De Gea contract talk | Signs new deal

However, in your argument, you forgot to factor in the sum United would earn if he were to be sold. That would be way more than 70 million.

That said, I firmly believe that he should be given whatever he demands to stay put
We won't really get any good fee for a keeper with a year remaining on their contract. Courtois went for 35m

A keeper is still a keeper, as good as he is. That is mucho money. Too much actually. No other team would offer that.
So we're paying through the nose for players...
The club itself cannot attract the best anymore, unless we flash the cash...

And we moan about City?

We may need to flash extortionate amount of cash for awhile to attract players, Until we start challenging for trophies again like we used to. And then maybe players will be attracted to us again because we are Manchester United and not just because we are willing to pay more than the next team.

That, I’m afraid is the consequence of prying a 29 yr old declining forward from other interested parties to give your manager his desired toys. Most people at the time thought it was a fantastic coup, but realistically look at what it’s done to the morale and negotiation stance of our top players - they all feel that they entitled to similar especially since the said player has underperformed in his role. This is what’s happening with DDG, Pogba and Martial at the moment - even Young wants to climb on the bandwagon. Now that the wage (dis) parity has been set, the club will have to bear the consequences. Hindsight is a b!tch but surely those well paid in the club should have foreseen this...

It's very simple, either you give him the 400K or watch him walk. You can bet PSG would give him that much. If you think Romero or Pereira is good enough for us or we can bring in someone else, fair enough. You could shell out 90 million pounds for oblak and hope he wants to come and adjusts well to the Premiership. Otherwise, you bite your lip and pay it and hope he lives up to the deal.

Isn't that the point though? Liverpool have a goalkeeper who is a proper tier or two bellow De Gea but they're doing just fine. They wold spend the reported 400 a week somewhere else.

Again, it's not my money and I'm really happy we have De Gea but it just seems odd we have the worlds best goalkeeper and will be investing so heavily in it now without a proper investment in our outfield players. It's just a shit ton of money! All I'm wondering is, is it really worth it? I mean how much difference can a goalkeeper make even if he is De Gea? The again, we don't have a lot to offer him. Money it is :(

No,Liverpool have significantly improved since they got a world class goalkeeper, we would have won or qualified for nothing over the last few years without DDG.

Ed logic: Give him £150k with a £250k clean sheet bonus. Neglect spending on defending = no clean sheets = no bonus. Money saved!
:)No goal keeper would sign a clean sheet bonus contract with Jones, Lindelof and Bailly in-front of them

Great news!
Do people really think we're going to get a top level replacement for chicken feed wages?

The best bet in my opinion would be to give him what we wants as we have got the best in the world and he us playing available.

If we were in the market for a new keeper people would ask stupid prices eg I've heard £90m Oblak. Also there is no guarantee the next keeper is going to do well or might take a long time to bed in which I don't think we have as that would mean us falling even further behind.

Without Dave we'd be in sh!t street without a shovel. It took us years to properly replace Schmeichel with Van Der Sar and that is when we were playing decent.

We were lucky to get Dave for a decent fee and develop him into the best about, Please don't let the same scenario happen with Dave, dont want to have wait years for another world class goalkeeper.

We are not worthy. He should get the captaincy too.
As good as he is, he's never struck me as a captain, that said none of our players really strike me as a captain.

"David De Gea is edging closer to committing his long-term future to Manchester United, sources have told ESPN FC, with the goalkeeper unconvinced by the merits of a move away from Old Trafford to Juventus or Paris Saint-Germain....
...even before the dismissal of manager Jose Mourinho on Tuesday, the United hierarchy had become aware of De Gea's readiness to consider a new deal worth in the region of £350,000 a week to stay at the club."

Deserves to be the highest paid player at the club. Must view it as an insult seeing what dross like Sanchez are paid after he keeps us in game after game

It'll happen. I expect Martial and DDG to stay now. Still think Sanchez will move in the summer.

We'll have to offer Martial more money if he's to stay, seems it's a financial issue rather than a managerial one

I think Martial's gone, personally. We've messed him around a bit too much since he joined us really, Mourinho really was the worst thing that could've happened to Martial.

DDG, Martial and Pogba will probably all stay if we can start playing good football and challenging the top teams in the EPL and Europe next season. Otherwise, they'll probably walk.

I'd be surprised if any of these extended their contract here until we at least sign our full time manager.

He finds that he has nowhere to go now so he'll surely sign. I'm more concerned about Martial's one

Agreed,I feel like there's a real chance that a club like Bayern, who will be in need of young wingers when Robben and Robbery leave after this season, would be chomping at the bit to get him in during the summer with a year left on his contract

Long way to go. We've got until August 31 to sort this out, by which time we'll have a new manager.

Although I agree Mourinho was terrible for him. And for most of our attacking players tbh.

On the average form that he's shown so far at United, I very much doubt Bayern or equivalent elite sides would try to sign him! Certainly not for the reported wage demands

Bayern have signed the likes of Gnabry and Coman, who are both inferior players, in recent years and that was before the likes of Robben and Ribbery were tipped to leave. I have no doubt in my mind that they'd be interested especially with his contract winding down

I do doubt that wages would be an issue with Bayern given how much better of a position they're in as a club than us,the exorbitant wage demands are likely exclusive to United given our shambolic wage structure where dross players are amongst the highest paid around. It's no surprise that agents will try to get as much as they possibly can get from us

Martial's contract demands seem almost exclusively driven by wage demands, if reports are to be believed. He's hardly likely to take a substantial cut to play elsewhere.

Despite what your post claims, we are in a better position to offer higher wages to Martial than Bayern are.

Listen to our 'fans'. "We don't deserve good players"... you'd think we're a relegation club.
No you'd think we're shite and struggle to qualify for the Champions League when we have the best goalkeeper in the world, he should be winning the thing not sweating over fourth. Fact.

When I said they're in better position,I didnt mean in terms of finances, they're not even in the same bracket on that front. I meant it as they're a very well run football club overall and have had football men in charge making the important decisions instead of money men.

My point was that I think he'd likely be willing to take a bit less money to be in a better situation for winning trophies and advancing his career. The best thing we have to offer at the moment is and has been money for the last few years and agents know that and take advantage unsurprisingly

Make it 5 years with this +1 year idea at least, paying him a tonne is fine but I’d like 4 years minimum before he needs negotiating with again.

We’ve got until January next year before he can agree terms with another club.

He has been on verge of signing a contract for months now.

It's like when Woody is planning a bid...it never gets done!!

Dave and Maytial yes, Pogbas off without a doubt.

He's too good for us. Potential ruining his career. Thank you Dave, a club legend as far as I'm concerned.
