De Gea contract talk | Signs new deal

Situations like Arsenal last year and Man Utd at the moment only give some players an excuse to quit the club for greener pastures. DDG may just be considering taking advantage.

A player of his caliber needs to be competing for the major trophies(PL and CL). And we don't seem to be doing that any time soon.

It's a fact that the dream for players from the Iberian peninsula is playing for Barcelona or Madrid. I am glad that I was able to see DDG play for our club for 8 years. He has always remained professional even during 2015 when we nearly lost him, when LVG benched him and he came back and cemented himself as the numero uno in his position. Sir Alex truly was a great spotter of talent ( didn't he personally go and see him play?) and I am sad that we have managed to waste one of the last gifts that Sir Alex left for the club.

This is one of the reasons I always root for the youth coming from the academy. We can say that for most of them,United would be the club they like and would love to play.

If kepa is worth that much, I hope we can get more than 100 million euros for Dave.

Romero can be a decent first choice for a year or two. Has anybody watched Dean Henderson or Joel Pereira play? Have they shown the ability to be first choice keeper?

Kepa had just signed a six year deal and Chelsea had to trigger his release clause to get him. There's no chance DDG leaves for anything remotely close to that unless he signs a new deal.

Oh.So he is going to leave for peanuts, huh.

My day is ruined.

Peanuts? More like for nothing. £19 million fee has all been amortised or whatever it is. He owes United nothing, he’s hung round for years awaiting a team worthy of his talents and been very professional.
I can see him going to either of the Madrid clubs as he’s better than both their starting options in my opinion.

Be weird if he left, surely there would only be a couple of teams he’d be interested in going to and most have decent keepers. If he was available on a free tho you’d have to wonder if someone would move for him. I think he’ll end up signing and at the moment he is just waiting to see what is happening with the manager.

Juventus, PSG are a good shout imo and in need for a new big name GK

He would have signed it in the summer if we'd put it on the table and supported him after his bad WC.

He's also a big fan of Mourinho and his current GK coach.

If someone else came in, he'd have to think twice.

The Anti-Jose and Pro-Woodward fans looking like clowns yet again.

Do you know these things for a fact? That the new contract wasn't offered to him and that he's a big fan of Mourinho?

As always when it comes to DDG and contract concerns, my stance is that the guy has given his all for United and deserves to be at a team that is challenging at the top. My hope is that the recent goings on will spur the board into action again and we back our manager and invest in the needed players and that united is the team where DDG can compete consistently.

The more I think about what an unfair advantage United have amassed financially and we still can't get our shit together.

Won't be mad if he goes.
He has been a great servant and professional. We dont deserve a player of his talent ATM, I mean even Glazers' children will be reluctant to play for us ATM.

I think he'll re-sign for us but then shortly afterwards he'll ask for a transfer, rather than him walking out of this club as a free transfer. He's been here for 8 years and this club has not progressed since SAF.
PSG would be a good suitor for him, they've got 40 year old Buffon that needs a replacing.

If he went who do we replace him with who isn't at a great club already? Why would a world class goalie come here? Who are the up and coming goalkeepers?

He is either DDG's agent or just another one of our fans reaching for ways to make this evidence of how poorly run we are or how Woodward is a joke.

Feel like I see so many random claims stated as fact so that we can use it as a stick to beat our own club with.

Yeah Juventus was the one I was thinking, not so much PSG but who knows. Just wonder if Juventus could cover his wages, Ronaldo and Dybala as I’d imagine those 2 are on pretty high fees.

I think he’ll sign, there is a lot of talent in the squad just need a competent manager to get the best out of it.

Apparently we've got 11 players out of contract next summer.

De Gea
Martial
Valencia
Herrera
Mata
Jones
Smalling
Shaw
Young
A. Pereira
Darmian

Lot of deadwood there, but still very worrying.

Half of those are on 4+1 contracts and we have the option to extend for 1 more year, so it's really not as bad as it seems. De Gea and Martial are in that bracket, as is Pereira.

The concerning ones that aren't are Smalling and Shaw. I'd be renewing both of those before January, before they can sign pre-contracts elsewhere. Maybe Herrera and Mata too. I view neither of the latter two as quality long term options, but to let both leave for free would be quite a hit considering they cost an accumulated £68m, and that was pre-Neymar silliness. We won't get anywhere near that amount back, but both could still be sold for decent fees.

