Day 19: Brazil vs Mexico and Belgium vs Japan

I played catcher for 16 years. It ain’t.

How does baseball require more toughness than basketball?

Also would you separate the positions there since in baseball pitching is very different than catching and outfielders are a different thing as well?

All of them

Do you have any data that actually shows baseball has more fights than hockey, basketball or football? High school baseball has more fights than high school NFL football? How about college baseball compared to college rugby?

Also I don't think that because a fight occasionally breaks out that makes a sport "tougher" physically.

If there was a Mexican wave, that ref would've given it to Brazil.

I know, Japan has them about 10 to 1 on population, it’s just... when I think “footballing countries” Belgium comes to mind, not Japan.
Even still when it comes to football, Belgium aren't that huge. Better than Japan historically, but what I mean is, Brazil having that record would be a lot more shocking.

When I think of footballing countries, Belgium is pretty low on the list.

I agree with you there. Like I said, I dunno why it seemed surprising, but it was.

That’s nice.

They don't have as many fights as hockey, but probably more of the bench clearing variety.

Also, they wear pretty minimal padding and stand there holding a deadly weapon while another player whips a small projectile at them. Getting hit by a pitch isn't a party. Sometimes the bat breaks and goes flying into players. CR probably got decked by runners at home plate a few times as well. Catchers wear samurai style armour for a reason.

Do you have any data
You are getting way more invested in this than I care about. Especially in regards to the point I made about diving in soccer.

Why is Brazil so hated? You can't possibly hate an entire team just because of one player. Apart from Neymar, all their other players are very likeable and their coach Tite.

NFL can't have actual fights because the players wear too much protective gear. THey turn into slap fights more than anything. Then someone grabs someone else by the facemask and everyone falls over.

They won 5 fecking WCs. Beating Europeans in finals every time

No, Neymar is that much of an unlikable cnut.

Routinely? At what level?
I mean every sport has fights especially at youth level, I've seen plenty in football/basketball too

In the MLB and it's pretty fun to watch because they actually throw punches.

I think Neymar is going to grow to be just as much of a cnut as Suarez is but he has better PR machine behind him and Fifa giving him referees like nursemaids rather than disciplinarians.

I really hope Belgium outdoo Germany and take them totally apart in the next round.

Maybe hatricks for Hazard, Lukaku and deBruynne before the first half finishes will make Neymar a jibbering wreck, appearing for the second half with white powder streaming from his nostrils and trying to pull a gun on the ref screaming that the match needs to be restarted!

Now that would be fun to watch!

Here’s to hoping Tite is stupid enough to still play Jesus next round.

Not invested just curious. I've never heard anyone claim baseball is higher in toughness factor than basketball or any other team sport so I was curious why you believed it was.
It sounds like the reason is possible fights and potential for a baseball to hit you?

I don't want to make pointless predictions, but if Belgium cannot create trouble to Brazil in the QF (if they pass) I cannot see who will. Lets put it this way, to win major tournaments beside the individual quality you need to have a good defensive record.

Who can matchup with Brazil on individual quality from the teams left? Maybe France? Who is the only team who looks so defensively solid as them? Uruguay?

And who is the team who has these 2 qualities added together? None imo. But still 3 games to go, would be very suprised if they don't win this.

Basically they suffered a goal against Switzerland from a set piece, only Uruguay has suffered a single goal from setpiece.
