind of filth in Thor

It was about what I expected. Some nice action, some good jokes, but also a lot of ones that felt flat. Meta humour isn't my kind of thing, and the 4th wall breaking with pop culture references starting getting quite annoying an hour in.

This was essentially the perfect adaptation of Deadpool, it's just that he's character I don't really like.

On their Facebook, he was receiving 100% flak for this review. I actually couldn't find anyone agreeing with him. Funny how.many people mentioned Kingsman too :D Seems like a strong case of sending the wrong reviewer to the film..

Saw it tonight, thought it was very good. Funnier than I expected.

I'd have given it the same review, without the Kingsman reference - I haven't seen that.

Kingsman was in my top 10 films of last year. Deadpool will most likely be in my top 10 films this year. Irish times is a Moyes. Dickheads.

I found kingsman much more enjoyable than Deadpool :nervous:

I'd say that the thing Kingsman really had over Deadpool was a stronger villain. Jackson played a fun, self-aware, almost comical villain that suited the tone of the movie, whereas I felt like the British guy in this kind of made the tone a little bit more serious than it needed to be at times. Both worked very well as satires of their own genre that still have plenty of fun action, though.

Yeehoo! Saw it tonight. Laughed a lot. I had kept my expectations low going in and luckily enough it was easy to do so because noone was interested in speculating/discussing it to Star Wars levels. I thought it was great and I could easily watch it again right now. Three cheers for RyRey! :D

Yeah, agree with that. Samuel Jackson played the role to perfection as expected. I also thought the story had a bit more to it than Deadpool. Didn't help that half the dialogues were fecking half censored here.

Honestly, this movie wasn't as good as I expected. The humour and script was not bad, but the storyline was too generic and not befitting of Deadpool at all. I mean, Deadpool isn't someone to fall that deeply in love with a woman so much so that he'd get rid of his powers. That's not Deadpool! Then, the whole movie doesn't show us enough Deadpool. There's way too much Wade Wilson and not enough Deadpool to really make this worth it. I feel like Marvel made this first movie as a sort of prequel with the next couple of movies showing the actual Deadpool and not Wade Wilson.

If this movie had more Deadpool and less Wade Wilson, I'd have given it a 9/10. However, for me, this movie's a proper 4.5/10 for its shallow, cheap storyline, boring, generic characters (bar Deadpool), and a lack of Deadpool, overall. The only saving grace was the script, the humour, and Ryan Reynolds doing as best as he could to portray Deadpool under such a restricted, limited scope.

What's especially sad is that the beginning showed so much promise, and then it all went downhill from there...

@mazhar13 its not marvel. He didn't want his powers gone, he wanted the side affects gone.

I loved the movie but I'd agree with that (with the exception of your low rating). The "deadpool" scenes were brilliant but the flashbacks were a little weak. It was still a entertaining movie and the Deadpool scenes were hilarious, even if the villain was a bit weak (which seems to be the case of most marvel villains in movies - regardless of it being fox, Sony or marvel).

People do need to understand that the budget for this was microscopic compared to most superhero films or even most films coming out of Hollywood via big studios and was also made in a very short time frame. With that in mind, they played it smart by showing the origin story in an interesting way, spliced in between the Deadpool action. It was a smart move as it was still entertaining and got people watching it, and now they can up the budget and REALLY show what he is all about.

Yep, that was in the back of my head as I was watching it. I think they used their budget extremely well. Looking forward to seeing it again.
