Sounds like a Linkedin work description.

Whats he won? To me a very good manager wins trophies. Wheres the plenty to backup as you say?
I don't really want to get into semantics around the words "very good" because it's a frankly boring discussion, but needless to say he's had very good stints at Everton, West Ham and even Preston, and had them achieving good outcomes relative to resources over sustained periods. I don't believe it's all about trophies because there are only 4 to win and with the way football is they are going to be heavily biased towards big clubs.

He's had failures and notably appeared to fail at the next level so I'm not saying he's a top manager, but I'd say the sum total of his career would be that he's a good manager, very good, however you want to say it that does not upset your sensibilities.

I respect your view, but I think we will have to agree to disagree.
I think he is an average manager who after 11 years at Everton the best he got was a top 4 place one season. That has been the pinnacle of his success. He took the job at Utd, with a league champions side and staff, scrapped the staff and somehow turned a lot of the players to shit, with his brand of football. If he hadnt have been so big headed, kept the staff on and planned to gradually replace them over his 6 years, I think we could have still been top 4 at least that season and would have had at least another season as the Utd gaffer.

...he inherited a Premier League winning squad and turned it into a boring 7th place team, just like Everton.

I can't find it now but I swear I remember him at the time saying something to the effect of "well, I finished 7th with Everton last year too so it's not like I performed any worse"

I'm a lot more optimistic than my fellow Caf members about City's chances of winning the league after today but if he had beaten them today wouldn't that have been pure fecking Moyes? I swear that guy is a curse sent from hell to aid Liverpool and feck up United at every chance he gets. I mean he never wins a trophy but you can always rely on him to ruin other people's trophy/title chases:
  • Plays Liverpool 500 times over the years and wins, at best, 3 or 4 games
  • Stops United's Quadruple hopes in 2009 by influencing the referee in the FA cup semi-final which denies us a stonewall pen. Naturally goes on to LOSE the final against Chelsea
  • Stops United winning the league in 2012
  • In 2013 BECOMES United manager in an ungodly act of club mismanagement and sends us to our worst finish in the Premier league era
  • In 2022 almost hands Liverpool the league by beating City.

The guy is just a troll sent to harm us at this point

He gets credit for the admirable job he’s done at West Ham, but the way they got knocked out of the Europa, couldn’t get past a truly terrible United side, and continue to lose matches against the better sides without putting up much of a fight is still evidence that Moyes is something of a loser. Inherent negativity.

It's what makes him very good, but not elite manager. Perfect for Evertons and West Hams of PL.

But despite how shit we were, WHU have had a pretty good season. The gap between us and them is huge on paper, and as shit as we were, the gap in absolute terms is not something that can be overcome that easily

23 points from their first 11 games.

33 points from the other 27.

Outside bet for relegation next year.

Weirdly, getting into the conference league might actually be good for him and it might be a winnable trophy.

Let's be honest he massively overperformed with an average squad. 2 years ago they barely escaped relegation thanks to 8 points from their final 4 games.

Should try to get Rice in January if they are still doing poorly at that time.

The recent comments from Moyes sounds like he's already feeling the pressure. He should drop Soucek for Downes despite what he's said.

There is another article about Moyes in the Guardian and not flattering at all.

Some love to champion his work, and he has had a good few seasons as West Ham, but he was always limited tactically. People also jump to excuse him of two real disasters at United and Sunderland, for no real reason.

He is limited and cuts an uninspiring figure, even at the best of times. He is also far too quick to give himself credit while absolving himself of all blame when things go wrong.

And yet he used multiple formations to flummox Gerrard and get their season up and running today. With Paqueta they are going to be a dangerous side. It’s a transition season but they have all the ingredients to have a long European run and a good season once again.

I don’t know if I would be championing flummoxing poor Stevie G as a massive win at the moment. He looks hapless, and I was actually impressed with his work at Rangers, but it looks to have been built on the quality of his players and being able to build a side used to winning in an inferior league.

I still think Moyes is average and his failures are ignored by his biggest supporters. It might well be a transition, but their form has been poor for quite some time now and he has brought in players that don’t fit the teams profile.

Form is only poor if you exclude the Europa League. Thursday night football is always a big drain on teams with smaller squads.
