De Gea contract talk | Signs new deal

Just seems beyond daft to say anything is without a doubt after what’s happened this week? All the noise about him leaving was to do with Jose.

Let's be realistic, of we don't make the CL then he's off. The general consensus on here is that we won't make the CL, and the idea of winning it causes fits of laughter from some.

No you'd think we're shite and struggle to qualify for the Champions League when we have the best goalkeeper in the world, he should be winning the thing not sweating over fourth. Fact.
Doesn't mean to say players shouldn't be honoured to wear our badge. Whether our fans recognize it or not we are a massive and historic club.

When I said they're in better position,I didnt mean in terms of finances, they're not even in the same bracket on that front. I meant it as they're a very well run football club overall and have had football men in charge making the important decisions instead of money men.

My point was that I think he'd likely be willing to take a bit less money to be in a better situation for winning trophies and advancing his career. The best thing we have to offer at the moment is and has been money for the last few years and agents know that and take advantage unsurprisingly
That's fair. I think we have enough clout, money, and depending on what the board does , direction that we can counter a Bayern.

I think we got the point. You sound like you're sorry for him.

I was watching the City documentary on Amazon, Aguero said he was good friends with De Gea and spent a lot of time with him. He's similarly committed his best years to stay in Manchester, so his influence and outlook may play a part in De Gea staying.

I think him staying so long might be down to him being generally bad at settling in at a new place.

It was very tuff for him when he started here and he will proberly rather not go through that again. Just see how he has performed on the national team.

I think De Gea knows this and knows he performs best in a safe enviroment

That or he loves the money...

Is this true? Get rid of this Spanish Judas instantly.

I agree with this. Also after his howlers with Spain, the fact that we offer comparative unconditional support tugs at his heart strings? I’m sounding a bit too fluffy now but here’s hoping!

Aguero seemed pretty lonely when he was being interviewed. His friends are Otamendi and De Gea - due to knowing each other at Atletico.

He came to us when we were only in the EL. I think the CL is very important to players, but so is lovely money, and we dish that out.

Who? De Gea?

Think you May be mistaken. Fergie signed him and we never finished lower than 3rd under Fergie.

Tbh at this rate hes gonna end up being considered in the conversation for, if not outright our best ever GK based on his loyalty during the shitstorm we’ve been for most of his time here and pure talent.

The club probably isn't dragging anything out, it is DDG rightfully being in doubt about signing due to our lack of competitivness for these last years. It is up to the management to convince him that we are going places, this is a player that deserve to be in a team considered both league and CL favourites. He won't leave for a nothing club like PSG for money, if he leaves it is because he doesn't believe in the progress of the team, or if he wants a change of scenery to his native country.

If he does leave, we have to spend at least 50m on a new keeper. Just spend that 50m on his new 5yr contract i say.

Just give him whatever he wants

Rename the club if he wants it, we've been DDG United FC for the last 5 years anyway

So if we want the best goalkeeper in the World for 5 more years - we have to fork out roughly £75 Million in wages….jeez what a difficult decision. He could ask for £500.000 a week - we would be mad to turn it down

It doesn’t work that way though. If he does leave it will presumably be for a huge fee. So you can incorporate that into your sums. Which makes the decision a little less straightforward.

He’s not going anywhere. The biggest threat was always Real Madrid and that obviously won’t happen anymore.

If he's only asking that much then we should pay it immediately. 5 years @ £300k is only about 5.2 M per year above what he currently gets. That's about £26M over the course of his contract.... much cheaper than replacing him (and he's irreplaceable).

If there was any doubt in Ed's mind, yesterday would have cleared it.

Unlikely, he's entering the final year of his contract (assuming we trigger the option). It will be an Alderwereld type situation.

If salary budget is an issue, I would happily let Sanchez go to China and take his +300k salary and give it to De Gea. At least DDG has actually been consistently the best for years and no one (either from the fans or the squad) will dispute that he deserves it. Unlike Sanchez who's been stealing a fortune for nothing over the past year.

He must be kept. Throw money at him.

£300,000-a-week? Damn David holding the club to ransom. Why not promote another young goalkeeper from our academy? Isn't it supposedly the United way?
