Day 11: England vs Panama, Japan vs Senegal and Poland vs Colombia

Now we know why Smalling isnt in the squad. England would be conceding a dozen pens a game.
Smallings played in games with var and didnt concede a penalty.

Also we already know he isnt in the squad because southgate wants ball playing defenders. We know that because...well because southgate told us.

I really think England are in with a chance in this tournament.

Hard to gauge. Tunisia and Panama are so inferior. Croatia are just one team that would absolutely maul England.

If England finish first they'll probably play Brazil/Germany in the quarters. If England finish second in the group they'll probably play Mexico/Switzerland and have an easier run to the semis on paper.

Obviously it's England and they might feck it up against anyone but the team is looking good and as of now finishing second place in the group would be better. They're fecking up by scoring too many goals today
Doesn't this assume that both Brazil and Germany will win their group? It's not impossible that they might not and then the whole outlook changes. Though we'll know that before the England v Belgium game anyway.

I don't expect us to win it anyway, but I'd love to see a big knockout game against Brazil or Germany. It's what the world cup is all about.

I really think England are in with a chance in this tournament. This is the best I've seen them in a tournament some 96.

Teams that start the tournament sharply tend to fizzle out, it's the ones that scrape through playing pretty badly and find form in the knockouts that tend to win it. Having said that, I think we'll do alright in this Tournament.

Happy for England, but Panama really, really angers me. Not that they're crap, but their whole approach seem to be based around unfair play. Wouldn't surprise me if their sole objective for the second half is to create situations where England players might get sent off.

Mate it’s panama
We’ve played the likes of Trinidad/Algeria and looked awful. This is pretty nice to watch considering England normally flop against rubbish opponents in tournaments.

They said he same thing when they drew Iceland in 2016.
Germany and Brazil aren't playing well, I think Mexico's cutting counters could really trouble England

I really think England are in with a chance in this tournament.
In terms of team cohesion, England have been the best side in the tournament alongside Mexico.

The formula looks very promising right now. Obviously, other teams have better individuals, but Kane is as clinical as any of them. It's a nice balance.

Mad England's biggest world cup win was only 3-0 before today. Shows how underwhelming things have been even in good tournament years.

I hope you guys are taking part in that Auto Trader competition, since you get a chance to win every time England score.

Defence is poor. It will get punished against better teams

So are there any England fans wanting to win by more here?

Biggest positive here is that it's an advertisement for why a 48 team world cup is a terrible, terrible idea.

Mexico have been playing much better opposition.

Panama’s conduct is inexcusable. Embarrassing representation for their nation on the world’s stage.

Agree. Quite frankly they are an embarrassment to their country, you would have to be ashamed if you were from Panama.

Pathetic, unpleasant, cheating team - so pleased we are smashing them.

I know it’s Panama so it’s hard to judge but our movement, passing, and understanding between players has been great. For the first time since a long long while we look like a team instead of a randomly assemelated group of players.
