Day 3 | Poland vs Netherlands | Slovenia vs Denmark | Serbia vs England

It is not. It is more about not being blinded by media and pundits. He is nowhere near what they want you to believe. To compare him to some english central midfielders players like Scholes, Gerrard, Lampard and so on is like comparing Burnley to Manchester.

Bellingham is young and can develop to the hights if he work hard but he got a lot to learn before being what people already have put him.
At the age of 20 he’s far ahead of what those 3 were at the same stage of their careers. If you think otherwise you’re just blinded by bias or are having a boomer moment

Very mature interview from Bellingham, not getting carried away by the other scorelines but focusing on the opponent in front of you.

The press though, the over-the-top build up of a young player as EtH talked about is in full swing before the inevitable hack down when things aren't going right.

First game I turned off early after I started it. I never read a lot in first games of any tourney for any team though. Hopefully their game against Denmark is a bit more exciting.

I actually think Serbia can feel bad they lost this game, they weren't any worse than England.
Serbia didn't create anything of note across the entire 90 minutes, when England sat off they were utterly devoid of attacking threat

I don't see how they can feel bad about an L.

England will scrape by all the smaller nations and then be absolutely found out as soon as they play one of the good teams - again. I don't know how the tournament is set up this time and if they'll be able to go all the way to the final before playing a good team again though.

Kane did the dark arts of forward play today, constantly winning fouls.

There wasn't the service at all for him today, other than that one great Bowen cross in the 2nd half.

Yep.

Usually I blame him for everything, but today it showed up just how average our attack actually is. Foden in particular just doesn't seem to get it.

Saka set the goal up

True. But he also spent the rest of the game losing the ball. Today we will take it, next one when we lose 2-1 then it's a problem.

Did he actually create anything else?

That should be the last we see of TAA in this tournament, has no place in midfield. Kane had a shocker too but no way he gets dropped. Positives were Bowen and Guehi for me. Desperately need a fit Shaw to return at LB.

Over hyping Bellingham? English pundits are nauseating

Scored a goal but was as awful as the rest of them in the second half. Likes a dive and a moan as well!

it depends if Southgate is capable of being ruthless and flexible. Foden and TAA don't work and won't work. One of both need to go.

Southgate reminds me of Santos in Portugal. Terrible instincts, bad subs and defensive mindset. Santos was successful because the team was just really good, same with England, they're too good to not beat these kinds of teams, but I don't see them as favorites against another top team.

I don't think anyone did great, overall not shown a single thing that shows we can beat a top team.

He's actually a decent player and was the best on the pitch.

Don't be that kind of Irishman...There's enough of you being twats on here as it is, right @moses?

They're interviewing Marc Guehi. Can't unhear his surname without think of that "Ha...gaaaaaaaaaaAAAYYYY" meme.

If he didn't score would you say the same? He was very physical which helped, but not much otherwise.

Neither do teams that are shite.

Except Greece.
Good lord, now we’re shite. There’s little point debating tbh. Spain lost their opening game in 2010, Italy were scrappy in 2006 early on. National sides don’t get a lot of time together, after 2 or 3 more games with similar lineups the side will look a lot more comfortable. We were actually pretty good for 20 minutes today as well.

As much as I'm not a Kane fan, he was further up there today than he usually is.

Foden and Saka did nothing, they never actually do anything and yet get all the hype. They are England's real weakness, we need better and more direct players who can actually create chances.
Saka was brilliant?

Southgate has flaws (loads to be honest) but not subbing Kane is one. Stick Watkins on to keep the Serbian defenders honest and an out ball option.
Kane was consistently holding the ball up and buying foul after foul in the 2nd half. Why would you take him off when he's the doing the job he's being asked to do well?

England's good 20 minutes was 2 shots and 1 on target. Serbia then had 2 shots in about 5 minutes after it.

Well that was the dullest game of the tournament so far.

Poor, but Denmark and Slovenia was probably worse.

Opening rounds usually produce some good games, so far the pace of the games has been poor, these were like 3rd round dead rubber matches.

What was bad about his subs?
It took him 70 min to take off TAA, foden was trash the whole match. He puts bowen but leaves kane who was basically walking at that point. The team needed speed to kill them in the counter. Put palmer and watkins. Instead he made subs that invited pressure and let serbia take all the initiative.

Agree. Need to find a system that allows Palmer to get in the team.

Try this.. gives you an idea.

Assuming England win group, should have Italy or Spain in QFs, then France in semis. If they get through those, they’d deserve a place in the final.

”oh look at that flying pig!”

Palmer for who? To my knowledge he doesn't play left or center forward, and he's not that fast.

Honestly there are no changes that fix England.
