David De Gea

Why o why is everyone so easily manipulated by the media/agents here? Has all critical thought left the site? The CAF used to be filled with smart people. This emanated from the Sun for crying out loud

This is all agent/tabloid BS. Madrid is not buying a goalkeeper this offseason. They'v been conservative as feck in the transfer market. And Zidane/Perez are convinced they can have another run at a double with the current squad and want to keep them happy. Navas is immensely popular in the dressing room, and bringing in someone to replace him would rock the boat massively.

Also he's a very good goalkeeper.

He played in Portugal and by all accounts, he did very well there. Yes, in an ideal world, we'd bring in a keeper with lots of experience but we've done that before and it has not always worked.

Also, when will Joel by ready for us? We will never know the answer to that question, until he actually plays.
How much did he play in Portugal? Was he first choice for someone for the duration of a season?

I appreciate he needs to gain that experience and it can be a catch 22 but the way to do it isnt to throw him in at the deep end, which is what it could potentially be, being second keeper. As I said, one injury away from being in that situation. He just isnt ready. Give him League Cup games this season, throw in a dead rubber CL game or two if we wrap the group up early, the normal things you do when you are bringing young players through.

As I said I dont know exactly what experience he had in Portugal, maybe Im underestimating it and he is further along in his development than I realise. In which case fine. Either way Mourinho will know whether he is ready. As I said, Mourinho is not a natural risk taker so if he thought he was ready to be second keeper, and therefore possibly de facto first keeper for months, in a make-or-break year, in which he has to have his sights set on maintaining his record of winning the league in his second season, then chances are he is ready. My guess is Mourinho wouldnt feel he is ready.

I'd swap De Gea for Bale in a heartbeat. If (I'm aware it's becoming a big if) we keep him fit, we win the league next season. De Gea is never going to have that impact for us.

Why what did he do?
No idea, but there have been rumors of him and Perez not being friends anymore. Also, we've been getting rid of all his clients these last couple years, Cristiano is the only Mendes guy still with us

Do you have any idea how many points DDG saved us over the course of the season during his three year stint as player of the year? We would have finished a lot worse than 7th, 5th and 4th if it wasnt for him.

JUST A GOALKEEPER??? Attack wins games, Defense wins leagues. Goalkeepers are a vital part of this
They are not quite as important as a world class striker imo. And I was referring mainly to the price. GKs still go for less money. Even in this market City just got a top GK for "only" 33m, so why would DDG go for more than twice that?

In any case, I really hope we don't sell, especially to those pricks at RM.

Well Ederson is not in the same level as De Gea, hasn't really achieved anywhere near as much either and doesn't play for the richest club in the world that doesn't want to sell one of its best players. And yet, Ederson still cost £35m. If you are comparing De Gea to Ederson, De Gea should be valued at about £75m.

Is there a single reliable source reporting that DDG will actually be sold this summer? What's everyone getting so worked up over?

He's a great player but this yearly DDG to RMadrid speculation (and him not quickly dampening it) is becoming really tedious now. He clearly wants to go there one day (surprising for me, thought he was A.Madrid chap), just get rid if so IMHO.

In this crazy market Dortmund signed Dembele for just 15 Million, why should anyone pay more than double for any winger?

Multiple sources = probably a briefing from somewhere (club, DDG agent, etc). No smoke without fire.

Yes, he was first choice.

But going back to my original point, Romero would be more than able. There were games at the end of the PL season last year, where Mourinho left DDG out, as he felt he wasn't focused. I think Jose would rather get rid of such a player, as it's almost no point having him there, if they're not focused.

Can we just sell him already? Jesus. Madrid just put in an offer so we can just drop him off at the 49er stadium.

Because he's given us plenty of time and he wants to leave. If he didn't want to leave, then of course, I'd want him to stay. But if he wants to leave, let him go. For me, we have good back ups. Jose seems to be very confident about Joel P as well.
Every single report has noted he's not pushing for a move.

The same reports also say he would like a move. Like I have posted above, Jose left out DDG as he wasn't fully focused. We all know why that is. For me, if you're not focused and don't really want to be here, go. He's been very good for us. He doesn't owe us anything and we don't owe him anything.

When did this happen. Jose never said he wasn't fully focused.
As long as he isn't pushing for a move, we shouldn't sell, Period.
There are tons of top players who would like a move to Madrid.

Hopefully Woodward will look at it differently. After all, if we had a player who developed into the best in the world - say Martial kicked on and had a Ronaldo-esque couple of seasons - Madrid would end up wanting him. And if Madrid really wanted him the chances are he would be quite receptive to that because, you know, players like playing for Madrid. Do we just capitulate on every world class player we ever have because Madrid decide they want them and they would love to have the opportunity? Does Levy give up whenever a bigger club come calling for his players because they would probably quite like to play for Man United or Chelsea or another club with a better chance of winning the league? No, he fights tooth and nail and if they go they go on his terms. That's how we should be approaching it as well. Players wont always feel that playing for United is the absolute pinnacle of their football ambitions, as much as we might like to kid ourselves that they do, but it doesnt mean we shouldnt do all we can to keep them for as long as we can when we have them.

Hes well worth the 75m quoted, especially to Real Madrid. If they value Morata at 70m then surely we need more for DDG who is a first team regular and an actual World class talent. Dont think this will happen though, dont think Madrid have the money to spend this season.

Two fold...we have to be winning the major titles for players wanting to stay. Also, when we buy foreign players, from Spanish and French speaking countries, they're always more likely be wanting to play for the likes of Real/Barca.

So, we need to start pushing/winning the major trophies and focus our efforts on buying/producing British players. Look at when Saf was here, we never had many players wanting to leave. 9/10, it was always when SAF wanted them to go.

