Really? German and Spanish clubs have had release clause's in contracts for years now. They generally tend be some stupidly high figure they know no team will ever meet so they are largely irrelevant. The only example of a release clause in England I can think of is Suarez at Liverpool.
Years ago it would have been unheard off in the English game, now players hold most of the power and it’s beneficial for any player to have a get out clause in their contract.

I thought in England you cant have release clauses or am I mistaken? In any case 30m is a joke for one of the best keepers in the world.

You can have them here, but teams choose not to as a rule. In Spain it is compulsory that all players have a release clause, that's why you see Messi's at like 1billion etc.

My gut feeling is that he is going, again I have no evidence to back that up as I don't know what is happening behind closed doors but it just seems like the writing is on the wall, much like Ronaldo and when Pogba was going. Not getting top 4 may give him his reason to go in all honesty.

Except the fact of the matter is that Suarez is the only player in the English game (at least that we know of) that had a release clause in his contract. It is still virtually unheard of. You'd swear most players had a release clause in their contract judging by your post.

I think its becoming ever more apparant he's waiting to see if we get champions league football before signing a new deal. Why would he sign a new deal, effectively ending a potential move to a champions league club like real, if he's just gonna play league football and not at the highest stage like his ability and now reputation deserve?

Eh, where have I said that?
At the moment de Gea holds all the cards, he knows he could walk into most teams therefore if United don't agree to a release clause you'd be sure that any other team would to gain his signature. It's the way things are heading for all Clubs in all leagues, it's only a matter of time.
There were also rumours that Sterling wanted a release clause in his new contract, truth is we have no idea how many players have one.

Depends on him really. If he feels that strong about his ties to Atletico, he'll never go to Real Madrid. But throw enough money at any man and he might change his mind.
And glory. Real Madrid are one of, if not, the best sides in the world. They'll likely remain at the top for the foreseeable future. If I was in his position, I would be on my way to Madrid in the summer - and that's talking from a United fan's perspective.

Plenty of players have had them. Pepe Reina had one I think, pretty sure Demba Ba had one too, Bony, Joe Allen and Fellaini definitely had one. And those are just a few publicised ones off the top of my head, I'm sure there are more.

Surely being Atleti born and bred means something?

If it did, I predict this possible move would have been put on ice a long time ago. He'd have told Mendes to tell Real to do one. I think that it has gotten this far, that he's not re-signed with us, and the Real speculation is persistent, is quite telling that he'd certainly be open to Real Madrid.

I'm just speculating myself though. For all we know, he could know nothing about Madrid's interest. Maybe there isn't even any concrete interest from Madrid and it's not even an option that's being posed to him. The only official word from Madrid so far was when they said they weren't even interested in him.

To be honest, I think the way Atleti fans were very hostile to him when he left to join us has probably now put him in a position where he wouldn't feel as fussed to go to Real.

Either way, Mendes will be aware of the interest and I'm sure in turn that De Gea will do to because of that.

I didn't know Atletico fans were hostile towards him. I thought he'd left on good terms. Didn't he write a letter to the fans as he left?

Yeah but generally a lot of Atleti fans weren't happy with him. The ones I know which is quite a lot we're pretty livid aswell.

I absolutely love DDG and what he's done for us this season has been phenomenal but if he's waiting too see if we get CL or not then he can go either way. Any player who doesn't want to be here 100% can feck off.

Ba had one in his contract while at Newcastle. Chelsea met it the year before last.

Without him we would be mid table at best. You can hardly blame him if he gets tired of propping up all our £300k a week players.

We used Phil Jones' release clause to buy him from Blackburn.

I wouldn't blame him at all. He deserves CL football so I wouldn't be angry at him if he left. I just hope he remembers how we stuck by him and feels like repaying the faith.

I'd give him £300k/week no one else will match that for a keeper. If Rooney and Falcao are worth it DDG definitely is.

Fellaini had one too, remember. We waited until it expired and paid more for him, because we are rich as feck.

 That still makes absolutely zero sense to me.

In regards to DDG, if there is a release clause hopefully it is significant.

I bet that sort of attitude hasn't even crossed him mind. He will think of them as his team mates who are fighting for the same cause.

Most likely nonsense but it made me think of the end one of the games recently where LVG was near the tunnel patting a few players on the back and it looked like he didn't approach DDG or that he sort of walked past. At the time I just assumed he'd already congratulated him before the camera picked them up and I'm guessing that was the case, but I suppose it could be indicative of an issue.

In that case we'll probably have to get rid of everyone because I don't imagine many of our good players will be happy to stick around if we're consistently mid-table. Those who can get a move to a CL side and play there will want out sooner or later.

Yep, this would also explain why LVG refused to praise him in an interview a few weeks back.

I honestly don't care if we sign him or not, Navas is good enough to be our first goalkeeper. It seems a bit strange though that he's had such little gametime until now. Not sure what Florentino and Carlo's plans are there.

AS making things up I think.
