Because the post I was responding to insinuated that David Moyes was already at a big club challenging for top trophies using their massive top support as proof - and stated it was “bizarre” to even suggest he isn’t suited to managing a big club or challenging for top trophies because he’s already at one doing it. I disagree with this notion…and using their support as the reason for them being a big club is stupid because 18 months ago they were fighting each other in the stands - nobody was praising it - in fact it was a hindrance. As for Rice - there was a debate about him being bang average in that thread before he scored. I was making a general statement about Rice’s obvious quality - his goal and performance in that game should be irrelevant to anyone’s opinion on him at this stage - it was pretty clear to see he’s a very good footballer at least 12 months ago. So we agree on Moyes. On West Ham. And Rice. I also agree with most of what you write about Ole!

Terrible challenge that has completely wrecked their chances. Still not impossible, but very difficult.

Ah come on, when do West Ham ever get this far in the Europa League?
That kind of thing happens often with things falling right for a team to make a run. Even Fulham made it to the final, not long ago. It helps that west ham got off to a good start in the league and didn’t have to punt European games.
He’s kind of like an (inferior) PL Emery, without the same level of European success

Even the league form apparently been top notch, they've barely made a move whem the chance came to make a move in the league when all the other teams around where dropping points.
When he being solid, his reputation and hype seems to grow even stronger.
He's done well with West Ham, even if they lose tonight. Do wonder if he might have reached a peak though, like with his time at Everton and it will just be more of the same from here on out.

Nobody is calling him Klopp or saying he's worthy of a better job. Just that he's got West Ham to a good level when they have been underperforming for decades. They're now a team that's around the European places when they were a bottom half club for quite a bit and it's their first ever deep cup run in a long time.

Seems to be. It’s interesting how he can get two very similar clubs to a similar level but can’t take that next step to actually winning stuff. He’s doing with West Ham almost exactly what he did with Everton. Which is creditable considering how many other managers couldn’t match him at those clubs. But it’s not enough to get him a job at a big club (and never should have been!)

He tried so hard and got so far but in the end it doesn't even matter.
The worst of it is I've zoomed in 3 times and I can't identify if he skims that lads head. Not great from 4 yards.
That's such a disappointing result for him - he was so close to getting rid of two big criticisms of his career by both winning a major trophy and qualifying for the Champions League, neither of which he has managed up until now.
But it doesn't take anything away from the job he has done at West Ham; yes they were dramatically underperforming when he went back there, but he's still got them far higher than could've been expected.

This Europa run sums up his career. No expectations to get past Sevilla or Lyon and he surprises people, then all of a sudden he arguably has the strongest team left in the tournament and falls apart under the weight of expectation.
He's a very good manager and a good fit for West Ham but he has a clear ceiling that won't be cracked, if he gets another huge job it will go exactly the same way it did at United.

And I think their biggest issue is the lack of squad depth, he's been playing the same first XI to try and maintain both a top 4 push and deep Europa run, and because of it they've been running on fumes for quite a while. Antonio when fit and rested is one of the best strikers in the league (in my opinion), but when he's not it takes a lot out of their team.
They badly need to get another good CM or two in, a backup striker, and probably another defender. He's done well with building a very strong first XI but what differentiates the top teams these days from the 5 or 6 teams below them is having a squad full of players that could start any week with no difference in quality.
