Day 19: Brazil vs Mexico and Belgium vs Japan

Mexico dont even care. Their players are like whatever. If I were a Mexican I would be fuming at them. Losing to sweden like jokers and screwing their WC.

Yes, I feel brazil are being hated just because of neymar. Brazil have done well, maybe not the most classic Brazilian side but they are doing what other so called big teams are not doing that is scoring. I would take this brazil over the crap Spain or Germany have given us this wc.
They are efficient .

And have no real weaknesses. At least compared to the other remaining teams.

To be fair, I watch Football and Basketball and there's enough flopping in every sport.
Basketball is the closest our big 3 get, but even then, those dudes are called out for it.

I coach football as part of my job, and I haven’t figured out yet how to flop or dive in it.

Was about to say that. Surprisingly brazil are defending very well.

They barely conceded a goal in Commebol second half and also kept many clean sheets in friendlies in build up.

Vast experience with Silva, Miranda and Felipe Luis all in their 30s. Fagner done alright aswell.

Think they'll handle Lukaku o.k but interested how they cope with Hazard and KDB with Casemiro out. Bringing Marcelo back at LB would also give some more space.

You never see players rolling around on the basketball court like you would on a football pitch. It's nowhere near the same level of drama

My main question after this game is--how in the hell did Mexico make it this far? Their decision making in the final third was horrid. Ochoa absolutely class again tho.

Commentators said 5 goals conceded in 22 games.

France are still the best team at this World Cup. I think Belgium will beat Brazil

Fernandinho comes in. Very good replacement.

Does he cover the ground quite as well as Casemiro?

I do have feeling at back of my name Brazil are a little top heavy with front 3 + Coutinho and a more clever side could exploit that. Keep on expecting them to drop Gabriel Jesus and move Coutinho into the front three.

Mexico always do this in the recent wc’s when I’ve seen them. Look like the hotshot team in the groups, get people thinking and flop straight away in the knockouts.

Just to play devils advocate slightly, you don’t really have much opportunity to gain from playacting in Baseball or NFL. Although on pass interference you can and do sometimes. But I agree absolutely not on this level.

The defensive shape of Brazil is impressive. Silva and Miranda are proper defenders who control and see everything with committed central midfielders in front of them.

Exaggerating minimal contact is easily possible in football as well. And flopping was called out plenty in nasketball by us, lots of people in our country complain about the lack of allowed contact compared to the 90s in Basketball as well, not that that's necessarily true.

Quite true.

My original point though is that many Americans are brought up watching sports that put a premium on toughness.

Neymar is the antithesis of that.

Mexico's decision making when attacking was absolutely horrendous in that game. There was a lot of talk about Brazil's defensive solidity but I reckon a better attack (i.e. Belgium's) could give them a bit of a hiding.

Facing Belgium without Casemiro can be very tough, but Belgium have always been big bottlers in these kind of games though.

The UN occasionally includes Mexico in with Central America, for what it’s worth.

It’s like the Russia of the Western Hemisphere (spans multiple geographic regions)

An American quoting the UN as gospel on something?

No wonder y'all want that wall. Mexico is firmly North American.
