I think it does make sense...from both sides. We have have an extra season to find an adequate replacement if he does leave and he can make up his mind if he wants to stay after seeing where we are with investments and how we stand comparable to the likes of the best in Europe.

2 years extension year contract would make no sense from United's point of view, unless there's a clear indication (or even a clause) that it'll be extended if we improve. It basically says "I want to move to Madrid, but I expect them to have a transfer ban next summer so I need a club for another year. You're lucky enough to keep me until 2017 at which point I'll leave on a free. Adios!".

It'd be treating the player like he's bigger than the club IMO - either he signs a proper extension so we can at least get some decent money for him if he really wants to move (as Ronaldo did) or he can just leave. Trying to keep him around until the very last second possible would be a desperate move.

If, and it's a very big if, the 2 year deal is true, then just feck him off this summer

A 2 year extension puts him under contract here for 3 more years. Not as bad as it sounds. I'd rather a 3 year extension (or 15 years, whatever) but 2 years puts us in a stronger negotiation position when we inevitably get to that point.

No it doesn't, you misread the article, it's a 2 year deal up to 2017. He is contracted until 2016 at the moment so essentially, it's a 1 year extension

I'm inclined to agree. Two years would confirm what we all suspect but don't want to believe. In which case, just sell him.

For me sounds like " With a year left We can not lead the conversations with Madrid since they will always have an advantage,so renew one more year, allow us to get more money for you showing gratitude to the club"

Ok thanks, good to know, actually I read it in "mundodeportivo" that was naming Express, is the sun trustable?

Not really. There are only a handful of journalists that can really be trusted with United related news, usually because they get briefed by CEO or get leaks from within the club. However, its not easy to name these journalists as some who seem reliable under one manager (Ogden when we had Moyes, for example) don't seem to be so reliable under another. James Ducker (Times) and Ian Ladyman (Daily Mail) tend to be the more reliable ones.

But if Real ends up getting a transfer ban the extension is completely pointless from United's point of view. If Real wants him now, they have to move regardless of the length of his contract and the standard "he'll cost less because he's in his last year" won't really apply, which United's team would surely be aware of.

Didn't Real release a statement saying that the talk of a transfer ban was bullshit?

I honestly haven't read anything about it apart from when the news broke and people were fairly certain it was going to stick, considering what happened to Barca. If there won't be a transfer ban, that does change the situation somewhat.

The Sun. Discussion should end there really.

You've got more chance of doing an entire weeks shopping at the self service check-out and not once getting the "unattended item in bagging area" message than that being true.

In january Madrid did an statement explaining the transfer of 51 kids but probably they suspect something.I read that in Atlético case the evidences are flagrant(chinese kids). There were rumours that Madrid was involved in Barça transfer ban so I wouldn´t be surprised if Barça is doing the same now, in any case Madrid will over pay as usual

If he signs an extension then it means we can demand a higher price from Madrid for him this summer. I dont think Madrid will wait until 2017 to replace their GK, so the notion that he will extend for a year (until 2017) and then leave on a free I dont think is really viable.

I actually don't think De Gea is as good as people rate him here. He's decent, but he has a long way to go before he can become world class. If we are able to get a good swap deal with Madrid, we should take it.

:wenger: a long way? Really? What are his deficiencies then?

That news excited me before I realised it was The Sun. Hopefully it is still true though.

Hmmm....So a player wants to leave and he's overrated by people....

When did RAWK change their URL?

I just got Marca on paper. They write about De Gea, more or less says this: "De Gea has no response or decision on his future. In the table an offer of renewal and an interest of Madrid, officially since last week in several conversations between Jorge Mendes, Jose Ángel Sánchez (Madrid executive director) and Florentino. The keeper waits for the right time to opt for one or the other proposal. Nothing does the presence of Casillas. The offer from Manchester is for five years. If the answer is negative, the player has already been priced in 40 million euros, seems excessive but the 31 million paid by Danilo(in his last year too) will condition other negotiations". On the other hand they say that Iker has no intention of leaving when the season ends, he only will do it if the club demands him

If we make top 4, he will stay. He will then leave in a couple of years unless we become world beaters again.

If we dont make top 4 hes gone.

Sorry I skipped most of the comments here.. at this stage I think sell the fecker. If he doesnt want to commit to us then on you go. We want players who want to play for us.

De Gea won't go as long as Iker is there...

Two women I'm mates with from Madrid both said Iker and De Gea hate each other....Articles from Spain have said the same thing. De Gea won't go there while he's there

Id rather see us just offload the cnut if this is going to be the shite we have to put up with. Hes either with us or against us. If he doesnt see his long term future at the club I dont see why United should waste any more time, energy or resources training him.

2 years makes sense to me. He was probably reluctant to sign in the first place because we are shit. 2 years gives us time to sort our shit out. He will probably leave eventually anyway.

Bench the cnut for a year and give Valdes his chance. See how much Real want him then!

I presume when they say "2 year deal" they actually mean "2 year extension" which would actually give us 3 more years?

"decent"? I agree with you in that I think he is a little over rated by us and the media (unbelieveable thinking back to how he was first treated) but he's much better than "decent".

Personally, I reckon he's off to the Madrid axis of evil.

We should offer him a 1 year extension, and just before he signs it change the 1 to a 10. Surprise motherfecker.