How many did we have that Real really wanted? The only one they were desperate for went.

I agree winning will give them more incentive to stay but like I said Levy is the example, Spurs arent winning shit but they dont just hand over their players because they feel worn down by the constant speculation linking their best players with moves away. (Neither do we, to be fair, but this is what Im saying, we should keep it that way.)

If Madrid value Morata at 70m, DDG should be about 120m and If I recall correct Madrid didn't even want to sell us Morata for 70m so we aren't selling DDG for 120m either.

They can go feck themselves. If they really wanted DDG there was some room for fair negotiations as we were obviously interested in Morata and I think also James. But if they are total dicks about those moves than really feck them we aren't selling DDG. If they want him he will be out of contract in 3 years time. If they want him now, pay us more than 120m and we might let him go.

I think this is all part of Madrid's general strategy as well to be honest: a relentless drip-drip of media speculation saying Player X will end up at Madrid, over a period of years if necessary, until clubs relent for the sake of some peace and quiet. If you keep repeating a lie often enough people will end up believing it - and if you say something is inevitable often enough it becomes a self fulfilling prophecy.

sneaky feeling it'll be straight swap for you know who.

Scored 118 goals for us.

These latest rumors are either Real Madrid are trying to unsettle him as payback for Morata, or someone at United is trying to get rid of De Gea. He has not kicked up a fuss about the transfer unlike so many other players.

After the whole Morata saga, they can do one. Demanding a hefty chunk for a squad player, and then making a derisive bid for de Gea? Hope the Bernabeu collapses on Perez's nutsack.

even one of those glancing blows that don't connect properly but sometimes hurt even more will do

They're not thick. They only push for players that they know who want to come to them. Over the SAF reign, are you saying that Real wouldn't have wanted any of the players we had, other than the ones we sold to them?

I never said that we are feeling worn by them. We kept him for how long? If it was just Real wanted him and DDG didn't want to go, this would be nipped in the bud asap. The fact that he nearly went there, shows he would be open to go and we nearly sold him then.

Oh nobody is disputing that in an ideal world De Gea would rather go to Madrid. And I also agree that the likes of Giggs and Scholes wouldnt have their heads turned as easily by Madrid.

I also know youre not saying we are feeling worn down by Madrid, but that is still how i interpret your position to be honest. Of course I dont know you from a bar of soap so I could easily be wrong. But it feels like the relentless drip-drip of propaganda that he will eventually be at Madrid has convinced you and some others that we might as well just get it over and done with. This idea that it is a distraction and De Gea wont be as good because his head is in Madrid, I dont think its true but I think its what Madrid want us to think so that we relent and hand him over. But if we dont sell him he will do his job and be as brilliant as ever for us, just like if Levy refuses to hand over Dier to us he will still do his job and be good for them.

Ultimately if De Gea wants to go to Madrid badly enough he will make it happen. Our job is to do everything we can to encourage him to stay, and if not to get the best deal out of it we can. But we shouldnt capitulate and accept it as an inevitability, or swallow the lie that this is all a distraction and selling him is somehow in our interest, because a distracted keeper is worse than no keeper.

Your point is fair but I don't think that was the case last season. Whether people believe it or not, we have and continue to progress as a team (6th place means jack tbh) and I don't think we are as reliant on De Gea as we were in seasons gone where I agree he was deservedly POTY. Mournho has a solid defence built and solid midfield and that means we are extremely hard to beat right now (as shown by our cup victories).

What we need is that cherry on top player, that can guarantee, performance and big goals week after week and I've always believed Bale to be that exact kind of player. He would tear up the league (if he stays fit) and when combined with Mkhitatyan, Lukaku, Rashford, can easily fire us to the title. For this point in the teams development he would have a bigger impact than De Gea, even tho it pains me to see such a world class player go. Think too many people are letting sentiment towards De Gea and resent towards Madrid sway a deal that would be far more valuable to us as a club.

I completely agree with this!

I know he is a fan favorite, but I have never liked him since the failed fax machine incident. Wanting to move to a more successful club (at the moment) is not a crime, but trying to leave on a free as he did, when the club stood by you, is in my opinion a low blow I won't forgive. If he had signed a contract with a reasonable release clause, I wouldn't have grudged him his desire. As it is, he only signed a new contract when the move didn't happen and he didn't want to be stuck on the bench with the Euros looming.

And let's not continue to believe he wants to move only for his gf. The reason he wants a move to Real and not Atletico then is purely a sporting decision, he feels they are more successful. Fair enough.

He made a fair few mistakes last season too and is no longer indispensible in Mourinho's system. Cash + Casemiro or Morata would be a perfect deal.

You dont think Fergie had a great defense with Neville, Rio, Vidic and Evra? Did we really need VDS behind them? And before that when we had Schmeichel? Its true they wont be called upon as often as before but for that one moment where the defense has a lapse in concentration, you need someone like a VDS or DDG for their reflexes and quick thinking not Romero. DDG has been tested and proven. Romero has not even though the cafe thinks he is great. He would have been shown the door if he was the #1 keeper during LVGs reign when our defense was so shit.

FFS. Fans make such a big deal with this whole contract situation. Did DDG once come and out he wanted to move? He never said or did anything disloyal to United. Even when he was dropped he didnt say anything. Sure he might want to move back to Madrid one day but not liking him over something he didnt really do is just bonkers. At least Rooney made some noise about not having a good team and wanting to move to Chelsea/City. You're talking as if he pulled a Donnaruma.

He wasnt going to move on a free, we were going to get £29m for him in that deal. When it collapsed he went into the last year of his contract and there was a risk we would lose him for free the following summer, at which point he signed another contract, thus protecting Manchester United. He didnt do anything wrong at all IMO.
