Day 3 | Poland vs Netherlands | Slovenia vs Denmark | Serbia vs England

Southgate is genuinely not a winner. His instinct is to defend the lead to death instead of adding more pressure. Some players were poor tonight but you can tell tactically they were asked to sit back and defend. This won't wash against top sides.
Yeah it’s the same performance as v Italy and Croatia. He’s gonna get praise for beating the likes of Serbia and getting to the point where they play top sides so he’s happy to go with it.

Will any English journalists have the balls to criticize Foden’s performance?

It'll all be about how Southgate's audacious TAA gamble paid off. Also how Kane has proven himself a legendary captain with a self-sacrificing performance.

Good result.

Guehi and Bowen the positives for me. We knew Saka and Bellingham were excellent.

Foden and Kane a worry. TAA won't start on Thursday.

Thought Gallagher was decent when he came on. Should start the next game.

I remember someone saying the other day that Switzerland make every game boring. that's England actually.

Nothing we haven't seen before. Let's be honest. No control in midfield. Not helped by playing a right back in there. No-one to put their foot on the ball and help us keep the ball after the early energy levels dropped. As always...

He says with England winning the game.

jokes aside, I agree in principle, however international and knockout football is usually won by being somewhat pragmatic. League football is far more system based.

Don't think you need to be amazing in the group games as long as you win. But the fact that we still shit it in the second half and forget how to retain possession is a worry.

Underwhelming after the first 20 mins.
TAA a disaster.
Foden worked hard but ineffectual.
Ended up holding on against fecking Serbia.
Kane touched it about 4 times.
A team of individuals less than the sum of its parts.
That is on the manager. 100%

I think with this performance, could see a few teams run through them not just Germany/France.
It was a poor performance but Serbia aren't a terrible team and if we're honest, they created hardly anything. I don't think we'll get run through but performances like that will get punished.

We will take the win, pretty poor overall performance and I'm far from convinced the strategy worked today, despite the win.

Southgate is so bad, he is the highest paid manager in European football and tactically hasn’t got a clue.

Peak Orsato shithousery to signal he's adding additional time twice for delaying putting the ball into play again and then blowing right on 4 minutes of overtime

Not the best showing from England but they did enough and for the first game of the tournament that's all you have to do.

Serbia are no mugs, not sure why people people are so negative.
That said, don't know about the long balls from the keeper, that caused the constant turnovers to Serbia

Mourinho's instincts are similar and he's widely regarded as one of the biggest winners.

We started brightly but Southgate again failed to make positive changes in response to Serbia's tweaks.

Foden was outstandingly bad, there is no justification for him staying on, and she shouldn't start next game.

Southgate holds us back. He has no tactical brain and terrible in-game management.

Not great, but we got the win. Similar to the Italy group match in some ways, and we won't be writing them off yet.

Lacklustre display from England, but it is 3 points in the bag. The 1st half was ok but we allowed Serbia to push us back in the 2nd half, and it was a hard watch. The left hand side of the team doesn’t work and we lacked control of the game, having said that, Bellingham and Rice were great.

Hopefully the team will grow into the tournament, because it’s the only way we will get to latter stages of the competition.

True, barring that long shot Serbia didn't threaten but England's defence was sloppy at times. Rice had to bail them out a few times.

Creativity going forward is a bit of a concern as well.

I think some people just deliberately hate on Bellingham. It’s quite clear.
It is not. It is more about not being blinded by media and pundits. He is nowhere near what they want you to believe. To compare him to some english central midfielders players like Scholes, Gerrard, Lampard and so on is like comparing Burnley to Manchester.

Bellingham is young and can develop to the hights if he work hard but he got a lot to learn before being what people already have put him.

So bad he turned into a woman ?
