Day 17: England vs Germany | Sweden vs Ukraine (Ro16 7&8)

It's a half empty stadium. I suppose people in Glasgow are not big football fans.

On the other hand this game is breathe of fresh air compared to the earlier game, where one of the teams played with 7 defensive minded players and were scared to commit more than their 3 attackers forward for the majority of the game. And that's without taking in account how shite zi Germans were. Who in my opinion were lucky to get out of their group.
If the tickets were not obscenely priced I’ve no doubt more people would be there

Ukraine need a second wind and pretty quickly. Looking very leggy all of a sudden, not getting near anybody.

Yarmolenko is a bit of a mystery to me. Why hasn't he been a good player in a top league consistently - not settled, psychological? He's massive, quick, talented on the ball, has scored bags of goals for Ukraine and Dynamo. You see him do bits and pieces and think theres a player but he's now 31 and has never amounted to anything outside domestic and international football.

Sweden has us fooled with that in the trenches, park the double.decker performance against Spain. They're actually a really good team capable of great attacking football.

How expensive were they? The Budapest tickets were quite reasonable, I watched our game against France for €30.

To be fair Spain just can make any side into submission.

It’s a day like that(Senegal 02, Holland 04), bar and posts. We will lose in overtime.

Going to be gutted when Sheva inevitably leaves to manage AC. The difference in football since he's been in charge is absolutely ridiculous and there's a really decent group of players there. Not world beaters by any stretch of the imagination but enough to get to major tournaments and do themselves justice when they get there.

The Ukrainian FA absolutely fluked it by going with him as manager and I don't trust them at all to get an appointment right when the time comes.

Nah, aside from a few moments of individual quality from Isak, they showed very little interest in venturing beyond the halfway line

Extra time would be a massive bonus for England here, especially with the heat of Rome to come on Saturday.

Prob just as much to do with the UEFA ticketing system.

I could have bought tickets to the England vs Germany match 5 mins before KO. unfortunately for me, the first time I was able to get them was at 15:30 today, after three days trying.

It’s a disgrace that tickets went unsold to a game that would have sold out twice over of the ticket system worked.

Too busy with their deep-fried Mars bars and Irn Bru.

Just lacking a killer in the box.

I would guess a lot of the reason Sweden look more ambitious and improved is Ukraine's system, they seem to just defend deep with 5 or 6 in the box. That makes it pretty easy to sustain possession and then attacks. Ukraine look kinda lacking in fitness too.

Why Sweden didnt bring Jesper Karlsson is a mystery to me. Best, by far, the best player in Allsvenskan and been mint in Holland. But no, we choose Sebastian Larsson from a midtable team in AIK.

Just lacking a killer in the box.

Scandinavia seem to get one great striker per generation. Sweden got the last one. Norway have got the next one. Denmark patiently await their turn.

Ukraine winning on pens would be ideal for England.
England has probably the most talented team, yet they line up with 5 defenders and 2 holding midfielders. Your coach (I assume you're English) has absolutely no clue.
England might scrape past Sweden or Ukraine, but with tactics like that they won't make it past the semis.

Haha maybe you’re right. But what about Isak!!?

With the same tactical set up, France won the world cup and Portugal won the Euro 16. Ofcourse they didn't play the same formation but both teams relied on defense and counter attacks to win.
