David De Gea

Ballbag is hinting that it is United that are slowly pushing him out to leave.

What bollocks

If that was the case all De Gea would have to do is publicly announce that he wants to stay atleast that way we know where everyone stands

I hate how he acts as if he's best mates with all the club presidents and players, I bet they can't stand him. Story about him crying when Man Utd were buying Pogba and not RM was funny though.

"Aggrieved" so we should just dump the guy who has been playing well all tournament?

Shades of what happened with LvG here.

Clearly something not quite right but for lightening to strike twice with two different managers you have to wonder what's going on behind the scenes and if De Gea is causing issues.

Mourinho has made it clear he wants players who want to play for the club. If De Gea doesn't and is causing disruption then send him on his way.

Jack Butland.

Last time Real tried to get him they failed.

No way Woody is bending over for them this summer...if DDG goes it will be an absolutely massive fee and knowing Woody he will get a few extra players off them as well!

That tweet makes no sense at all. If De Gea is happy to stay then selling him would be yet another dark stain on our already shitty transfer policy. £65mil is nothing for De Gea.

Think it's more likely that the club are trying to save face by not making it look like we're having our best player taken off us by Madrid again against our will.

DDG may be world class, but at the end of the day he’s just the GK. Selling him could have a greater impact than keeping him.

To win matches you need to score more goals than your opponents and that’s been our problem this season and the previous couple, whether due to tactics or the inability of the players. Based on that and if DDG leaves, then I think that Mourinho should use that money to invest in outfield players and use Romero as first choice with Pereira as his back up. JM seems to rate Pereira highly, so why not let him be back up and play league cup/easier games?

If we assume that Romero is a 10 goal a season worse GK than DDG and RM pay the money we want, we could improve the outfield by more than 10 goals and we would be in a better position going forward. Let Romero have a season and if it turns out he’s worse than expected, then go and get a new GK then next season.

There definitely is something amiss here. I would expect DDG to start the final if he is committed to staying. If Mourinho has said that Romero will play in the final, I would take that as a bad sign, and that DDG has made his intention to leave clear.

Why else would you leave your best keeper out, in a one off, must win game? It makes no sense with what is at stake for winning the Europa.

The better the team overall, the less of a loss the GK is. This being said, if we ever want to compete at the highest level the GK should be one of the best in the world too. This means that we have a few more years to look for a good replacement.

If he wants to leave, we should just sell and save ourselves the summer distraction. We just need to fleece Madrid as much as possible.

Really don't want him to leave. I genuinely think that he's become the best keeper in the world, and I'd hate to see one of our best players in his best years leave for that fecking club again.

He's become one of those players that gives you confidence whenever you read his name in the starting lineup, just like it was with VDS. PIG, Foster, Lindegaard, Johnstone and even Romero made me anxious whenever I read their name in the lineups, and I don't want to go through it again. It's a very stupid point but it's important to me.

And even if we sell him, who can we realistically buy to replace him? Whoever we sign, unless it's Neuer, will be a downgrade from De Gea.

I always got the sense that he'd like to go to Madrid, but if a move never materialized he'd be completely fine staying here.

That is until something happened and him not starting the final will probably be that something happened. It's a slap in the face to the guy whose been our best player since Fergie left and now we're in the biggest game we've had in years and he's not playing because it's not fair to a goalkeeper who came here knowing full well his role is a backup to one of the worlds best.

To all those saying "it's just a goal keeper", why did we need to sign Van der Sar? Howard was a decent.

I was all for Romero starting but that back 4 last match changed my mind. We are going to have moments in that game where it's mass panicky and a reflex save is needed. David needs to play.

Yes if he drops him and De Gea plays shit everyone will cry but if Dea Gea doesn't play and Romero does shit he is always screwed.

when both options leave you in the shit, use your head, pick the best keeper in the world. It makes sense.

You're the one who's bringing up claims without substance (Madrid will not match his salary, yeah right) I just provided you with facts that 3 years ago they were paying a keeper close to that amount. Him being captain is irrelevant for someone like Perez. If he sees a toy he likes, salary won't be the issue. He also will want to make good for his fax bungle.

The key in all of this is how much Woodie and Mourinho demand in return. If they go for double the record for a keeper, then he'll back off. But salary won't be the issue. They pay plenty in Madrid.

What is this if not conjecture?

