We are basically in Ronaldo territory again where we develop a very, very top bracket player, and they get a series of short but lucrative contracts with the idea of preserving value as opposed to securing their future until the inevitable happens and they go to Madrid. I'd take an extension and effectively another year from De Gea which will give us time to get our ducks in a row and also get a good fee.

A problem on the playing side of things is that if we go out and re-build our defence this summer, once they all settle next season, they will then have another goalkeeper playing behind them.

If he did decide to go then i won't too fussed, as long as we get in a top class keeper like Lloris and we then demand Real to include Bale in any potential deal.

Happy days.

This is how I feel, if he wants to go then he should just come out & say so, it's been dragging in for too long now & his form has definatly dipped recently?which is not exceptable from a £200 k p/w keeper.

Not even arsed about getting Bale in exchange, I just want players that want to be here.

That'd be £18m to £22m, which seems pretty low to me...

According to Wikipedia: The press reported that Kroos had cost between €25 million and €30 million.

Pretty much similar figures here. It's low, but unless Madrid get a transfer ban, I'd imagine we'd sell him for a very similar fee.

Sucks, that'd be an absolute steal for Real. :(

Wouldn't be surprised if De Gea signed a new deal and as a result we kept Falcao for another year as a favour to Mendes

This was my thinking a few weeks ago, i'm sure Mendes will try his utmost best to work out a deal for Falcao although i can't see this happening as his performance has been quite poor.

This!

This whole Falcao thing, I just don't get it.

What does Ge Gea care what happens to Falcao, it has nothing to do with him.
Obviously DDG couldn't care less about Falcao and I think the Mendes involvement in DDG's case is overstated, but still depending on Falcao's situation Mendes might advice DDG accordingly. In this case he wouldn't say to DDG: " Please extend with United so Falcao gets another season" but rather give him reasons why it would be best for DDG to extend (obviously without mentioning Falcao).
Now DDG and his family and gf will make the decision about his future but they will still listen to the agent they trust.

I'd rather he fecks off this summer if those are his intentions anyway. We're a big club. Im tired of us playing feeder club for Real. I dont even care about him signing a contract just to keep his value up as well. I want us to sign a goalie who's committed to us long term

A big club who might not be in the CL next season. He could be waiting to see what happens with that which is fair enough.

Feeder Club to Madrid?

Right now he has a choice between a club that's challenging for the top trophies each year and a club that is struggling to achieve top 4. That's how a foreigner will perceive the choice, I wouldn't blame him if he left.

Im not saying i'd blame him, im just saying that if he's already dead set on joining them then he might as well do it this summer. It doesn't have anything to do with being foreign. Rooney has considered leaving us more than once.

He deserves to be competing for the biggest trophies, and would be daft to miss out on that.
Hope he will at least stay for a while longer to see if we sort our act out. He's one of the names that will help attract other talent, aside from his obvious positives on the pitch.

You do know what a feeder club is right?
Yeah. My point was that there have been a total of six players who moved from United to Real, two of which were loans (and one of those was in the 80s). Only one full transfer has happened in the past 8 years. It's ridiculous that people say shit like that - we are not even close to being a feeder club for Real.

Ah ok. :)

Why do people have any interest in following contract negotiations? Surely the only thing people care about is whether he signs or not, and the minutiae of the contract and negotiations themselves are too boring to even think about? Just under half a million views on something that hasn't changed since the thread was started just seems bizarre to me.
Not gonna lie. I've wondered the same thing.
I understand being interested in genuine progress and significant updates, but not in twitter posts from random people, and random articles repeat the same pointless stuff. The day when something significant happens, we'll all know about it, because it'll be on the BBC or SSN.

I don't see the point in getting wound up or moved by twitter posts that are likely false, or weren't significant enough for anyone reliable to report.

if that rumour is true it would be a real expression of the influence of Mendez at United and possibly Madrid

That can't be true.

If it is, I'd rather we just sell De Gea.
Or employ a hit man to assassinate Mendes. Whichever is the least damaging to the club.

So is Mendes trying to strong-arm us into keeping Falcao by using the De Gea contract situation against us?? If so, I'd suggest the club tell all of them to shove off (yes including De Gea). Be seething if we complied with Mendes.

Don't believe it's as cut and dry as this, but if it is I'm with you.

Frankly if Jan Oblak was available I'd definitely get rid of De Gea. If you look hard enough, there is always a replacement out there. At the point now that I don't care if De Gea goes - getting tired of this drawn out saga. If the player doesn't want to play for the shirt, then he's no use to us - don't care how good he is.

Between having to keep Falcao and having to find a new keeper, I'd vote for finding a new keeper to be honest.
