Must say its great not to be bothered a single bit with all this crap around him staying and leaving. Here is my take tho,if he wants to leave,we should sell this summer,no contract extending so he can leave in year or two, feck that, throw him now there while Casillas is still around.Other scenario,we should keep our eyes on Real and theirs transfer ban situation,if its still possible then dont sell him this summer, let him leave for free,he would not be able to join them so good luck in that case.

And still lose him for free to someone else?

Well all scenarios are in case that he wants to leave, means that he would want to join them and only them,we refuse to sell to Real->he does not want to join any other club this summer->he stays and sees his contract out,Real get banned and he can do w/e he wants,he can join Real and not be registered for a year or he can join any other club on free etc.

I believe that when a team is banned from transfers, they can still sign players who do not have a contract. So, next year De Gea can go there for free, no matter what.

I assumed they'd be banned from registering players, regardless of whether there's a fee or not.

He could, of course, just decide to play out his contract.

Yea but he could not be registered, means not a single game till ban is lifted i think.

Nope. They can't register new players.

At least he could have done like f**** Suarez. He signs a new contract and leave for a big fee this summer.

Here, he is in strong position for the nego with Madrid, low fee, low wages, as he's free to them and threatening them with the new contract…

"Florentino sign me at this price now or I will sign a mega deal with my club, and move fast at my condition”

Clever from him and Mendes, but a bit “disrespectful” for us…

Anyway, if he didn’t signed yet, that’s mean that he won’t. So work on a replacement, or make sure that Valdès is fit enough to replace him from day one next year.

If Woody is strong enough, he would open the door for Carvajal in exchange, or Modric + cash (if Pogba signs for them) or even Bale + cash in the best case

Still holding out hope he and Mendes are just being sensible.

If I was DDG I would also not have signed by now in all honesty. Champions League wasn't certain and he's also still not certain who's going to be playing in front of him next season.

Getting 4th is a step in the right direction, but if I were DDG id be waiting to see if rumours of Hummels and a decent CM were true first, otherwise im still not gonna be winning things, ill be going out early stages of UCL and still be having to watch my defence crumble before my eyes week in week out.

DDG currently has options, and one of the best agents in the world. If he was looking to leave Mendes could have had it done by now. The fact he hasn't suggests to me that DDG would like to stay providing he has a capable team to play in next year. What's the point signing a new contract now based on good transfer rumours when the summer could still potentially collapse and next season be a struggle again with no sign of trophies.

Hard to argue with any of that, but from a purely selfish United point of view, I don't think him signing a new contract would jeopardise his dream move, it would just give us a bit more leeway when it came to it.

As much as it's pain in the arse, I don't think standing in the way of a Madrid born, young goalkeeper would be in the clubs best interest in the age of player power. From the outside looking in it appears a gentleman's agreement about a move to Madrid would be our best bet. From what I can gather he wouldn't be 100% guaranteed number 1 at Madrid just yet, and he seemed to suggest at the last international break, that being Spanish number 1 was his priority, and that playing in England has really helped him. I think it's obvious he's making his career prospects the priority for now, and as you alluded to, we might yet be able to offer him the best all round package but I think any guarantee of the number 1 at Madrid would put an end to his time here unfortunately.

I feel that this will be engineered between the clubs by Mendes so United, Madrid and De Gea get what they want - Mendes will get his big chunk of a pay rise for De Gea and a bigger transfer fee

If keeping him for another year and getting 40 million for him is the result I'd be happy

The way things are I can't see us getting close to that

I think he's gone he's not extended and he's tight lipped about it which is never gone.

I think he's very easy to come out and say "No I'm not going anywhere" but he hasn't.

I fully expect him to leave in the summer, a club of Manchester Uniteds stature and revenue streams should make De Gea the best played goalkeeper on the planet. Problem being his girlfriend in Madrid, which I think is half the reason behind his departure.

Yeah I think he's gone. Hopefully he puts in one last great OT performance before he does :(

We shouldn't be selling him this summer whether he signs an extension or not.

