I'm sure France played with 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1 and they had Pavard making runs from full back and they didn't go with Kante AND Sissoko (or whatever DM they have at their disposal). Pretty sure Portugal didn't go for 5 at the back either.
England didn't commit more than their 3 forwards for the majority of the game. On one of the rare occasions Shaw made a run forward they broke the German defence. On the second goal again, they had 4 people forward.
Germany were there for the taking. Low's cycle is at it's end. We saw Germany's struggles last world cup and we also saw their struggles trying to qualify for this tournament and trying to make it out of their group. Southgate went with very negative tactics and gave too much respect to Germany. He will cost England's talented players the way Eriksson cost a great generation of English players.
