Day 11: England vs Panama, Japan vs Senegal and Poland vs Colombia

History taught us that England feks it up somehow however they're good.
Spain had never won the World Cup until they did.

History is still being written and this is a different England side with different players, a different manager, and a different system from everything that came before.

Happy for England, but Panama really, really angers me. Not that they're crap, but their whole approach seem to be based around unfair play. Wouldn't surprise me if their sole objective for the second half is to create situations where England players might get sent off.

That's what I'm worried about. Southgate needs to protect Kane and probably Lingard too. Don't forget that shitty elbow Lingard took in the first minute.

In terms of team cohesion, England have been the best side in the tournament alongside Mexico.

The formula looks very promising right now. Obviously, other teams have better individuals, but Kane is as clinical as any of them. It's a nice balance.

England played well but Mexico and especially Croatia have played better teams.

Belgium will be better guide although seems that will be a match to try not to finish top.

Then England in knock outs and we'll see if all the pressure in the past suddenly returns.

They're knocking the ball around well though which is really all I want to see from England teams at major tournaments so can't complain at what I've seen so far.

Panama coach speaking to Southgate there, couldn't fully lip read, but I'm sure it was along the lines of "please show some mercy":p

Did I just see Southgate tell the Panama coach he’ll keep it at 5?

Trippier's range of passing for a full back is pretty impressive. Some of his passes a central midfielder would be proud of.

I understand why some people are hoping England finishes 2nd but ultimately, does it really matter? If they want to achieve anything, they'll have to beat the good teams at one stage anyway. A victory over Belgium would give them a good bit of confidence for the knockout stages.

Don't get me wrong England have played the best I've seen for a very long time. A lot of people are getting sucked in and carried away though, remember we've only played Tunisia and Panama both of which have been crap. The true tests are yet to come.

They're a pointless waste of space
There are a lot of teams, a lot better than Panama that haven't reached the World Cup that will take up the extra spaces. Without smaller teams you wouldn't get stories like Iceland who got to prove on the biggest stage they are not a waste of space.

Iceland came through a much tougher qualifying campaign. CONCACAF is laughable.

Lads, it’s Panama. Hats, a canal and, erm, that’s it.

Nah, only joking, congrats in advance on the World Cup win.

What a clown

Not all about possession football and pointless five yard passes, though.

We saw Spain struggle to score against Iran because players like Isco, Iniesta and Silva all come to the ball.

To hurt teams that camp in their own half, you need to mix up your game, and we have certainly done that so far.

Panama just got good results at home in Concaaf.

I remember them losing 4-0 to USA and they were as bad as they have been today.

Of course US then went and lost to already eliminated Trinidad and Tobago....

Ok if you think that. I think some of you are going ahead of yourselves too soon.

Hardly anyone's getting carried away tbf. Most of the comments are about how well we've played here compared to the shit we've served up in the last few world cups. Nobodys comparing us to Spain 10, Germany 14 or any of the favourites.

Yup, they would have problems against sides like Mexico or Switzerland, nevermind the top dogs. It is a long way, but they look good at the moment

You don't want to be playing them too early though. Look at Portugal in last euros.

Croatia, Poland and Wales in their run to the final and they were sufficently battle hardened to play France.

Would they have got to the final if they'd been in the Spain, Italy, Germany, France half?

A lack of quality, the best teams are meant to be playing in a World Cup, not absolutely no hopers like Panama
Yes, the best teams of all the different federations around fifa. They qualified fairly, they deserve to be here, as hopeless as they are today.

You've not been listening to BBC commentators then. They're talking us up like we're playing one of the big sides.

Belgium vs England will reveal a lot about where both teams stand in this competition.
Don't think it will to be honest.. Martinez has already said he'll be resting most first-teamers, and I'm guessing England will do the same. First real test for both will come in the knockouts.

True, but after years of England being really underwhelming it's nice to be winning 5-0! Got to enjoy it while it lasts, otherwise what's the point!
