This will be his biggest challenge. He wont need to make half as many saves as he has with atletico. Concentration will be key. If he can handle being untested for long periods he will make it because his talent is not in question

Yep, I agree. Although he only made 1 save against Villareal according to ESPN (technically he made two, an excellent save from Nilmar across goal that was just offside) and he had a quiet game then, probably touching the ball just over 10 times. I think it gave a little bit of insight into it.

Two effortless catches - both times he looked to distribute quickly[1] - about 6 goal kicks [2], one time when he had to come and catch at the strikers feet [3], and a few touches in open play that he was very, very comfortable with. He was always alert and covered his angles well. He had trouble with one cross right in the last minute, decisive in coming out to grab it (and seemingly called for it) but clashed with Ujfalusi and dropped it.

Or, to sum up, he looked very well rounded and decisive as he often does. He looks tremendously composed for someone so young. Must say I'm a bit excited.

Along with the concentration, a big test will be how he recovers from mistakes.

[1]One a great quick throw, the other a long kick looking to get Aguero in on the counter which just fell short.
[2]Hard to judge because he has no real target, looked accurate though and 4/6 went to a team mate.
[3]Which he did well and then distributed well with a throw again.

Fergie wouldnt talk like that if he wasnt 100% sure that he would come. I am sure personal details are settled, now its just a matter of finding a consens with the club

Because of this:

 SAF called him an outstanding replacement for Edwin, and that was in response to a question where it was stated that the club had announced a new keeper. The comments from SAF in the OP make it pretty clear than everything is agreed.

edit: I fecking hate you Lance.

After the Blackpool game, Fergie was asked about van der Sar and he explained that some time ago van der Sar changed his mind and considered extending his contract for another year. Then Fergie said he told him that this was fine but that Erwin would need to make a decision very quickly, because United were already close to signing a replacement for him. Then Edwin came to Fergie saying he would stick to his original decision and would end his career.

I think it's safe to say that De Gea is already signed or almost already signed.

I know all of that. I'm just saying, we had Mikel nailed on. We had Ronaldinho nailed on. Until it is official that he has signed and the deal is wrapped up, I won't be talking about him as a United player.

Isn't that tapping up?

I'm sure they got permission before and in most cases, the players are approached anyways, to find out whether he's interested or not. Otherwise, they would not make all the fuss and bid for the player.

We never had Ronnie. And yes, we signed Mikel, but Chelsea bought him from us

Yes but that was an EXCEPTIONAL case.

We really didn't.

I'm pretty damn certain the boy has already signed, maybe just a few issues to tie up with the club hence the Athletico stance.

The thing you forgetting is that the clubs first have to agree before he can sign, release clause or not. And that is why I'm a bit cautious. Shit like this has blown up in our faces in the past. I'm sure SAF has spoken to him and the clubs are at the point of agreement, but all I'm saying is that he's not a United player yet.

Well I can't wait for him to put pen to paper and sign a contract.

Really excited to see him play for us, too.

This is seriously being compared to Obi Mikel?

fecking hell, that was a one off in world football, it ain't about to happen again! As for Ronaldinho that was never nailed on either, this on the other hand is, there is only the technicality that the deal can't be signed until the window opens.

What happens when another club comes in with a better offer in a country with a climate him and missus might like? ;)

You can't compare this deal to Mikel/Ronaldinho, no club in our stature is chasing De Gea.

Not true. You can sign a deal at any time, it just comes into force at a specific date (in this case, 1 July) and if you have an agreement with his club

Wait! Was?!?!? Does that mean he potentially didn't turn up?

COCKS BACK IN.

Do medicals not take place at the facilities of United? I am sure they have all the required stuff and docs

Hmmmmm, not sure....Tosic and Ljajic went to a public hospital whereas Owen went to Carrington.

Community shield will be good :3

Will he be involved with the U21 Euros, I think Spain play England.

I'm absolutely thrilled with this probable signing. He could be our keeper for the next twenty odd years. Fantastic prospect,
