Day 17: England vs Germany | Sweden vs Ukraine (Ro16 7&8)

Not a red. He's reaching to kick a ball, which he does cleanly. Couldn't have avoided the contact. Silly precedent.

Yet another example of slo-mo making things look worse. VAR should really start taking that factor into account.

He could have broken the guys leg.

Attacker literally runs into his motion while he’s making a clearance. It’s not even one of those “he knew that could be dangerous” things like Mane on Ederson (or Van Dijk on Mertens).
He bent his leg backwards

Sadly it seems like anytime studs make contact with player its a sending off now. I'll never not be sad about the game when it happens because extending yourself and risking injury to get to the ball first is what the sport is essentially, at primal level, about.

Reckless and high, it was a blatant red.

never in a million years is that a red card. everybody who ever played football themselves will know, what on earth was Danielsson supposed to do? The guy runs into his leg, he played the ball

Why the feck does Kenny Cunningham get given a platform to peddle his complete and total gowlishness

Spot on.

Are people seriously saying that’s a red card. The slow mo as usual makes it look far worse than it is. That’s never a red card. I’d have been sent off 3 times a game if that’s a red card, complete joke a decision, I’m convinced anyone that thinks that is a red has never played the game.

Yes we should fight to keep studs up tackles.

Whoever says that isn't a red, I want you to tell me what is! He's lucky he isn't more seriously injured!

He could even be seriously injured now actually

“He got the ball first” as the offender stands roasting someone to death with a flamethrower.

May not make much difference anyway, has probably just settled Sweden's mind to what they need to do here. Simply get to pens. Both teams looking tired and lacking inspiration.

I hate that is a red
Because it's not a tackle
The guy is kicking the ball and the other guys momentum took him into the already high foot rather than the other way round

A red in the modern climate, wins the ball but follow through caused a bad injury by looks of it.

Kalvin Phillips wasn't half lucky not to get a red in England games considering it was over the ball challenge and he didn't win the ball.

Sweden really should've wrapped this up in normal time with all the chances they had.

It's not a tackle. It's a clearance. The ukranian is late to the ball and runs into Danielson's foot. Looks bad, but I think it's unfair.

How are people saying that’s not a red? Am I going insane cause that’s an absolute stonewall sending off

How can some say thats not a red, it was a shocking tackle
Each and every one that said not red, if it was in a PL game against a United player, you would be screaming for the red.
The Ukraine player will be lucky to be playing again anytime soon.

One of those tough ones. Had to be sent off, yeah, but wasn't even making a tackle. Cleared the ball cleanly and if anything, it's the Ukraine player who runs into the follow through.
Qualifies for reckless play, unfortunately.
