De Gea contract talk | Signs new deal

"Mourinho has lost the support of much of his squad, but even if a new manager was installed at Old Trafford, it is likely De Gea would need to see a huge uplift in United’s competitiveness for his current thinking to change."

It states that as fact. I can think of Martial and Pogba. Players who performed on Saturday btw.

All I've seen from de Gea regarding Jose is positive. He's a winner, de Gea's a winner. It's not surprising that our only world class player wants to see more ambition from the club. But of course this will be construed as if he's unhappy with Jose..

I don't think the best caretake in the world will bring enough stability to make a run of wins and secure top 4. Caretakers and midsesson managers usually do well in the cups and CL, let's be honest.

If we end up in Europe League next season, whoever will manage us next season, pretty sure Pogba will push for a move and De Gea will be open to offers.
Maybe we wouldn't get top four but we might at least look like a team. A caretaker might actually boost the team morale, I still think we could end up keeping players like Pogba/Martial if we had a different manager who they actually got along with.

We won't be able to attract players of their ilk to replace them, I've no doubt about that. Last time when we were attracting the Pogba's and the Ibra's of the world there was hope, an exciting project with loads of young talent in the club. The next manager probably has to look at the possibility of no Pogba, no Martial and no De Gea also a lot of older players on high wages we'll struggle to move on.

Shouldn't be surprising. We're currently closer to West Ham in 15th than we are the top of the table. Not sure where he'd go though now Courtois has gone to Real - Juventus?
Yep, Juventus seems plausible. With Cristiano and João Cancelo already in Turin, and rumors of Neves being offered to them, Mendes is ideally placed to engineer a move for De Gea as well. Comfortably better than Szczęsny, and following in the footsteps of Buffon will definitely appeal to him. Of course, I really want him to stay at United, but at the same time you can't begrudge a move after all these years of heroics by De Gea in the face of sustained underperformance by United.

I'm not worried, unless Barca want him I feel he'd rather stay with us then go anywhere else

Imo, no chance Raiola will let his player play another season in Europe League while Barca are knocking on the door, while De Gea will start to rethink his ideas about staying if a top teams come with a serious effort after enduring all this shite for several years. Keepers with far less quality have more trophies than him, he must be thinking.

We'll be in a big trouble if we finish outside top 4.

We are very lucky that De Gea has stayed with us through the tough times despite us not winning as many trophies as he could have possibly done elsewhere. I think this shows the character of the man: Impeccable.

Very loyal servant to the club. A man who is truly worthy of wearing the United shirt. If he had not played out of skin season after season so consistently, we would be in a worse shape than we are at the moment. Give him whatever money he wants to sign, as he fully deserves it.

Oh boy...

Is it supposed to be a shock that the best keeper in the world doesn't want to spend his prime years celebrating an occasional win against Burnley or Newcastle and battling for 4th place?

Wonder what's happened, Mourinho basically announced that all parties had reached a conclusion

Imagine Madrid think Courtois is a flop and end up trying to sign DDG anyway...

We've been lucky to have him for 2/3 extra years anyway, amazed he lasted this long.

Will be gutted if he leaves but won't have any hard feelings (unless he goes to a rival).

I hope this is just a powerplay to get extra money.

Can't blame him. For the last 6 seasons, De Gea's level has been miles ahead of that of his club team. He should have won a lot more by this stage of his career.

This should have been sorted in the summer - Woodward was too slow to act as usual
How do you know the player wasnt waiting to see where we were headed? Turns out that destination turned out to be chaos.

This has Juventus meddling written all over. Oh well its about feckin time DDG returns to a top club

Well we have been signing former Chelsea staff over the last few years, it would follow that trend for Madrid to send Courtois over in exchange

Can't blame him. Where would he go though? All the top teams have a top goal keeper. PSG to replace Buffon?

Theres a possibility this club loses De Gea, Pogba and Martial within the next 12 months.

unless we change things around we will lose him and we cannot blame him, lets hope for the best..

My thinking as well. Could also be PSG IMO. All the top clubs around Europe are sorted in the GK department besides Juventus and PSG. Hard to see where else he would go besides one of these two.

They're thinking about firing Lopetegui because he's like four points of first place. It wouldn't be a surprise.

Suspect this was always the case. Woodward is to blame still but for the broader aspect of the club descending into chaos.

I dont believe any want to leave, the last 2 will most certainly stay if the manager goes (which he will sooner or later)

Where do we go from here? Most of the elite keepers have moved clubs within the last year and a half. There is Oblak but why would he want to switch stability for turmoil?

Pogba is contracted until 2022, so he’s not going unless Ed gets Neymar money for him. De Gea and Martial’s contract are both up in 2020, so I’m a bit more iffy about those two.

Oblak would be the one to go for, but, as you say, it might be difficult to persuade him (might have to dangle silly money in front of him to have any chance).

He’ll go if he wants to leave. We’ll settle for a little more than we paid for him just to get him gone. No point in forcing him to stay if he wants to leave so we’ll sanction it.

Unless he went to City or Liverpool, which seems very very unlikely, I don't think there would be any Utd fan out there begrudging him leaving.

He's the best keeper in the world who has had to play behind a shower of shit for most of his Utd career. We've done well to hold onto him for as long as we have.

It's all very depressing.

I'm looking for a job currently.

Isn't this how we do this anyway?

On a serious note: a swap deal for Oblak sounds about the best we could hope for if DDG wants to leave

Won't be a surprise if we end up depending on Romero and Grant.
