De Gea contract talk | Signs new deal

I'd say winning trophies is going to be more important to him than any assurances over the manager. We are still a distance away from winning a title or the Champions League. We might win a couple more domestic cups now and then, but I don't see a title under Jose, nor will a new manager come in and immediately turn us into champions.

He's among the best in the world. He should have won more than one league title in his career by now, and he probably knows that.

I agree. I think we have done well, the way we have performed since Fergie to keep him this long. At present we are a run of the mill team playing nowhere near the 'biggest club in the world' tag that the club and some fans like to spout. No one could begrudge him leaving.

Paris or Juve would be the only possible and sense-making destinations.
Hope he stays but wouldn´t be mad one second. He has been extremely loyal through the last 5 years full of sh*t - he fully deserves to win trophies trophies trophies during the last part of his career.

Can you blame him? He's potentially one of the greatest keepers of his generation and he wants serious trophies to his name. If this club doesn't plan to compete for them he should think to go somewhere that will.

Apparently we've got 11 players out of contract next summer.

De Gea
Martial
Valencia
Herrera
Mata
Jones
Smalling
Shaw
Young
A. Pereira
Darmian

Lot of deadwood there, but still very worrying.

Most are with a + 1 year contract. However the situation is still alarming because unless we persuade them to sign a new contract then we'll have to sell them on cheap. United are nowhere near capable to replace all those players at one go.

Instead of wasting time persuading the Belgian beanpole to stay, we would have been better off showing some love to Martial, DDG, Smalling and A Periera.

Maybe. It would make zero sense for them to sign De Gea which is why they might do it. Areola should have been given the #1 spot years ago.

De Gea is miles above Areola. The french keeper is decent but far from being even top 20.

I completely agree. Areola is a good keeper and one of their own, it's classless the way they treat him which is why I believe they won't hesitate to chase DDG if they can

Real Problem is not about him leaving. Problem is getting a competent replacement (even if its not upto his level) and the money involved in it given that he is leaving on a free.

I'd be pretty annoyed if I was De Gea and I was playing with players of this quality every week.

There were a lot of rumours concerning Darmian and Rojo this summer and that we were trying to move them on for a decent price but looking at that list, there's a lot of them that i'd like to see leave even on a free. It will be very interesting to see where some of them go. As Jose said when he was asked about some of the players that have left Manchester United recently; 'Look where they are now'. Only De Gea and Martial in that list would move to a club of a similar stature. The rest are heading for a long trip down.

I was thinking the same. Any top club in with a shout of the Ch league is an upgrade he would consider. Could even go back to Atletico.

Atletico would be a push, they will struggle to win domestic trophies just like us. Juve or PSG and he's in with a serious shout of domestic titles and deep runs in Europe.

The only two likely now if he's leaving is Paris and Turin.

Source is soo reliable.
Doubt.

Confident he'll stay with us.
Juventus is not a likely destination at all right now

PSG idk. I suspect that's the whole reason why he hasn't signed a new deal: club knows he has no other options outside United. So no need to go with a crazy offer

The teams that can give him the thropies he want have really good keepers, maybe not DDG level but really good.

Madrid - Just signed Courtouis so that door is closed
Barca - Have Ter Stegen no need for De Gea
Bayern - Have Neuer no need for De Gea
City - I like to think we wouldn´t go there
Juve - Not big spender, especially for a GK
PSG - I think his only option

But I think is mainly about money, if United can match PSG offer Im very confident he will stay. We are very lucky that Madrid signed Courtouis or we would have lost him, and can´t blame him he has been world class for years and United are no where near to him level.

Just tie him down asap, give him the money he wants and the contract he wants, he deserves it. If not I won't blame him if he buggers off.

He's worth Pogba+Sanchez's wages combined and then some

No one mentioned Athletico? They've got the new stadium & it'd be like the prodigal son coming home. Reckon they will start being able to compete well financially given they're now consistently a CL club & if this weird US/La Liga thing does well.

I was pissed when he was about to leave but no one can begrudge him now. He's miles too good to be playing for this current United side.

I did

I couldn't blame De Gea if his feet are getting itchy. We'd like to think United are a step above most teams in the world but for a player from overseas who could walk into pretty much any team in the world and start challenging for major trophies there are quite a few better options than us at present.

He should go, deserves to be playing in a top team competing for titles.

I'm pretty certain De Gea nor the vast majority of pro players don't think like this at all.

Players do get frustrated if their teammates consistently fail to match their own level of performance. De Gea is a genuinely world class player. He should be winning things. Could you really blame him if he felt that this team didn't have much quality?

At this point he's going to make a mint if he stays here or goes elsewhere because he's proven himself to be that good of a keeper, so I think for him i will be all about competing and trophies now, and i'm sure he's frustrated with having to bail us out season after season for so long.
