Oh absolutely nothing...Just the arrogant tone that comes with supporting a successful club.

I should know. I've been guilty of it the last 23 years
Sorry anyway, I did not mean to be nasty , I answered the comment about the circus but not intended to underestimate United

Always thought he'd sign a new deal but it's been going on for so long I'm finding it hard to think he'll stay. Seems a typical Madrid signing tbh. :(

Pretty obvious that money isn't the issue I would have thought. We would offer him whatever he wanted financially.

What's going to make him leaving worse - whenever it happens - is the glee you'll hear from opposing fans. He's undeniably class, only getting better and has performed minor miracles against all our rivals.

:(

Crap, posted my earlier post in DdG thread not this one … :wenger:
This is getting silly now!

I'm sure it can be easily explained as just a few days off to visit his bird who's based there but he really needs to do something to dispel the rumours.

He's been offered a ton of cash and if his heart is not set at United then he should just do us all a favour and go!

As brilliant as he is (and don't get me wrong I'd love it if he stayed, even for big cash) there is no point keeping someone who simply does not want to be here or is using our facilities and name to help drive his price up as he runs his contract down.

Have some fecking balls and tell us what YOU want David!

It always depresses and annoys me when I see us (as a fan-base) getting too 'needy' over an individual player who isn't reciprocating the attention.

In the 5 years between Schmikes leaving and VDS arriving we won 3 Premier Leagues and an F.A Cup - and Pete was a better keeper than Dave (yes, he was).

So, you, know, perspective.

Our main priority needs to be sorting out our ridiculously lightweight defense and signing at least one commanding, elite CB and a top quality RB - this is more important than keeping DDG.

Obviously there to reaffirm his indissoluble bond with Atletico, which for reasons of honour and dignity, will preclude him from ever joining Real, or indeed even considering the matter with any degree of seriousness.

Unless they offer him lots of money.

Has anyone seen the picture of him to Madrid. Apparently Van Gaal has given him some time off. It has fuelled some speculation.

I am actually serious.

That is the football World now, loyalty is very rare, I think that adds a few million on to the cost of the over hyped not as good English players but if you can develop them they are more likely to be loyal and not move abroad. I agree with the VDS statement, there are competent goalkeepers we can sign that will do a good job, annoying to see De Gea go as we have brought him on so much and he is very likeable, but looking at the team under LVG he is not the most critical position we should be concerned about, tbh he has been excellent but he has been over worked which he should not have been and that is a bigger concern. Given the choice though obviously I would love him to stay, but even if he leaves there is more important attention needed, given the "philosopy", in other areas of the pitch.

Yeah, I know. And, to be honest, I don't mind that. I totally understand if he wants to go and live in his hometown where his girlfriend is and play for a team that is actually competing at the highest level - in fact, it's mental to begrudge him that when looking at it objectively.

The thing that annoys me is how 'clingy' we can get as a fan-base, it's the flipside to how loyal we are to our players.

I think it's a byproduct of the anomalous situation we've had of having the same, brilliant manager for 26 years - and with him a generation of very loyal, very talented academy players (Class Of '92).

It's undeniable that from the moment Fergie announced his retirement we've been a club engulfed in sentiment and emotion. I can understand this, but I feel we need to move back to a mindset of ruthlessness (for want of a better word).

Of course we should show our love and support to the club and players, but lets not repeat the Ronaldo self-humiliation fest with de Gea.

Agree totally. I really like de Gea, he's absolutely brilliant and I think he seems like an intelligent, cool guy. And I really, really hope he signs a new deal and stays.

But if he wants to go, make him regret it in the coming years. Same with anyone who leaves, rather than yearn for their return, concentrate on winning trophies and make them regret leaving Manchester United.

I have stopped following the paper stories as it keeps feeding on my fear of the worst. Would love him to stay obviously but if the worst comes to worst i hope we get a good amount and Navas in exchange. That guy is a brilliant keeper, so underrated.

I'd be disappointed if De Gea leaves and we don't bag any of their top 5 players in return.
We don't really hold that many cards in this game though do we. First is De Gea's contract situation, if we can't get him to sign an extension then it is either sell him or lose on a free. If he wants to leave, then that leave us holding an even worse hand and little bargaining position.

Then of course there is the issue that it is not just a matter of demanding one of their top 5 players, those players would have to WANT to leave Real Madrid. Not saying we are a small club or any of that nonsense, just pointing out that while it is easy to say we should get Player X in return, the reality is that Player X has to accept the move.

rather keep him one more year than sell him for 30 million euro. worth more to us in one year than that fee to be honest.

I don't know if it's just me but even though he's still made some great saves, his head hasn't seemed with it as much as before.
Everthing seems right for him to move to Madrid, to be honest.
I hope it's not his girlfriend swaying him because that would be the stupidest decision at his age.

Reckon Sunday is his last Old Trafford game for Manchester United. He's pretty calm so wouldn't expect to see much emotion from him.

For our last home game we usually have the players walk around the pitch with their kids/families/whatever so that'll be interesting

Don't think he'd go that far but it'll be interesting to see if does anything out of the ordinary after the game.
Prefer for crapped pants and this thread instantly 20 pages longer if it seems anything like a goodbye.

I hope he plays his last game in a sombrero just to feck with us.

Then afterwards he signs a 15 year extension on the pitch while Woody gyrates topless on a podium.
