David Moyes | Everton Manager

always liked Everton and I always liked Moyes. I hope this move is successful for both.

*Europa Conference League (not the actual Europa League) but still undeniably impressive for a club of West Ham's stature.

I expected Everton to survive the drop anyway despite being in truly awful form for so long, and this appointment just strengthens that expectation. Boring and limited choice, but not every team can be challenging for Champions League spots; this is perfect for the present Everton.

Yes you're right, conference league not Europa league!

I wouldn't rule Everton out of the relegation fight just yet. They can't score goals and Moyes isn't known as an attacking coach so is he going to get them scoring? They will be organised and hard to beat etc but Ipswich will be a danger for them because they do have goals in their team.

Who's going to scuttle his daughter this time

Legendary.

Props to the guy for never taking it down, and also it's not bad for a spontaneous thing in all honesty. Then again, I'm drinking tonight, my judgement might not be the best.

Very interesting that they're giving him a 2.5 year contract. IMO it seems to heavily imply they see this as a sort of transition job.

Well there was talk of him taking it just to the end of the season. Big upgrade on that, wouldn't have thought it was that appealing if that's all it was.
First transfer is obvious.

Illarramendi is a free agent. He managed him before, and is the only Scotsman who can say his name beautifully.

More seriously, he loves those midfielders that can score headers doesn't he? Cahill, Fellaini, Soucek. Anyone like knocking around these days?

I know we’re having a tough time at the moment but I’m so glad the Moyes era is behind us.

I’ll always remember that cringy celebration against West Ham(?) where he did the slow fist pump while roaring at the fans. I don’t even think we were in front at the time either.

Moyes statistically is a 7th place manager. It will be interesting if this holds true with this team. This is a case where it will be an improvement.

Pretty good presser and interviews. He will definitely get the fans on side more than Dyche was able to. Apparently he could have rejoined three or four times before now. Sounds like whenever we sacked someone we rang him up and asked him if he'd like to come back!

24/25 - keeps them up
25/26 - finishes midtable
26/27 - finished around 8th place

Can see this happening and then either he stays for another year or two or just leaves when his contract expires.

His appointment was a strange one. To me, he is very similar to Dyche without the nous to grind out scrappy draws against the odds.

It’s January, Everton are shite and David Moyes is the manager. Surely force of habit will kick in over the next few days and we will see Moyes try to sign Landon Donovan on loan for the next six months.

David Moyes is a better manager than Sean Dyche.

The appointment was an easy one to make. He's a sure thing for keeping them up.

Dyche probably couldn't have done what Moyes did with West Ham. But with these group of players? Dyche would be just as likely to keep them up in my opinion considering the poor quality of the teams below Everton.

The team is having to learn to play football again after 2 years of Sean Dyche.

I predict Ipswich will run out of steam and Everton will stay up at their expense in the end. But my god, they're bad.

Moyes is a far better manager than Dyche. We might still get relegated but Dyche was walking us into it and was indifferent about it. Would turn up each week not trying to win games and just coasting through it at the end. Moyes is quite clearly fuming at how shite we are currently.
That’s right, hold on to that hope.
:(

I dunno, I think they're in trouble this season. This could be the year they go down. Wolves and Ipswich are showing signs of life at least, Everton are showing nothing!

If you look at when he took over West Ham in January 2020 I think he won his first game but then West Ham didn't win for another 5-6.

What saved them was signing that window Soucek and Bowen as it gave them fresh impetus in the final third.

Everton badly need 2-3 signings this window of that quality. Ndiaye is talented but he can't win games on his own, McNeil with his directness has actually been a miss.

I think they're finally going down this season. Ipswich are improving most weeks and Delap will be a difference maker in some of their six pointers. Wolves seem to be having a similar run of fixtures to the start of the season with playing all top 8 in a row but I assume they've then got a decent last two months of games against bottom half so can see them winning 3-4 in the run in.

Not just McNeil, but we miss Garner and Timmy too. They provide either energy or technical ability that we are sorely lacking. Agree though that we also need 2 or 3 signings. Not only to inject some quality but to just lift the squad in general.

DCL will need to learn to score goals again. Missed great chances today

This is why I said Moyes should hire Wayne Rooney as one of his coaches, DCL would benifit greatly from working with him.

I hope the Friedkins allow Moyes to sign a couple of players this month as well as his current squad is lacking in some areas

If it were me I'd get rid now and try to bring in another striker. They can't be any worse than what DCL has offered this season. He's completely checked out of the club.
