Day 3 | Poland vs Netherlands | Slovenia vs Denmark | Serbia vs England

Yeah. Rice will expose them when he tries to play as a no10 again and leaves him isolated.

Rice will have to play more like the West Ham version, which just sits and mops up. His game has evolved since then though so will he still be as effective in that type if role vs what he does at Arsenal these days.

Slovenia no9 is awful couldn't hit a barn door. If those chances fell to sesko Slovenia would have won. Sesko looks like he could be a proper lethal striker in a few seasons with some polish.

Same. I'm not sure where this big push for him to play midfield has come from? He doesn't play there for Liverpool. I know he likes to drift in from RB, but that's completely different to actually starting there.

He's a defensive liability in a position he plays every week. What's he gonna be like in a position he's brand new to?
He played there once last season against Bournemouth in the EFL Cup, for half an hour.

If this comes off, Southgate will be a genius of course

No United player in the lineup. Who will get the blame if England lose?

Those statistics just show many England fans underrate Southgate. He’s brought them their biggest joy this century. I would still rather have Mr Blobby over him at United.

Sometimes the obvious choice is the right choice. Play a midfielder in midfield. You’ve got Mainoo, Wharton, Gallagher and Bellingham who can all partner Rice. But you play TAA. Gareth trying to be too clever I fear.

How well he does will depend on the pace of the game. If it’s a slow game, he’ll do well. But if Serbia press and harry, and the tempo is quick, his lack of familiarity with the role is going to show.

Sorry what joy has he brought?

Not a single United player. I still think not taking Rashford was a mistake. He provides something different to the rest of the squad.

Could be wrong but I think the last time England men’s starting XI in a major tournament match didn’t have any United players in it was against Germany on 26 June 1996.

Ince left a year earlier and Sheringham joined a year later. Phil Neville on the bench.

Gotten England to their first semi-finals since 1990 and their first final since 1966. It may have ended in tears, but I remember all the nonsense about football coming home in 2018 and 2021. They progressed further than they’d done at any other tournament in the 2000s. Then again, I’m Scottish, so I’m deliberately overrating Southgate slightly as a bit of banter.

Which England player gets the blame if we don't win tonight? My money is on Guehi or TAA.
On here Alexander-Arnold. In the tabloids? Saka or Mainoo for not subbing himself on early enough. Maybe Rashford just because. Sterling is another they like to go for.

So no joy at all? Ok glad that’s cleared up.

Serbia have a pretty solid side.

Milenkovic, Pavlovic, Milinkovic-Savic, Vlahovic, Mitrovic, Kostic, Lukic. All solid players.

Weird central midfield. England will still win, easily. But i am not sure its a good thing in terms of Gareth being encouraged to continue with that cm combo

Dumb decision to put TAA there when you have actual midfielders available

I mostly agree. But if the England team have decided that Serbia will sit deep and counter attack he’s a possible asset. The boy can pass and is a huge threat in attacking transitions too.

Defending fast defensive transitions with him in there is a worry though. Walker better be at his best.

Problem is their defense. But their matches in the WC were highly entertaining.

They often have but somehow they still often disappoint.

Last time, didnt they have some internal drama related with Vlahovic and one of his teammates wife?

Given what most have said on here, watch TAA have a blinder.

I'm just concerned he will do OK in the groups and then once we come against real quality he will get shown up due to lack of experience in the role.

It's certainly a gamble though.
