The author is one of the ones Mendes uses to place stories.
However there's nothing new in the article. It quotes the 30m clause thing from The Mirror and recycles a couple of rather indifferent sounding comments from LvG from press conferences. LvG has the habit of saying things like, he's there to stop the ball, he stopped it. Which whilst factually accurately aren't that warm and friendly either. The article then claims that's more or less the limit of their relationship in training etc as well.
It then talks about the other keepers Madrid are interested in. The first one sounds like a non-starter, Courtois. The second one is Casilla of Espanyol, who was in Madrid's academy. The third is a 19 year old playing for Tenerife. It doesn't say what Keylor Navas' place in the story is. I guess a lot of it comes down to when do they expect to replace Casillas.

AmenFellaini had one too, remember. We waited until it expired and paid more for him, because we are rich as feck.
Why should Courtois be any more a non-starter than De Gea?
Under contract until 2019.
There is an after game interview with LVG 3-4 games ago where he says(and I quote): "I don't like to praise players, but he has won us a lot of points with his saves"
Then I'd get rid of them all. I'd rather be mid-table with talented kids and solid players who want to be here than with under performing players on substantial wages. This would never happen though and we'll continue too spend big for some time I think. In that case we'll probably have to get rid of everyone because I don't imagine many of our good players will be happy to stick around if we're consistently mid-table. Those who can get a move to a CL side and play there will want out sooner or later.

Football just isn't the same these days.
Perhaps, but we could do with his talent for another few years. In order for this new team to build and be successful again, having one of the best keepers in the world behind the sticks won't do us any harm in that aspect. None of our current keepers have the quality to be number one, only Lloris comes to mind who might be available in the summer but I would imagine Levy would milk us dry.Well, we all know the stories about LVG falling out with players at previous clubs
On a side note, I couldn't give a shit. I know De Gea will be gone sooner or later.

No you wouldn't, don't be silly.
They're quoting AS I believe, a ridiculously RM biased paper, so I wouldn't give it much attention.Guys the same day two papers contradicted about De Gea. The Mirror (if I’m right) says that De Gea and LVG are not talking since months, and the Daily Mail tells that De Gea will sign another contract.
So how we should take that? Mighty Mendes said last week that we’re renegotiating for him…
As someone said, he will leave one day because he’s too good to play 4th place or 5th place every year. If we can drastically improve the team and reach the top again, he will stay, but if we’re struggling he’ll ask to leave.
In a business way of view, we can say that we will try to get 35M€ for him plus an advantage for Bale or Modric, knowing that we have Valdes behind (if he’s still the same keeper).
In an effective way, I would like to keep him 10 more years
Count me in as "silly" then. It's not that odd to prefer you had a team made up largely of players who really wanted to be here and didn't already have one eye on their next move.
It's solid teams like that, made up of players playing for each other and the shirt they wear, that create sustained success. Assembling packs of footballing mercenaries can buy you instant success but dynasties get built on more solid foundations. I'd cite City as an example.
You'd rather be mid-table would you?
You clearly never lived through the wilderness years then. I've experienced winning nothing but the odd FA Cup year after year and I've experienced winning everything in sight year after year. I prefer the later tbh.
I'm 52 years old so that negates your first wild assumption. Wilderness years my arse.
The underlying sentiment is that for some it's not just about winning, as great as that is, but how you do it and who you do it with. Call it values without which your club turns into just A.N. Other. I'd wager there's a healthy percentage of the current fanbase, including some on here, who'd drop United if they stopped winning on a permanent basis and turned into also rans. Inevitable if all you desire is to see your team win no matter how.
Unfortunately, those days are gone, footballers are mercenaries. You can not hark back to bygone days otherwise you will only go backwards, that would be a significant step backwards & I doubt anyone really wants to go down that path. You will know, like me, what is like for a little boy to see the football team he loves getting relegated. United are a money making machine, like it or not, it is simply not an option to be a midtable club, we'd go bust in 5 years.
You can have a winning club, and one that makes plenty of money, without sacrificing all your values.
I said I'd rather us be mid-table with the kids and loyal players than under performing top players on big wages. The guy I was replying too was basically saying we are a mid table team, which of course we currently are not but I was just saying if we was I'd rather it be with the kids and loyal players. I'm all for this spending big but if the players we spend big on don't perform then we need to be brutal and get rid and them get new faces in every transfer window. No you wouldn't, don't be silly.
Are these genuine quotes from him?
The quotes aren't exactly effusive, are they? He seems to studiously avoid saying he and LVG get on well which might just be the way it is or indicative of a deeper issue.
He seems like a decent club man, though, so he's trying to kill the story before it gets going.
Ruins his bargaining power. Right now he holds all the cards and can probably get the highest salary of all GK's at the moment. If he comes out and says don't worry guy's I am staying, the club won't need to court him anymore. If he commented on those rumours he knows the underlying reason why they came up in the press, doesn't he? Why doesn't he comment on his future at all?
