If he's going then make Real pay 75M. Do it. How much do they value him? Hate those feckers.

I don't know if I'm just being extremely naive, but I really don't feel nervous about him leaving any time soon. I expect him to sign a contract before the season is out, and it will be some of the best news we've had for a couple of years.

He'll sign a new contract. Might not be a lengthy one as the club would prefer though.

I hope Mendes remembers that £3.5m bribe we game him in the form of the Bebe transfer and tells Dave to stay.

He'll sign if we are likely to finish in the top 4 - he'll want Champions League football. Finishing in the top 4 is an absolute must this season. Fail and De Gea won't be the only player looking to leave and it will be hard to replace them with the best. One season out of the CL is a blip, two is the start of a pattern.

Lets be honest, at this current moment in time, Manchester United is nowhere near the level of Madrid. What can we offer that they can't beat/match? Going to be gutted if he leaves, but I'm not sure there is anything we can do to stop the move if David himself wants to go.

Madrid weren't near our level in 09 but Ronnie still wanted to go.

One thing is. with these sorts of transfer sagas, especially involving Real Madrid, the player generally always ends up going eventually.

Whether it be immediately, one season, two season who knows.

I think de Gea will sign a new deal, however it will be his last and in 2-3 years Madrid will come in with another serious offer and they will get their man.

If we end up giving them De Gea we should make sure to get Navas in exchange. He's not really much worse than him and shouldn't be on the bench.

Now I know how those Dortmund fans felt when Bayern poached Lewandowski with one year left in his contract. His importance to Dortmund was similar to DDG for us.

If we lost De Gea I'd be more 'angry and confused' than the time we lost Ronaldo.

Valdes seems to be an insurance policy. If DDG does want to go to Madrid Utd can now say 'ok, if that's how you feel. But we want top, top dollar for you'. They can then point to Valdes and say he'll be first choice if it cuts up rough with agents etc.

We obviously didn't have that option with Lindegard.

The club really has an awful habit of making United fans worry. This contract should have been sorted ages ago.

I wouldn't be surprised if De Gea signs a new contract with release clauses in if we fail to qualify for the CL. For a player of his calibre it makes sense to demand something like that before committing to us at this point.

All agents including Mendes are annoying. They're bullshitters and some of them are too powerful. You see players brainwashed and seduced by talk of riches. You get behavior that pisses off supporters. De Gea should tell his agent to button it. Don't want to hear from him. Don't care. Not interested. He's a nobody who thinks he's a somebody. I think he'll sign but it'll be interesting none the less

On the plus side:
  • He has given his all to United, been consistently our strongest performer so if his head is elsewhere its not showing in his game play.
  • United look to be heading in the right direction in terms of signings and mentality. If he managed to see out 2 shit years of no trophies then hopefully he will hope to reap the rewards of a being in the team with better signings.
  • His allegiance to Atletico would hopefully come into play
  • Madrid have 2 great keepers there already
On the down side
  • Its Madrid, they are bastards.

All the hard work we put in the transfers in the summer will mean significantly less if we lose our best player. It's like 1 step forward and 2 back.

Anyone else here find this Mendes bloke fecking annoying?
For a guy for whom we seem to bend over backwards in order to keep happy, he doesn't seem to offer much in return.

If De Gea does leave (and it's my nightmare scenario,) then we need to demand something astronomical (either in transfer fee, or an agreement for Ronaldo to return. Failing that, Bale offered in return might help.)

Bale is not enough if De Gea leaves (I don't think he will btw). Ronaldo, or no deal.

Didn't we make De Gea hire Mendes as his agent before he moved to us? It was one of the hold ups in the transfer wasn't it?

I'd take Bale, Varane and Kroos for De Gea + £20million. The most un-realistic, and unbalanced deals ever. But, we won't find a keeper of De Gea's quality and age easily.

When you sign a young goalkeeper of his quality, you are delighted cause you think that the club will have him for a long time, so to speak you dream of an era... and whenever you sign a player from Atletico Madrid you think you are safe from the white circus. (Sorry that I didn't read the whole 24 pages... is this an issue?)

Let's see if we will have a de gea era or if we need a replacement. I still think that he will sign a new contract.

I've defended the Bale option but to be honest, i wouldn't happy, if we swapped De gea for Bale, only Modric would be a painless swap, since i don't rate Ronaldo that highly.

Now, i hope that we will be able to keep De Gea forever and sign Modric.

I think we'll risk losing him for nothing to be honest, because I don't see us selling in the summer unless a massive fee is submitted. We were prepared to let Rooney's contract run down too.

I think that Bayern set a good example with Kroos, they sold him because it was the right thing, they didn't wanted to, but you can't do what Dortmund did with Lewandowski that's stupid.

We can run the risk of keeping him in the hope he'll sign an extension. I think I'd rather keep him the extra year unless Real Madrid make a substantial bid. What's £20 odd million to us anyway? £40 to £50 million and we can talk, lets see how desperate they are.

Personally i wouldn't, and it wont be appreciated but if i was Woodward, if De Gea doesn't sign a new contract, i would call Madrid myself a proposed them a deal.
A good relationship with them can become handy and 20 million is two years of Di Maria wage. It's a lot of money.

We're a super rich club not needing to sell at all and he's one of the best players we have, being our best performer for the second season running, at least. 40m is a piece of piss. When we are in this position they should either have to make a stupid bid (like they paid for Bale) or get de Gea to cnut us and hand in a transfer request.

£40 million for a 'keeper in the final year of his contract is absurd money to be honest.

Worth remembering that Neueur cost Bayern <20m. You just don't get the same sort of fee for keepers you get for outfield players.
No you don't, which is fair enough. I just wouldn't sell to Madrid unless they're prepared to bid stupid money. £20 million isn't much to us.

Why because it's Madrid or because it's De Gea ?
