If he does go, it's the final piece of evidence to show that we are now Madrids feeder club

It wouldn't though would it really?

If Madrid had a keeper from Manchester and he had turned into a top class player, but all his family were still in Manchester, and his girlfriend wanted to be there, then along come United wanting him as their first choice keeper, this all perfectly times with his contact running out, then I think we might stand a chance of getting him.

It's just circumstance and the fact he is Spanish, much as it was for Ronaldo (not the Spanish bit obviously).

I'd actually say 2 and a half season's good form and then getting us shafted on transfer sale fee is a poor return for the £18m, sizable wages and effort we put into him.

No club is a charity, so why does any player show respect and loyalty to the club that helped him develop? Why did Ronaldo choose to in an almost identical situation?

Not sure what the wages we pay him have to go with anything, that's the going rate for a keeper of his quality. You can't expect him to be unbelievably grateful for something the club had to give him in the first place.

As for Ronaldo, I'd imagine that was motivated by his relationship with SAF far more than any extreme loyalty to the club. I'm not going to expect any player to ultimately put the club ahead of their own best interests. Similarly, I wouldn't expect us to hesitate in getting rid of a player if it was in the club's best interest. If that's disloyalty then I guess football is an inherently disloyal sport.

Yup 100%, If they get De Gea, they will have taken our best player twice in 6 years. It won't change under the bottlers we have on the United board currently, the same idiots who didn't go for Mourinho and instead picked a guy who has won zero trophies to succeed Ferguson.

As each day passes my confidence in him signing and staying dwindles.
Would be the best signing of the summer transfer window if he does though.

What should the bottlers on the board do regarding De Gea?

Not really.

Bottlers on the board?

Give over.

The minute he leaves I wont give a flying fu.k about him. Not only that, I'll laugh when Madrid fans will jeer him at the first sing of bad form.

Not really.

We should have signed him up when he won player of the year last season, obviously we don't know what his intentions were but I don't buy into this whole "We finished 7th so why would he sign" argument. We spent big money and hired a supposedly world class manager to come here and improve the team. It's not a new thing either, unless you are Ronaldo when we have pretty much let every players contract run down to 18months before renewing it, which is obviously understandable with squad players but not your important ones.

If he had signed last season he still could leave if he wanted to.

I see you mean because of the Solksjaer and Schmeichael , too bad there isnt much talent there though

But even then we are the only "elite" club who are up with Bayern, Barca, and RM, who cant keep our best players, really sucks. Plus I dont understand people wishing him the best and being happy for him if he leaves

Thats just small club mentality, when one of your players makes itto the big stage and fans are proud seeing their former player tearing it up at the top, but we are Manchester United ffs

The fans stayed with him in his first 2 years, where especially when he first came he really struggled, and got slaughtered in the media, now he`ll be voted PPOTY 2 years in a row , especially for a GK, you cant ask for better
I ain't voting for him, will give it to Carrick instead. As much as De Gea has done, we've also won quite a bit when Carrick's fit, so he gets the vote for me.

The only thing that's helping me understand it is his missus. The real irony for me is that he never would have been afforded the time by the RM fans that he was given at Utd when he had a shaky start.

He absolutely would not have been supported by RM's hierarchy or the fans if he'd have had a shaky start with them. I reckon he'll have plenty of time to experience their negativity if/when he has a temporary loss of form.

How do you mean how?
He wouldnt be a 1st player to leave after he signed a new contract nor the last.

But we would at least get something close to a world record fee for a keeper if we was signed on a long term deal though, then we could re invest in the squad.

Well nobody knows what happened behind the curtains last season and it certainly wasnt the best time to sign a new contract. Its easy to blame it all on the board.
If DDG really wants to leave he could at least sign now so we can get a fee.

Does someone have the link to Marca information? I can´t find anything.Maybe they said in Radio Marca. In 2 hours It will be published tomorrow´s cover. If they have something, probably will be there (although I think the transfer it´s obvious weeks ago)

Can't really care if he leaves, enjoyed watching him and he's a great goalie but not irreplacable. Seems like a nice fella and if he wants to go back to Madrid he should do it. However I just voted yes in the poll, but then again I missed the rumours of him agreeing personal terms with Madrid until just now. It's all fairly confusing.

Anyway if he leaves, this would be the 12121257 time Jorge Mendes fecks us. When was the last time he actually did something for us? Always helping Madrid, always helping Mourinho, from Bebe to Nani, we always have to pay. He's a wanker. Best case scenario we'll end up with a 25 year old goalkeeper on ridiculous wages.

This. Does he know something about the directors at United? Why oh why do we always give in to this guy? It's really pissing me off. We've really created a monster. I would refuse to do any further business with him unless he helps us to get a huge huge fee for De Gea. He's really taken the piss has Mendes!

It's a totally understandable decision and good luck to him and all that but I really hope we don't have to go through the same sort of fanboyish fawning that has followed Ronaldo since he left. Albeit, even as I say that, on RonCafe, I realise how unlikely it is.

I know loyalty Is dead these days but I still can't understand how you can grow up supporting and playing for Athletico then happily sign for Real a few years later.

But if he wants to go then feck him off quickly, don't want it turning into a summer long Madrid and De Gea flirt session.

Also I'm sure a year or 2 ago he was talking about wanting to stay a a United player for life and to become a legend here.

He's not supposed to do anything for us. His job is to represent his clients' best interests. We're not his client. De Gea obviously wants to go to Real, so Mendes is making it happen. It wouldn't be normal to disregard his client's wishes for us.

If Bale comes the other way then I won't care, there are other good goalkeepers around.

I love DDG but once he's gone I couldn't care less how his career ends up. We stuck by him through a couple of rough seasons and now he's done the same, but it would have been nice if he kept on for a bit, or at least signed a contract to we get a good price (this could still happen of course). It was inevitable that he'd go back to Spain if he reached his potential, so I'm not too surprised, just saddened because he seemed to have a good relationship with the fans and the players. Hope we buy smart now, get rid of Falcao too, and get someone from Madrid like Bale or Varane to make it a little less annoying and get a British or other non spanish speaking keeper. I don't want to lose another player reaching their prime to Madrid

Daily Mail going with the story about him reportedly agreeing terms with Madrid.

I'm assuming that we won't have given him permission to talk to Madrid so this would be a case of Real tapping up, correct?
