De Gea contract talk | Signs new deal

Whether people like it or not, we are the new Arsenal. All that is left is us losing our talented players because we can't get our head out of our arses.

Where could be possibly go? PSG?

PSG, Juve, much can happen within a year or two too.

Not surprised one bit if he wants to move on no matter who's the next coach, he's been here for far too long if he wants to win things really, he's seen it all, no reason to believe we'll instantly bounce back (and I don't think we will either) so no point in wasting another year here.

If it's about money though, make no mistake, throw at him whatever you can, we're already wasting shitloads of money on trash so throwing anything at one of the very few if not only player who performed consistently is just worth it and justified.

State of our club despite spending so much of money. Ed should go if he cannot have DDG commit.

I could see Juve or Bayern going for him.

I don't think he's looked that good over the last couple of seasons, there's a drop off IMO, and Bayern are ruthless,
 What a load of nonsense. Neuer was injured for a long time, cos 2 times broke his ankle in short time and to say his performances have dropped off is totally laughable. He is still a class above the rest and the chances for Bayern to replace him are ZERO..not a snowball in hell chance for that to happen.

Always a pleasure Jingois......I mean Nostradamus. ;)

Is Ducker reliable?

I reckon he will leave regardless along with Pogba and Martial.
This is exactly what is going to happen. And talented replacements will be severely difficult to find. I hate to drag Mourinho into the thread but I do think it's related.

He would have signed it in the summer if we'd put it on the table and supported him after his bad WC.

He's also a big fan of Mourinho and his current GK coach.

If someone else came in, he'd have to think twice.

The Anti-Jose and Pro-Woodward fans looking like clowns yet again.
Based on what and how do you know he wasn't offered one. Genuinely curious as I haven't read any of that in the press.

Like 99.9999% of what's written in the press these days I'm going to assume it's bollocks and Dave is signing a new deal. Not sure why he would though. We are a mess but I think Dave is a rare breed and is very loyal.

PSG would probably be interested, not sure if they feel a top GK is a priority though.

I don’t see Juve matching what we are already paying him, especially right after Ronaldo’s deal.

Think he will stay . He is not a type of player who rocks the boat. If he wants to leave, he will probably sign and get the move with a release clause.

De Gea is a big name and that seems to be the only thing that matters for PSG.

This sort of thing is part of the bigger picture that people who want Mourinho stay don't seem to grasp. Our best players will want out. No good players will want to play our shit brand of football and compete for the domestic cups and the Europa league. We're on a downward trajectory and narrowly beating Newcastle at home isn't about to make De Gea and Pogba desperate to spend their best years with us.

1)De Gea has nothing to do with the brand of football we play, boring or attacking. He doesn't participate in it.
2)Nothing prove the next manager will make him compete for the titles with us. If we finish in Europe League next season, there's a big chance the next manager will need anohter rebuild for 2 years or so before we can win the title. Any player will have the right to get bored by now. Several players in the squad are approaching their contract end while others are declining. Some players brought by Mourinho won't appeal to next managee aka Lukaku. The next manager wil most probably not manage to provide title challenge from the get go.

Yeah agree. Long-term Mourinho has no future at United. The football is just too shite.

I would not hold anything against De Gea if he left. He has given us everything whilst he's been with us and has shown us more loyalty and commitment than any of our other players, and has not let his head drop. He has delivered for us game after game, and has very little to show for it. He deserves to be competing for the biggest trophies on the elite stage.

We haven't tried that. Anyways the priority is to sort out the defense, with or without De Gea.

He does several mistakes in the few games he plays but they mostly go under the radar as he does some good saves in them and besides, the games he plays usually come far away from each other.

If he plays regularly week in week out most of these mistakes will start to become obvious and exposed imo. That's why he's a very good second GK.

True. A better defence means our dependency on GKs can be less means we can bring a new GK and still be a good team. Just hope we don't take money but players if we are indeed selling him.

Which is where I said we need better defending. I am not looking at Romero as a long term replacement. But I think he is good enough to do a decent job and pull saves when called for, if there is no relentless pressure on the GK.

Don't disagree on the good defending part.

True it's shame people can't see this

Relax guys, even if he leaves we still have Big Serge and Lee Grant.:wenger:
De Gea is only one of a bunch of players we might lose if we're not smart enough to axe Mourinho asap.

Romero is an excellent keeper, but he's not DeStaya.

Can’t blame him really, it’s been coming and he’s stuck with us when he could’ve been winning league and Champions League titles. Put yourself in his position and ask yourself honestly.. does it look like we are we going to be challenging for top honours soon. Answer is no.

This may actually force us to get serious and sort our midfield and defence out. A great keeper is the icing on the cake but as we’ve seen even great keepers aren’t superman and when the defensive unit is bad, goals will be conceded. We’d have better team with a very good keeper with a solid, consistent back line that’s protected by a competent midfield. As we’ve seen for years now having arguably the best keeper in the world with inconsistency and incompetence in front of him ain’t doing us much good

One significant difference is that we can still pay top top wages to our players, more than 99 percent of clubs in Europe.Arsenal were underachieving on the field and they didn’t have the money to keep their best players...We are stagnating on the field but we can still afford to offer De Gea a 300,000 per week contract.Even Real Madrid/Barca wouldn’t be willing to pay those wages for a GK....

I'm sure he recently said how much he loves it here, etc. I would assume his biggest worry is the same as the rest of us - we won't challenge for anything and our style is garbage.

His biggest worry should also be that he won’t find another big club in Spain and England if he were to leave now.Where could he possibly go?Athletico Madrid can’t afford to pay him over 250,000 per week.... Madrid have Courtouis....He doesn’t really suit Barcas style of play....Liverpool and Chelsea spent millions to sign new Goalkeepers.David doesn’t really have too many options other than to stay at United...

Yep I agree. I think we hold the cards in this one, if he wants to go I can’t imagine another team will pay him the same amount of wages as we do. Or if it’s for another reason he’d want to leave then ok we’ve had some amazing years with David & I’d wish him well but I think he’ll stay for a few more years before heading back to Spain at somepoint.

If he doesn’t want to sign an extension it may be worth just letting him run his contact down with us than selling him for not much. He’s more valuable to us staying if that’s the case

worst thing is if he left I have zero confidence in our ability to replace him with similar talent

another incentive to sort out the club asap

take Pogba and De Gea out and you are looking at all kinds of ordinary

Romero may not be De Gea, but he is pretty darn good.
true but pretty darn good is not in the same league as incredible

we've struggled to win anything significant without an elite goalkeeper (Pete, Edwin and David)

We are struggling to get even close with an elite one right now.

Far too long under performing as a club and this is what happens. Over half a decade since we've even been remotely in a title race and just another club in and out of the CL.

He's not a boyhood fan. He's not English. I don't blame him. I'd of lost patience if I was in his shoes.

We were lucky that the paperwork collapsed or he would have been of to Madrid years ago and we would be here with Navas. It seems however this time around we won't be as lucky. He is going to be massively missed if he does end up leaving but I don't blame him for abandoning a sinking ship.
