I would hope that he performs terribly at Madrid and he ends up on Real Madrids bench with Casillas returning to peak form. After spending a few years on the bench he will join a second rate CL club and when he faces United I would hope our attackers completely humiliate him and put 5/6 goals past him.

He's a quality goal keeper so I doubt that will happen, but I really can't wish him well. I remember when he was getting destroyed by everyone due to his subpar performances and the club stood by him through it all when a lot of clubs would have just replaced him all together.

If he signs a new contract and we get a world record keeper fee for him then all the best, but if he runs down his contract and does some judas stuff then feck him.

I don't share as strong feelings as you, but I'm bloody close. I think De Gea owes us at least another season or two. Fecking off now when we're possibly building up to a title challenge and need him most doesn't sit well with me.

I think some of us have been scarred by the Ronaldo incident. Yes Real has a big pull on Spanish, and Spanish speaking players, and for some reason Ronaldo. It's just one of those things. But I seriously don't feel that same kind of "Real Madrid love-in" that we saw with Ronnie. If anything, I feel it'll be a football decision. I have no clue how his relationship with his girlfriend is going, though i'd imagine that may come up as a (not so major) factor.

My feeling is, if we make the CL, he'll sign and stay for at least a few more years.

If he leaves it'll be the best piece of summer transfer business for every other club in the league.

He needs to come out and make a decision. Rooney and Rio got all kinds of stick when they did this.

If he said I want to join Madrid but will do everything I can to get Utd back into the Champs League I will accept that. If he just keeps quiet and then fecks off in the summer then feck him.

I can't understand why this has dragged on so long, which gives me the impression he has gone.

Either way, I think we should start looking out for a GK whether or not he stays. What are our scouts doing? If he hasn't signed a contract now, it's very obvious why.

How do you know they're not? It's not like the club is going to come out and say if they are. Hardly the best way to convince him to stay either by coming out and admitting we're looking to replace him!

Losing him would be shit. £30M or £40m isn't going to make an iota of difference. He is the one of the two or three genuine world class players that we have, we should do everything to make sure that he signs a new contract.

If Woodward wants us to be the top club in the world then he can't let the De Gea walk to Real Madird. Instead we should fecking low ball them for Bale.

I'd imagine the club are trying to keep him, it's obviously down to the player and not the club. He's been our best player for 2 seasons now and the club know it. I'd be very surprised if they're happy with what's happening. The reality is if he wants to leave he'll go regardless of what the club do.

He'll go back to Spain one day I'd imagine, I would of liked to of hoped he would sign a new contract and stay for a few more years but it looks increasingly unlikely now.

If he's already made up his mind about leaving, he should at least renew his contract so we can get a good price for him. If not, I doubt we'd get more than £15m for him given that a) last year of contract and b) GKs don't go for much money compared to outfield players.

As for 'throw more money at him', it won't work if he's moving for personal reasons. I'm sure that if he leaves, the club would have done everything they could to keep him.

Surely this will happen this summer then? I don't think Madrid will squeeze anything more from Casillas.

What’s the alternative, signing an extension and then joining them next year?

It's all a bit depressing and inevitable.

I have absolutely no idea who's the best bet to replace him. Cech would be a great stop-gap. Who's the best up and coming keeper out there? Part of me would really like to see Sam Johnston get a crack. He's been doing well on loan, hasn't he?

Announce he wanta to leavw before the season ends? That doesn't sound like a good idea for anyone at all.

I don't see why not myself, let's be honest he has already decided if he wants to stay or go so it doesn't make that much of a difference. If he gave his reasons then at least the fans could give him a send off, I think dragging it out to the summer and then sneaky off just leaves a bad taste, especially after the faith that we have shown in him.

I finally voted in this thread, and my answer is Yes, he'll stay. The reason is that I think he wouldn't want to stay out of the CL for a second season, with his biggest "opponents" Neuer and Courtois both in the competition. And now I'm certain we'll get CL football next season.

Don't forget to quote and thank me if he signs a new contract.

Yeah I think he will be gone in the summer (I've answered "no" in the poll) but I was trying to give a best case scenario, i.e. he decides to stay for 2-3 more years before going back.

