This has been coming for months. How did you all not see this coming?

Give him what he wanted last May and it would have been sorted.

I'd actually advise De Gea to leave at this stage. He's too good for our board.

If you were him, you definitely wouldnt understand why the likes of Valencia, Young, Smalling could still be ahead of you in the pecking order. That makes you wonder all the time how much the club really evaluates your value, then of course, you have a rightful reason to not fully commit.

De Gea had been nurtured by the legend SAF, has been at the club long enough to overcome the likes of Pogba, is and will be amongst our best players for this and maybe the next decade. Unlike the forever shy Valencia, De Gea is trying and recently starts speaking English in interviews more regularly.

I still dont know why it's so hard and takes too much time for the club to recognize the truth that De Gea needs to be given what he always deserves

I very much doubt that's near his issues with the club currently.

Have I missed something? Did he say he wanted to be our captain or anything like that?
 
No player who has any ambitions about winning anything would commit to this club, we are shambles and years away from winning important trophies. Massive credit goes to Ed, what a brilliant job he has done. Not only that he is clueless in choosing managers, he doesn't even know when to sack them.
 
It has been said many times by many people, you really can't blame him.

He is the best goalkeeper in the world. At the peak of his powers and is currently playing for a team that will be lucky to finish in the top 5.

He deserves to be playing at the very top. The current United can't offer that and the way things are going, it will be a good while before they can.
 
Maybe Ed used his expert football knowledge in deducing that David isn't worth the money?
Thank God we have Ed, vetoing transfer and fecking up the contracts of the players we do have.
 
If you go back in this thread, he was waiting in March for a contract extension according to Castles. I said that our contract renewal policy is a joke, i still stand by it. The club is a shambles everything sporting related.
 
Part of the reason we need a good footballing structure for continuity, because we are chopping and changing, failing, every few years, it's a constant cycle of shit, no players are going to want to give their best years to us, surprised Dave has stayed as long as he has, would not begrudge him one bit he's far better than this team.

Wouldn't blame him in the slightest and would wish him the very best.
 
Not that I believe the press, but I'd be surprised if De Gea wanted to commit. Yes he's been here a long time, is loved etc, but he's performed better than the club have for about 5 years now, and there is no sign of that changing. If I wanted to win the biggest trophies, I'd be hesitant about resigning and I'm a life-long fan.
 
All the top clubs tie down their best players to longer contracts and additional pay rise. We were quick to prolong Jose's contract for no reason, while letting our players' contracts run down at every opportunity. We are not talking about anyone here, but out best and most consistent player the last 5 years. Now we are in a shit position again, instead of giving him a contract he couldnt refuse last year. Without success, he would of course leave at some point, but tie him down as long as possible and give the club more years to build something. But i guess it doesnt matter, United will be shit in the near future too with incompetent cnuts leading the club.
 
It doesn't sound like it's a money issue so not sure why people are upset with Woodward for this, unless it's indirect blame for us not being very good.

He would have signed it in the summer if we'd put it on the table and supported him after his bad WC.

He's also a big fan of Mourinho and his current GK coach.

If someone else came in, he'd have to think twice.

The Anti-Jose and Pro-Woodward fans looking like clowns yet again.

My explanation was in the second paragraph. Telegraph is not the source that i rate highly. I think sometimes newspapers invent there own stories to make people buy their explanations for the current problems.

The problem is why we always find it hard when coming to negotiate De Gea contract extension. I dont think Telegraph had a right answer. I think the core of De Gea problem is captiancy unfairness, hence my explanation
 
Can't blame him, he's stayed way longer than I expected him to if I'm honest. Although we've clearly not done well sorting out his contract sooner, we've had plenty of time and opportunity to do so.

PSG or Juve probably. Sczesny and Perin are not top class, while Buffon is of course almost done and Areola not top class either. Unless one of the two buy Oblak, he could go to Atletico as his replacement. He wont move to Barca or Real with their first choice options being class, Bayern have Neuer and we wont sell to an English club (they all have class GKs too).

Can't see Juve being able to buy him though, they'd more likely wait out his contract. But can't see that happening either.
 
Is Ducker reliable?

I reckon he will leave regardless along with Pogba and Martial.
 
Maybe we'll be forced to give him a stupid contract - like 350k a week. Can't blame him though. He's been the best player at the club for 5 years now.

They'll be able to get him for a knock-down price next summer, or wait until January, when they can start negotiating his free transfer.
 
I'm all for giving him the money needed to get it done. My only worry there is setting more precedents for big players coming in. We need him though.
 
De Gea is clearly unhappy with reports that Mourinho is soon to be fired. Dave is clearly one of Joses favourite players and De Gea enjoys how busy he is under Mourinho.

This is what’s pissing me off about United right now!!!

Everything that happened prior to Saturday just beats the United fans down, we get a glimmer of light with the come back, yet it can’t even last two full days before more uncertainty comes along.

All due to Woodward and co. not having a clue about the direction of the club and getting the right players tied down on appropriate money.

Yeah, I’d say PSG or Real myself. He’s on massive wages so that would rule Juventus out especially while Ronaldo is there. He’s probably not suited to Barcelona and Bayern have Neuer.

De Gea gets loads of money. PSG get a high profile keeper.

Juventus
Another team which could go up and win big stuff. Juve could have him at low price next year or free in 2020.
He 'll get lesser money, but if Juventus have competitive negotiators (unlike ours), they could convince him

Pretty much this. And now we're talking about rebuilding one more time, with no reason to think we'll get it right this time either.

(he probably was really looking forward to that senior defender that we couldn't afford)
