Expect him to be the best in the world within four years...

No one's really reported that he's signed, just that all parties have agreed. I'd imagine he's over-playing his hand of trying not to piss off the supporters. I don't think there's any chance of United getting to the point where Sir Alex is talking about him by name without being absolutely sure that Atletico and the player are keen on the move.

For now, I'm assuming that the old agent / new agent problem hasn't been resolved and he's just sticking to the facts. The statement has been made by his lawyers.

There will some memorandum of understanding signed between all three parties.

Bugger...Ginger Prince will never shift those De Gea shirts now...

What's going on?

Atletico Madrid goalkeeper, David de Gea, is said to have undertaken his first medical examination in Manchester today, ahead of his proposed move to the Premier League champions. A source at Bridgewater Hospital in Manchester, where players have their medicals, informed FUB that it was due to take place around 12pm this afternoon. Sir Alex Ferguson admitted last night of his intent to sign the 20 year old Spaniard and it appears that he is not waiting until the end of the season to get his man. So far there has been no official announcement from the club today.

The denial probably has something to do with him switching agents, Ballague said Utd want to announce the deal on Monday but that's unlikely to happen until he changes to Mendes. I'm certain this will be officially completed soon.

actually good call, if it was taken that everything was sorted now then I guess he'd be open to a claim from his current/ex agent.

Surely Fergie wouldn't have announced it unless it was a done deal?

I think it's fairly obvious that Fergie wanted to wait until Monday to announce it but by announcing it earlier as someone else said, he's shifting the attention off the Giggs' saga slightly.

fecks sake, this could get a bit messy. As someone already said, it's shaping up a lot like the Ramsey deal did.

Do you really see anyone else willing to spend £17million on a keeper to snatch him from our reach?

As far as I'm concerned its only us and Arsenal as being the two big teams in Europe looking for a keeper, and something tells me Wenger isn't going to go close to smashing his transfer record on a keeper.

Worst comes to worst the deal breaks down, he stays at Athletico, and we go for another keeper, someone probably more experienced. No biggie. But I'm 99% sure he's ours now anyway.

You probably have a point but the situation looks very odd - we've announced the signing, but the player and the other club claim to have no knowledge of any deal. Time will tell, but the whole thing is a bit of a shambles right now.

De Gea says his transfer to #mufc is not true (via @ligabbva). Player's lawyer to spanish press agency Efe: no deal. ow.ly/538ux”

:nervous:

As already mentioned here, it's probably to do with his transition to a new agent. As for De Gea himself - well, he'd promised that he'd announce his future on June 30th, so his silence or pseudo-denial could be him just keeping his word. I don't think Athletico fans would appreciate him parading himself around as a United player over a month before the transfer window opens.

Happy to hear David de Gea is joined us.

Does anyone know what is VDS planning to do after his last game.... it would be good if he can guide de Gea in the coming months before the start of next season.

De Gea further says he won't consider his future until after Euro U-21

I don't get why people are so eager to get silly season going before the one we're in's even finished, especially with a prize ahead of us like on saturday. I'd have lost my hair and mind years ago had I kept banging my head against speculative articles.

Fergie's been planning for ages and is confident... Personally I'd rather just hold my hands up and say "Fergie'll get it right", and wait for the actual news, in its own good time.

People are putting words in SAF's mouth, all he said was De Gea was kinda like VDS. He did not say he signed De Gea.

Ok.. this is looking kinda nervous now. Not like Fergie to mention a players name unless its an absolute certainty.

...or a smokescreen, perhaps?

He said a bit more then that:

"We've been working on it for quite a while. We identified him quite a while back as one we should go for," Ferguson told Sky Sports News.

"He's a young goalkeeper, very quick, good composure, presence and an outstanding replacement for Van der Sar."

Nothing like Ramsey, in that deal we only said we had agreed a fee with his club which was 100% correct he just opted for another club, it is a myth that we said we had signed him it that was just posters on Redcafe who was claiming that.

Plausible but unprofessional. Doubt Fergie'd resort to something like that, getting a player who's not been in talks with the club, is only 20, plays in a foreign league and tries to put the spotlight on him , by making a false transfer story to save Giggs from getting media attention. Reading that back, it just doesn't seem likely.

He probably saw us all perving at his girlfriend and changed his mind.

This, actually.