Firstly, 165k is not close to 200k. Also, they don't pay high for keepers else they would have just paid up and taken DDG. They wanted a cut price deal for a Spanish young keeper who is doing well. That's it. Don't try to make it sound like a Galactico signing where the fans and their former players are all giving interviews trying to tap DDG up and RM are willing to throw money at us.

We will know very soon though what's going to happen.

Think this might be the summer he goes. He's given us excellent service and if he does go I'm pretty sure no one will hold any grudges towards him. It'd be great if Jose can convince him to stay another season and we can win the premier league next season to cap off the wonderful service he has given us.

I'm with you on this, especially in the final! Just doesn't make sense dropping your best players for a match that will define whether we make CL or not. Doesn't matter if he's off or not. Don't remember Fergi dropping Ronaldo when we all knew he was off to Madrid and see no reason we should be dropping David now.

To all those saying "it's just a goal keeper", why did we need to sign Van der Sar? Howard was a decent.
Howard was pretty rubbish TBH and VDS was a massive upgrade that cost the club couple of million pound. Even the best replacements to DDG would be below his level and then you'd have to fork out a substantial part of the money to bring in a keeper with no EPL experience who may or may not be better than Romero. I think it's totally worth the gamble to at least give the guy who has been around the club and knows the players a shot for a season before making a decision. That money would be better spent elsewhere.

Sad to say it but this looks to be it. Can't believe it's been 6 years since we saw him roll in for a medical behind a white sheet. :(

It somehow looks like we all have reconciled to him leaving this summer. The one truly world class player we have is leaving :(

Strange one. Lots of speculation, but there's been lots of speculation for about 3 years. Nothing concrete at all as ever, but many people seem to think he's gone.

If he does, then thanks for the memories, and lets move on. He will cost a lot more than Madrid tried to pay last time, hopefully a bigger transfer fee can help pay for a nice new fax machine.

It's obvious I would prefer to have a world class goalkeeper in our goal, but this season is the 1 season he's been needed the least. He hasn't been dragging us through games like he was under Moyes and LVG and even Fergie to an extent. Mourinho has our defence very well drilled and losing a world class goalkeeper may cost us much less points wise than it would under Moyes or LVG. I can't remember which season it was but he literally saved us about 15-18 points.

It's insane you have the best keeper in the world and treat him like a reserve for the last month of the season. Our best player for the past 4 years and one of our only world class players treated like some cast-off.

It kinda weird for me to see that people seems okay that we're going to loose one of the best player in the world.

I think it's simply a case of the writing being on the wall.

let's see but if he's going, it won't be on the cheap plus I hope there's a new defence in front of the new keeper which means he won't be that busy....20m + DDG for Bale would be nice.

David de gea for Bale? I think this rumour will start very soon.
I'd only do that deal if we were 100% convinced Bale could recapture the form he showed for Spurs and his first few seasons for Real. As a lot have said on here, a lot of his injuries have been muscular and have occured quite frequently over the past 2 seasons. The previous rumours that Perez wanted Bale to be his superstar after Ronaldo have seemed to have simmered down too.

Hard to believe that Atletico have had De Gea, Courtois and then Oblak in such a short space of time. Probably 3 of the top 5 keepers in the world at present.
Good point. We should just ask Atletico who they'd hypothetically replace Oblak with and save ourselves a load of money

I don't understand why people are so keen on Bale. Maybe that's just me not being a big fan of him, but with all his injuries on top all I can see is that being a big let down. Not that I think it'll happen.

I am just sad we have been so shit that we couldn´t offer him a place where he could push for football biggest honors regularly. Would understand him leaving but don´t want him to leave.

I think way too much is made out of "he is dropped from the Southampton game",

If the plan is to play Romero in the finals then it makes sense to play him against Southampton to keep him sharp for the finals. Also last game doesn't matter, so why not give one of the youngster a chance who had to cut shot his loan deal.

Lies, it's normal for tweets like this to pop up because he will not play EL final. Mourinho explained to both of them way before we got to the final that Romero will be the keeper if we get there. Aggrieved my foot.

Mourinho had said Romero will play one game before the finals to keep all the players in good condition. It's only logical for him to play today instead of Sunday.

Correct me if I'm wrong as I haven't followed the entire discussion but weren't you the one who claimed that they wouldn't pay top wage for a GK? When you make a claim like that, the burden of proof lies with you. You can't just say that and then ask the other guy to produce stats to prove you wrong.