And that's partly vindictive, but mostly just common sense. End of the day he'll be motivated to play even if we screw up his plans, for several reasons. Unless we secure a top class keeper like Cech, keeping him is mitigating risk. Given how weak our position is, Real won't offer us enough to make it worth selling him this summer.

Also, it would be hilarious if he refuses to sign an extension (which is frankly just disrespectful to the club), and then Real are hit with a transfer ban in 2016.

Any player who willingly chooses to join that circus of a club after all the public displays of affection from the fans and management team we should happily let leave, their loss. This is a club who boo one of the best players of all time and a keeper who is a club legend and one of the best keepers the sport has ever seen. If that doesn't give players an idea of the state of that club let them leave, get a big price from Madrid and sign Lloris and enjoy the ride.

Speaking of Cech, why are those white feckers not going at him while they are at it? Cech is one unhappy goalie in his current situation.

The annoying thing is we could potentially end up getting less from Madrid than what we paid. We have taken a raw talented goalkeeper and developed him in to one of the worlds best. (we have predominantly Eric Steele to thank for that). If he is going to leave then I wish him well we deserve a return for our investment!

Because De Gea is Spanish!

I couldn't care less if he was from Burma or from anywhere else. There's a goalkeeper out there whose situation is very difficult considering what he can still bring (Cech), so don't they think it would be easier to convince Cech in the current situation? Also, I'm fed up with Chelsea never getting harassed by Madrid or Barcelona when it comes to look for players.

Same here as well.

I've been convinced for a few weeks now that he's off. The longer he delays signing the new contract, the more likely it becomes he will leave. Either way, I suspect we will know within the next month.

Im eager for us to know early so we can make preparations to sign another goalie. Begovic would be a good signing IMO.

It's because they're a club that's run ruthlessly, we're not.

If you took away our global status, we would be sinking fast now.

Chelsea don't have the safety net of sponsorships and 'partners' like we do, so they concentrate on running the club in a watertight way.

We've gotten soft in recent years - we've become actively bad at reinvesting in the squad, we pay way too much for players (Shaw, di Maria) and we're soft on our wage hand-outs (Falcao on £250,000 a week - possibly for two seasons).

I doubt Real will offer Dave more money than us & there's reports that we've offered £200k per week also. Cant see them matchin that figure..

Awesome timing for that comment.

Latest media reports suggest it's not about the money. LvGs comments suggest it is not about money. It's all about if he wants to leave or not. So he needs to make up his mind and the sooner the better for all involved. I for one believe he's made up his mind.

That time is nigh my friend. If not this season, then next, Madrid will come in for Hazard. Especially if Zidane eventually takes over.

I'll be shocked if Madrid don't seriously press for Hazard in 2016 summer (I don't know what's going on with the transfer ban?)
Will probably end up being a world record fee, or very close.

He'd be another waste of money. Nowhere near the class worthy of breaking the transfer record. Though neither is Bale.

Will be interesting to see what he does after the final whistle on Sunday. A possible wave to the Old Trafford faithful?

Crazy and sad to think that he only may have 1 game left at Old Trafford.

Must say though, If he is going i'd rather he just done it at the start of the window rather then it dragging all Summer which you can imagine will happen.

I think if DDG gave us a couple more years of his world class form he would leave us with a bit of a legacy and will be always remembered fondly at the club. If he left right now it will leave a sour taste. Obviously not trying to say that he owes us anything or stuff but that he is still very young and can spend the best part of a decade at Madrid

Him staying would be the best piece of business we'll do all summer, therefore I can't help feeling we have already failed this transfer window, regardless of who comes in. Failing to keep one of the best keepers in the world is a massive set-back. We are meant to bring in more world class players, not let them leave. Don't think we can blame the club for this considering he probably wants to leave and we have reportedly offered him massive wages. A bit disappointed in De Gea I must admit, did not expect him to leave this club so soon.

He's as useful a player as Bale or Ronaldo, so we should be getting £60-80m for him, right? Whether he's a goalkeeper or not.
If he wants to leave he should be signing a contract so we can get decent money from him. I doubt it'd be any skin off his back, would it?
Us being us though, we'll be lucky to see £30m.