One thing that Mourinho seemed good at from the beginning was getting us good fees for players, after years of the club being rather charitable when selling on. It's odd that we're in a position where a number of pretty good players could walk for nothing.

My experiences dealing with him is he is a die hard Jose fan so even the slightest hint that DeGea might not be happy with the manager was probably enough to set him off. You could tell him Jose is going grey and he’d deny it and say you have an agenda.

We're really lucky he didn't left years ago and gave his best in every game for the club. That's really sad. PSG, Juve, Barca. I hope he stays of course.

PSG, Juve, much can happen within a year or two too.

Not surprised one bit if he wants to move on no matter who's the next coach, he's been here for far too long if he wants to win things really, he's seen it all, no reason to believe we'll instantly bounce back (and I don't think we will either) so no point in wasting another year here.

If it's about money though, make no mistake, throw at him whatever you can, we're already wasting shitloads of money on trash so throwing anything at one of the very few if not only player who performed consistently is just worth it and justified.
I doubt he would go to PSG. I rate Areola to be currently the best French keeper, even better than Lloris. I can't see PSG sacrificing him for DDG. But Juve is a good shout because Szczesny is not a top keeper.

I sincerely hope we sign him up soon or we will be in the same jam as Spurs will be with Eriksen and Chelsea will be with Hazard nxt summer. All three players probably with a transfer value around 100m EUROs (or more) if they were under contract for a longer duration of time.
Why wont they just see out their contracts and pocket this abstract transfer value for themselves?
The transfer market has inflated itself so much the last couple of years without this having the same kickback effect on players wages. So far at least.
Its just a question of time until the market regulates itself in this regard though.
To ensure any of these players contractual commitment nxt summer will be ridicilously expensive even if we - in the case of De Gea - sit on his contract for nxt year. In terms of wages, sign on fee or whatever you might want to call it. These players will command wages that we have not seen before in their next contracts.
We saw it with Sanchez in a way, but nxt summer will be even "worse" in this regard.
I am not sure that even clubs like PSG and Barca realized that their actions on the transfer market (Neymar, Dembele) will sooner or later have effects on their own wage bills because of the simple market regulation that we are starting to see now and will do even more nxt summer. Barca especially are already fecked on their wage bill.
Or they most likely did but took an extremely shortsighted view on it.
You reap what you sow I suppose.
United is probably one of the clubs that strangely enough might come out of this on top due to our revenue and being able to carry a large wage bill.
Interesting times ahead.

Its sad to see the state of our club being this bad. Not signing a contract where you would be the highest paid keeper in the world due to lack of competiveness really bothers me .

The sad thing about it is that I fully agree with him, he has given his everything for us and deserves better.

This feels like the kind of signing Juventus would be all over.

Yeah those rats keep getting good, even great players for free.

A WUM most likely.

I do think he's got love for the club but in the same time like every player, especially great one, he wants to win trophies.

Even he himself isn't dumb and can see that under Mourinho and defensive style of football it's not going to happen.

I too think he'll sign but won't happen before the end of the season, after he can make sure of the direction the club will take with the next manager.

I don’t know about the rest, but it’s common knowledge that de Gea’s personal GK coach (Alvarez) at United is his mentor from his time at Atletico. As far as I know, United brought him in exclusively to work with de Gea.

They did. He isn't Jose's own goalkeeping coach.

That I know but that guy is claiming DDG's a big fan of Mourinho if I got it right.

Never seen proof of that. Think DDG's loyalty has been to the club, not Jose.

Same, that's why I'm asking that guy.

I believe DDG has got love for the club, he never made any fuss when Madrid move failed, especially knowing he could have won 3 CL if that deal went through.

The sheer fact majority of us wouldn't hold it against him if he wanted to leave is telling how great of a servant he's been to this club.

PS: i quite selfishly want him to stay and win everything with us!

I want him to stay. If he leaves it could be us on a slippery slope. Maybe he wants reassurances on who the manager will be and if we are going to show a bit more ambition.

I think he’s a family member of Mourinho  There are some posters who are die hard fans of Mourinho, but I can at least understand where they’re coming from.

This guy goes into every thread and talks about how the club will never get anything better than Mourinho, how without him we will be much worse etc.
