David Moyes Unemployed | European Champion

Sociedad regularly beat Barca during that period.
What difference does that make? Still beat literally the best team in the world!

Fact is, Moyes discovered when he was there that the way things are run in Spain is very different. He was just a coach whereas he was used to being a manager. They found it bizarre, for example, that Moyes would go and scout players and make signing recommendations.

They did but if that team regularly beat Barca during that period before Moyes arrived and after he left then they didn't beat them because of Moyes.

From what I heard Moyes spent most of his free time scouting local restaurants.

He is still at it. Commenting on what he should have done when he came to United.

I think it's high time the media stopped asking him about his time at Manchester United. It's nearly 8 years since they sacked him. It's time the media moved on and then over time Moyes himself might finally move on.

Oh really, Dave? The benefit of hindsight has allowed you to see that gutting our staff and replacing them all with his own wasn’t the smartest way to start your United tenure?

Absolute fecking plank.

Feel like he’s re established himself as the manager everyone says deserves a go at a top club but no one wants at their club

Would it be controversial to suggest that if we had backed him and signed players like Thiago or Kroos he might have steered us to a top 4 finish every season? It matters not though because this club needs to be in contention for major trophies and Moyes will never be good enough for that. I really don't understand why we only gave him Fellaini in his first transfer window though, we set him up for failure.

We were allegedly close to having Thiago wrapped up prior to Moyes joining, but Moyes himself vetoed it.

Giving him more time wont.

But old guards giving him the benefit of doubt might.

It's clear they dont respect him and doesnt want him

He's a better manager for his Sociedad and United failures as much as he is for his Everton role. Despite how well he did with us he had it comfortable. He needed those bumpy rides to get to where he is with West Ham now.

Name on the trophy?

From 16th place and barely avoiding relegation 20 months ago to this is quite remarkable.

It is interesting if he ever could have got us performing to peak level.

I feel he probably not better without big egos and names. Also does better with an underdog.

He's got a ceiling but he's undoubtedly the best of the rest in the PL. Would quite like him to win a trophy, despite his failings with us I don't hold any ill will toward him.

Give him Pep's transfer budget and he'd win it all.

I do not think he would do better with bigger names as we did see for us.

I do hower think the expectations was what killed him for us. After our early poor results vs Liverpool and City he could not recover.

We did better in Europe under him than in the league.

I'd be well chuffed for him if he continues to do well and gets another shot at managing a big club. I think Silent Witness is right, he didn't have enough experience under his belt when he took the United job. Some people need to go through failure in order to better themselves and achieve success.

Now there's no ridiculous Ferguson legacy hanging over him could he make a decent Utd manager?

How could anybody hold any ill will towards him? He's always come across as a decent guy. He made mistakes at United and the job was obviously too big for him at the time but he's still a good manager. I'm glad to see he's got his career back on track.

He isn’t suited to a big club. West Ham are a very good counter attacking team. You need be more at big clubs to win stuff nowadays as we saw under Ole.

Fair play to David Moyes he’s doing a great job with West Ham. He’s got them top 6 in the league and they have a good chance of winning the Europa league as well. It’s a great opportunity for Moyes to win a trophy.

What a bizarre point. West Ham have a massive support. If anything, he could be the guy that finally unlocks their massive potential. Absolutely crushed Lyon, who have a top European pedigree.

His failure would always go against him. He might be able to improve our def and midfield though with coaching.
We have many Moyes type players like Fred, Mctominay etc. A hard working forward over Ronaldo and a Bowen to us could work though.

Eh? The post I replied to said he hoped he got a big job again. Ergo bigger than West Ham. His style doesn’t suit a club chasing the top honours. It isn’t a bizarre point at all.

Yes it is. Europa League is top honours. Bigger than any of the domestic cups.

Contender for manager of the season if west ham win the EL?

Right. Firstly West Ham aren’t a club that are expected to compete for top honours. The fact they are is testament to the job he’s done. If I remember correctly that massive support were fighting each other in the stands when he took over. Secondly, “I hope he gets the chance at a big club again” - the again here means a big club like Manchester United. He isn’t suited to a job of that type. And a big club of that type are expected to challenge for CLs and league titles. And you don’t do that playing reactive counter attacking football. It’s very simple.

Its funny. I remember many years where we were not challenging for league titles but that all seems forgotten nowadays. You aren't entitled to anything in football.

I think it should be mentioned Lyon are 10th in the French league, isn’t as big a win as you would be lead to believe.

What an amazing season for West Ham, and for Moyes personally: finally winning a big trophy, and finally getting a team of his into the Champions League - two very big criticisms off his back if they see this through.

They got past Seville in the previous round, who are these tournament kings. Great achievement.
