De Gea contract talk | Signs new deal

Just give the man what he wants, doesn't make sense if we don't, he is our best player and we won't sign another GK anywhere near his quality

He'll sign especially if we maintain progress and bring in some good players

Madrid signing Courtoius was a godsend

PSG are already battling with FFP and their priority seems to be midfielders

Juve were the other big contenders and I can't see them paying him anywhere near that kind of money

I love a guy who does his contract negotiations on the pitch, rather than in the media through his agent :)

And If I am gonna be honest - I am more concerned about Martial leaving than DDG. De Gea looks happy at United, Martial…I am less convinced about

I need to see his face transposed onto all those Arsenal fans at the weekend shouting "where's the f***ing money?" It's so much more catchy than 'show me the money'.

He will sign, at least if we show a bit of upwards trend and sign couple of great players to help us get there.
Loosing him won´t be an option as he isnt replaceable.

I think we'll wait until we sell players like Fellaini, Darmian and Rojo and the move from those contracts will go towards bumping up De Gea and Martials.

I wonder if we're procrastinating to get Sanchez off the wage bill in the summer?

The sort of money that Sanchez is on, makes it almost impossible to move him on anywhere apart from China. I do hope that we can get him fit and playing somewhere close to what he was for Arsenal. He may have cost nothing in transfer fee, but that 350k per week really sticks in ones craw. Especially if your name is Anthony Martial.

Who remembers when this guy first apperared on the scene. Everyone ( pundits etc.. ) was having a pop at him and the little mistakes he was making. Even pointing out saves he was making with his feet. Pure gold.

Give him the 300k. The increase from his current deal of around 200k costs us an extra 26m over a 5 year deal. Not going to get anywhere near his level of a replacement without stupid money.

Come on Ed, you know it makes sense.

At the time even though he made a few mistakes his talent was so damn obvious, took pundits ages to swallow their pride and admit they were wrong about him.

I remember this. Was pissing me off big time. Everything he did had to fit in the narrative of Utd not being able to properly replace VDS as we couldnt replace Schmeichel before that...it was a loads of codswallop. He took a while to grow into the confidence he needed for England and the high-balls - but it wasn't like he was shaky or dodgy. As you say - even when he made saves with his legs people said it was "unorthodox" and looked a bit off. I wish they'd own up to it now though.

Exactly right, he is worth far more to us than £300 a week. He is the core of the team and will entice other top players, especially Spanish to the team.
Ps
On top of his beautiful game he has also been extremely loyal even through the dark last 4 years or . Personally, I would have slung my hook for a team which is current.

Are we affected by the PL wage increase rules?
From what I've read it seems you can only increase your wages by £7M a year unless you can show that the excess is due to increases in operating profit

I'd imagine with our endless new sponsors, operating profit is increasing year on year and maybe this doesn't effect us

But something to think about anyway

Rob Dawson: "David De Gea is happy to commit his future to Manchester United but is pushing for a deal that would make him one of the club's highest paid players, sources have told ESPN FC...the goalkeeper, who turned 28 in November, is aware that this could be his last sizeable contract and he is keen to be included in the club's top wage bracket alongside Paul Pogba and Alexis Sanchez."

Maybe I am spoiled by the longevity of VDS and Buffon, but I believe excellent keeprs can still get a sizeable contract even at age 33 or 34.

It’s a lot of money but if ever there was a no brainer for extortionate wages, it’s DDG.

There are no better keepers in world football. Maybe better keepers at kicking but certainly no better shot stoppers and if anyone disagrees with me they are wrong :)

We should be tying down our world class stars and DDG is young enough to give us so many more years.

Get it done Ed!

I'm sorry, but I don't want him to sigh new contract, not yet anyway. After CL final. If he signs now, he will turn to shite just like Luke did, and then we are doomed.
meh, joking, it's Dave after all.

Let's be honest, DDG is making the right move by running down his contract personally.

He's going to get a better offer by the club if they fear he could leave, and he can potentially use offers from other clubs to negotiate even more.

He's in no rush to renew as he's clearly in demand, so why would he commit early?. Also the fact that things were going south quickly under Mourinho, no wonder he was hesitant.

I think we will sit down this summer and get it sorted. He loves it here, he's loved here. With the team getting better i'm sure he will stay.

It is absolutely an issue; especially after the Sanchez-deal. I hope De Gea will sign, and there is some hope that what you are referring to does not make it possible to extend his contract until the summer; when we probably will be forced get rid of Sanchez and/or other players on high wages as Mata/Fellaini/Lukaku/Matic.
Our wage bill is the major hindrance to us signing new players and extending De Geas contract. Its not if Koulibaly will cost 80m or 120m. Thats pretty much irrelevant.

He couldn't play shite if he tried. Yes, I did see the white text.

If DDG isn't paid top whack at United then the board of directors need sacking.
This dude is irreplaceable and the best on planet earth.
Why the delay?
Get him signed up immediately at any cost, he's more important to the future of MUFC than Sanchez is and is worth more pay than him.

If Sanchez really is such a professional as claimed and shown by his cringeworthy instagram videos, he'd take a pay cut to play regularly. Send him to Italy in exchange for Koulibaly or Skriniar.

Pay cut Sanchez and give it to DDG. Seriously he is our Leo Messi. We can't afford losing him IF and it's a big If, it is only about money.

Agreed completely. Personally hoping money is the issue.

I read somewhere earlier he wanted £300,000 a week. I'd give him that and whatever else he wants on top. As I have previously mentioned just give whatever he wants, even if it's more than Sanchez. I personally am happy to pay a player terrific wages if they have earned it.

Which he most definitely has in my opinion.

Think we could get a replacement for Martial a lot easier than De Gea. De Gea is a match winner so many times, Martial has done that about half a dozen times in 3 seasons.

If we can pay a non starter £350000-£500000 a week or whatever it is, then we can pay our only WC player £300000. Hes right to demand it.

I'm not worried about him leaving to be honest. The top 3 in Spain all have their keepers and PSG is a step down due to their league.

He knows he's loved by fans, the players and the club. The club is also on the way up, it's a perfect him to renew. Just a money agreement is all that's missing.

If all he wants is 300k, just give him 350k

Give him whatever he wants plus 50k more, he worths every penny of it.

I genuinely think him staying hinged on Mourinho’s future. Now that he’s gone, I think it will just be a matter of time before he signs.

Let's not make this another comparison between two of our players, we've had a lot of those. Martial has shown incredible talent, and probably hasn't reached his peak yet. De Gea is the best in the world in a completely different position.
