The poll is like the De Gea stock market, the De Gea Index is drifting down, off 5.4 points today alone, despite nothing new in the news on the matter, just a load of miserable posters with down beat posts.

This.

DDG won't be so important when we get a proper defence in place, & if he has to be the carrot that gets us Bale for a reasonable fee then I'm not dead set against it tbh, if he won't sign a new contract then it leaves us little option anyway.

It's becoming ever more apparent that his long-term future is going to be spent elsewhere, probably Real Madrid, so I'm starting to wonder if we'd be better off trying to get Bale.

Bale might not be as good an outfield player as De Gea is in goal, but he would give us some much needed pace and inject a bit of fear into opposition teams. Also, if we get Bale, we'd most likely have him for the remainder of his career, or until we were done with him, whereas even if De Gea signs a new contract it would still look like a temporary arrangement.

And it pains me to say that. I wouldn't swap De Gea for anyone if there was an actual guarantee that we'd have him for a significant amount of time. If there was an option for a straight swap right now with Messi or Ronaldo, or De Gea staying for the next decade, I'd keep De Gea.

I don't see him signing any contract extension with us to be honest, would love to be wrong though.

I wonder will the club look to cash in, or keep him a further year only to risk losing him for nothing? I refuse to believe he wasn't offered a contract sometime last season when he was easily our best player, I think his girlfriend remaining in Spain is the issue.

Did she ever move over to Manchester ?

Nope, she has her own career in Spain. She's a singer and presenter, she's representing Spain in the Eurovision too.
Fair enough really. I can totally understand if he wants to move back to Spain, some things are more important than your career.

Yep, that's pretty much why I've accepted he's leaving. I don't think money or love of the club is the issue, it's just our Dave is a romantic.

I see no reason why we wouldn't offer dave one of the best contracts a keeper would be on. After all signing Di Maria and Falcao signals our intent on signing the best players - which leads me to believe that Dave is stalling on a deal.

We must have started negotiations already, and I don't believe it would be a cheap offer so immediate signs don't look good. Even if he does sign one now to me it gives the impression he doesn't see his best years with us.

This is exactly why I think he'll go. I think it's safe to assume we've offered him a contract extension and I also think it's safe to assume we've offered him massive wages.

Doubt they'd match Real Madrid's offer.

Probably, but unless Real are gonna let us get someone as part of the deal, I'd rather sell him to Atletico at a lower price. And if it comes down to wages, then that would just be down to Dave being willing to not earn as much.

For those who think van Gaal would want to sell de Gea to prove some sort of point, you're mental. If de Gea is to be sold, it'll be because he and his advisors have said that he doesn't want to sign a new contract and wishes to leave.
You could sticky this to the top of the front page but some posters will still think that United wanted to sell him or swap him for Bale.

I have a bad feeling he's off. If this were a money issue, it would've been solved along time ago as we usually just pay the money and situations like these are solved quickly like Januzaj's and Rooney's situations were. With his form last season we wouldn't dick around and there's no way we haven't been actively trying to get him to sign a new deal.

If it's his wish to go back to his home country, I can't fault him for it. But if he chooses to leave, he needs to do the right thing and sign a new contract that protects the club from being low balled.

Januzaj and Rooney's contract negotiations went on for fecking ages.

The more this is delayed the more I believe that this is our last season with big Dave between the sticks. Madrid will get him for relatively cheap too considering he is in his last year of contract he could simply run it down. Need to start planning for his proper replacement, hopefully someone who is a top prospect just like he was years ago.

I think United would rather turn down £30m and have him for another season than sell him to Madrid for that price, which is a lot for a goalkeeper.

Feck it I say, he has his own career too and she hasn't bothered to follow him to England when he moved.

His parents are in England as far as I know.

Exactly. He doesn't need to move to Spain to follow his girlfriend, she should come live in England. They will have more than enough money to live.

I do wonder why everyone is so adamant that he will leave. Has there been ANY noteworthy confirmation of RM's interest? That the contract negotiations are going badly? That he's unhappy/unsettled/homesick? I feel like this whole place is basing all this negativity on the fact that he's Spanish and will be their #1 goalkeeper soon, so he NEEDS to play in Spain? If playing for your national team means also playing in your national competition, the Dutch squad would have 3 players left.

I think he'll be here next year, even though the contract situation starts to worry me a little. Might be more stuff going on behind the scenes then that we know though.

Because;

A) The contract remains unsigned. It's unusual of us to let contracts go into their last year for key players, so it's understandable to assume we've made approaches, but yet it remains unsigned.

B) We've been here before with players and it's beginning to feel familiar

C) It's natural to fear the worst case scenario

D) Papers are picking up on it, which filters through to fans regardless of whether their reports have any factual basis

E) His girlfriend is in Spain and isn't going anywhere anytime soon because of her career

F) It's Real Madrid and the Spanish league, not FC Twente and the Dutch league so that last point is completely pointless

Sure, us negative nellies are feeding off a lot of circumstantial evidence and hearsay, but I think the points I've raised show that this feeling isn't completely unjustified. We haven't just picked it out of thin air.

Fair enough, and the last point is not really that relevant, I'll give you that. Maybe I'm not that jaded yet and remain optimistic, that could be the case.

You go and tell her that! :p On a serious note, I think his final decision will not be based on whether his girlfriend lives in Spain or England. If he likes it here and wants to stay here I doubt he will move there only for her.

His agent is making us sweat to get him more money.

Regarding his gf, he'd see just as much of her if he was in Spain. For all we know, he might see a lot of her whilst he lives over here, it's just plain guesswork from everyone about this matter.

I would add (G) We have signed Valdes as a plan b if De Gea leaves, I guess.

Exactly, feck her off, like Rory Mcilroy did with his fiancée. He's too young to be tied down to one girl, when he's the World's No. 1 keeper he'll have plenty of crumpet to keep him going.

Are people forgetting that Rooney didn't sign his contract extension until February last year? Some of the meltdowns on here are entertaining but people need to get a grip. There has been no indication whatsoever from De Gea that he isn't happy here and only a few weeks ago Ian Ladyman wrote that we are confident that the contract will be sorted soon and his family are happy here. The BBC recently said that we were relaxed about the situation. Heck even LVG said in a press conference recently that it should be done and dusted soon. Would he say that if the negotiations weren't going well? Of course not. The only sources linking him to Real are the Spanish press (which we know from past transfer windows hardly ever get it right) and the likes of the Daily Star and the Express over here. No reliable English papers or news outlets have linked him to us.

If he hasn't signed an extension by the summer (I'll be very surprised if he hasn't) then people can panic but until then some of the posts on here are way OTT.

No idea who or what that is, so...
