Day 10 | Scotland v Hungary | Switzerland v Germany

Was on the Scotland wagon but they've been so drab and shite that it was hard to keep up the goodwill.

Was funny listening to the commentary on Hungarys counter attack for their goal. Proper tongue twister nightmare with their three forwards names.

Sorry for the Scotland supporters here, we wanted you to win - we have some good friends here who are Scottish. We were showing solidarity. :(
It’s ok to laugh at the Scots. They’re good enough sports to take it. They’ll be howling with the rest of the forum when England get dumped out

Just saw the reply of the Armstrong foul, stone wall penalty there.

Stonewall pen that. Some of the shit that gets given and that doesn't?

The English have definitely got it coming in here. They’ll be joining in if it means the end of Southgate

Dire stuff from Scotland. Great support but, man, that was a bloody awful display for a team that should have been fighting to win at all costs.

They just weren't good enough going forward, they defended okay until it was stretched. Wouldn't say they bottled it or didn't try hard enough. Lack of quality, that's their problem, it's not running around or competing, since the Germany game they've shown up and been present in the game but every time they get past the half way line they have a nose bleed. That's about quality not effort.

We’ve been so poor and uninspiring. Deservedly out. Shame we had some of our better players injured, might have been through to the knockouts with them.

Yeah, feel like that argument might have had some legs like 20 years ago but the gulf between teams in England and teams in Scotland is vast.

You can't view it in the prism of what they would do right now if they were in the league, both teams get north of 50k attendances and with PL money they would likely be doing OK in time, but right now they would be decimated by most PL sides

Scotland, Poland and Hungary have been the 3 worst teams, so shame it wasn't a draw

Honest question if you're Scotting. Do the kids over there enjoy passing the ball at all or does everyone just look to put it in the mixer and get physical?
I don’t even know as I don’t follow kid’s football. I think probably. There needs to be a massive reset of our footballing culture. We could be awesome if we pulled our fingers from out of our arseholes.

It's obviously not a penalty. Armstrong just jumps into the defender because he doesn't have the skill to do anything else.

He gets in front to protect the ball. He is completely entitled to do that

3 points and -3 GD will surely not be enough.

Might well be. To not progress it requires two of:
  • Albania beating Spain and/or Croatia beating Italy in Group B.
  • Denmark and/or Slovenia drawing against Serbia and England respectively, or Serbia beating Denmark in Group C.
  • Georgia beating Portugal and/or Czech Republic beating Turkey by less than 2 goals in Group F.

Havertz has been tragic. Basically just hid the entire game, constantly moving into spots where he can’t receive a pass.

Yea he was okay generally but missing those two headers was criminal.

It's a major quandary Nagelsmann will find himself in to pick the striker for the R16 match. Havertz has sh*te finishing but works much better on the ball than Fullkrug would. I suppose we can continue with having Havertz starting, helping us gain control of the match and if we need a goal chuck on Fullkrug.

3 shots on target in 3 games for Scotland. They're just lacking so much quality and threat it's crazy.

Scotland have been atrocious this tournament. Thinking back I’ve their history and the list of great players they’ve produced, it’s really sad (for them) that the current generation is so, so poor. Not a single decent player amongst that lot, outside of Robertson. And his best days are behind him anyway. Gilmour, Mcginn and McTominay are just your run of the mill average PL squad filler. And that’s the heartbeat of their side.

Reckon their performance is on a par with the quality, or lack thereof, the squad.

At least they have an excuse, unlike England when we inevitably go crashing out at the first serious hurdle,

Why do they seem to be always technically the worst? Even when they do well, it's always because they put in a fight and put bodies on the line and somehow hoofed their way to a goal. Is it just how they like the game played or something in the genes or what is it exactly?
Youth football in Scotland is, frankly, fecking shite.

There's only two sides with decent youth development systems in place and it's Celtic and Rangers - and they get enough money to buy just enough English Championship/League One level players to take turns winning the league, so even they don't care much.

Even kids from places outside of Glasgow still support one of those twoz often for reasons other than football (mainly because their parents are cnuts). And because of the lack of competition there's no incentive for other clubs to have youth teams other than for community reasons, but it stops there. If you're a kid and you aren't going to uni or learning a trade then you're basically just going to spend your life sitting on street corners flinging empty bottles of buckfast and being a cnut to society. If you're lucky you'll get a place at your local club for a couple of years playing youth football, either until the money runs out or you're one of the ten folk every year that the two Glasgow teams take an interest in. There's bugger all youth centers or community groups nowadays as well, so that option is also gone. Parks aren't maintained and most people live in concrete shit holes as well. The places with the best football grounds that a re freely available are, ironically, in hoity toity areas where the kids either want to play rugby or shag their farming dad's livestock.

When I was a kid we had tonnes of youth football things to do. There were soccer camps and there were youth regional leagues. Even useless folk like me could find a team to play in. They relied on donations that are no longer there, so the pool is even more limited. It speaks volumes that Scotland's standout talent nowadays is a lad who has trained most of his life at United.

It's possible that no third team in group B,C and F can get to 3 points. I think that neither Albania nor Croatia will win. Group C and F are more ambiguous.
Probably Spain will rotate the team but still difficult for Albania. Regarding Croatia, well, Italy will have to play their best to avoid defeat.

Last 20 mins Hungary did enough and should've wrapped it up sooner. The Scotland pen appeal seemed more desperate and clumsy.

I'm Italian, Spanish, English, and Danish in the next couple of days. It will be confusing.

I believe a League One team would have performed better than Scotland.

Is there not a culture of street football in Scotland ? That's the key for developing technical players