That would be the alternative, stay here for a season (or 2/3) and go in a couple years time. He is still a young keeper so it's not like if he refused to join this summer then the ship for Madrid has sailed for him completely unlike if he was a few years older. Encouragingly for whoever does have him for the next few years you would have to assume he'll either improve or at the very least stay at the same high level he is already performing at.

The only 2 ways I can see him staying are because he is well liked at United by the club and fans and therefore the pressure won't be as high as it is at Madrid if he makes a mistake, a club who will turn on players very quickly and also it depends on Madrid's other signings, whilst I can't see them signing a keeper other then de Gea it depends what their key priorities are.

It'll be a shame to see him go but not a surprise really. You can't blame the guy either if he does, it's a job to him and he's relocated to do it, if he wants to go back home for his missus or whatever then fair enough. It's not like his career will be going down hill by doing it...if anything it will be an improvement for him.

We have to ask Real for Navas in return.

Real will be in CL too.

IMO it depends on Casillas. If he stays for another year or two then I believe De Gea will be happy to stay with us. However, if Real tells David “we’re looking for a new GK this summer” then I don’t see him staying.
Secondary, Madrid are aware that if he stays he will sign a new contract so they will be forced to pay more next season.
Also, Madrid need a new toy every year, I have a feeling De Gea is number one for them.

We have to ask Real for Navas in return.

Why? I don't think he's great.

If they want De Gea, surely we can come up with a better player from them in return. Like Isco, Varane or Bale. All been linked with a move away.

I don't think many clubs at all would replace a 20-21 keeper that they paid 20m for just because he'd made a few mistakes. Even when he was going through the bad patch his potential was still there for all to see anyway.

We should really focus on Lloris. Just offer something ridiculous that even Levy couldn't turn down; something like 10m more than what we get for De Gea. He's the closest to Dave we could get.

I'd kill myself if we got Lloris for more than we got for De Gea.

DDG really should make a decision soon. Whether he leaves or stays, we will move on and find a good solution. I'm confident that LVG will find an excellent replacement, be it Valdes who's fully fit or another player

Who cares what he costs as long as he does well? He has four years left on his contract and is playing for a club with no reason to sell. There's more than just ability that decides a player's price.

Lets be realistic, we wont get any of the Madrid players in return.

This. One season of his contract to run. They'd rather get one more season from their current keeper, keep Bale and Isco and co, and add De Gea for free the following summer. People on here are dreaming with there muppet swap suggestions.

Yeah and thats why I hope he'll sign a new contract even if he decided to go so we can cash on him.

If DDG really did leave for Madrid it would probably push Woodward over the edge. He would Mortgage the whole of Old Trafford in a bid to entice Ronaldo and Bale back over sea's

All jokes apart though we really do need to keep him. Right now we have all the momentum and confidence is on the up. IF we end up selling our best player at that moment it would put a massive damper on everything. Really don't think Dave will want too leave though, he seems happy here he just wants to be paid well and be in a competitive team.

Again this confuses me. I don't see how people say it seems like he doesn't want to leave, it's the complete opposite if anything.

He's one of the clubs best players, there's no logic in them not wanting him to stay or sign a new contract, this is 100% de Gea's decision. The "seems happy" stuff is always a bit odd as well. Maybe he is perfectly happy but would be happier moving back home? I doubt he's really depressed about his situation, he has no reason to be really but it's not like there's only 2 emotions he can have with happy or sad...maybe he doesn't dislike Manchester but prefers Madrid? I'd find it a bit strange if whenever he was seen he was in floods of tears because he was stuck in Manchester.

No, it's as speculative on people saying they thing he will leave in the summer, no one knows for sure.

Still a bit to go before CL is secured. No surprises he hasn't signed yet, or said he wants to go until that happens. There's no point risking signing with us until CL is secured and If we imploded and didn't get CL it would make it much more easier for him to say why he wanted to go.

Yeah and thats why I hope he'll sign a new contract even if he decided to go so we can cash on him.

Why would a player do that and financially speaking completely screw up the fantastic package which you would otherwise have got?

I'm still clinging on to his Athletico roots keeping him away from Real. But I really am starting to feel that he's off. If he wasn't, he would have come out and said something. It's all dragged in too long and it just seems inevitable. And we aren't going to get anywhere close to his value considering his contract situation. We are probably going to have to pay more for a replacement than we get for Dave! God this is depressing.
