Why would we keep a player if he doesn't want to be here. What happens if DDG refuses to sign a contract without the mentioned release clause? Do we sell him in the summer or let him leave on free next summer?

He did? I wasn't aware of that.Van Nistelrooy had one at £35 million, I recall.
Years ago it would have been unheard off in the English game, now players hold most of the power and it’s beneficial for any player to have a get out clause in their contract.Really? German and Spanish clubs have had release clause's in contracts for years now. They generally tend be some stupidly high figure they know no team will ever meet so they are largely irrelevant. The only example of a release clause in England I can think of is Suarez at Liverpool.
I thought in England you cant have release clauses or am I mistaken? In any case 30m is a joke for one of the best keepers in the world.

Eh, where have I said that?Except the fact of the matter is that Suarez is the only player in the English game (at least that we know of) that had a release clause in his contract. It is still virtually unheard of. You'd swear most players had a release clause in their contract judging by your post.
Depends on him really. If he feels that strong about his ties to Atletico, he'll never go to Real Madrid. But throw enough money at any man and he might change his mind.Surely being Atleti born and bred means something?
And glory. Real Madrid are one of, if not, the best sides in the world. They'll likely remain at the top for the foreseeable future. If I was in his position, I would be on my way to Madrid in the summer - and that's talking from a United fan's perspective.Depends on him really. If it did, I predict this possible move would have been put on ice a long time ago. He'd have told Mendes to tell Real to do one. I think that it has gotten this far, that he's not re-signed with us, and the Real speculation is persistent, is quite telling that he'd certainly be open to Real Madrid.
I'm just speculating myself though. For all we know, he could know nothing about Madrid's interest. Maybe there isn't even any concrete interest from Madrid and it's not even an option that's being posed to him. The only official word from Madrid so far was when they said they weren't even interested in him.
To be honest, I think the way Atleti fans were very hostile to him when he left to join us has probably now put him in a position where he wouldn't feel as fussed to go to Real.
Either way, Mendes will be aware of the interest and I'm sure in turn that De Gea will do to because of that.
I didn't know Atletico fans were hostile towards him. I thought he'd left on good terms. Didn't he write a letter to the fans as he left?

I absolutely love DDG and what he's done for us this season has been phenomenal but if he's waiting too see if we get CL or not then he can go either way. Any player who doesn't want to be here 100% can feck off.
Still can't believe we did that. What the hell were we thinking?Fellaini had one too, remember. We waited until it expired and paid more for him, because we are rich as feck.

We really have been a joke on and off the pitch since SAF's retirement!Fellaini had one too, remember. We waited until it expired and paid more for him, because we are rich as feck.

I wouldn't blame him at all. He deserves CL football so I wouldn't be angry at him if he left. I just hope he remembers how we stuck by him and feels like repaying the faith.Without him we would be mid table at best. You can hardly blame him if he gets tired of propping up all our £300k a week players.

I'd also do the same but if he wants the release clause I'd then want it too be £50mill or upwards.I'd give him £300k/week no one else will match that for a keeper. If Rooney and Falcao are worth it DDG definitely is.

In that case we'll probably have to get rid of everyone because I don't imagine many of our good players will be happy to stick around if we're consistently mid-table. Those who can get a move to a CL side and play there will want out sooner or later.I absolutely love DDG and what he's done for us this season has been phenomenal but if he's waiting too see if we get CL or not then he can go either way. to this:
Most likely nonsense but it made me think of the end one of the games recently where LVG was near the tunnel patting a few players on the back and it looked like he didn't approach DDG or that he sort of walked past. At the time I just assumed he'd already congratulated him before the camera picked them up and I'm guessing that was the case, but I suppose it could be indicative of an issue.
