David de Gea signs | Confirmed

That's not what he denied - he denied that there was "a deal" with United, and that therefore United would have to pay the full release clause. When asked about the idea of "signing on Monday" he said they've not heard anything official - not from United, not from the player - "it's Wednesday now and De Gea's still here, he'd have to do a medical."

So a bit of an embarrassingly premature release from SAF but nothing to suggest it's all about to go belly up.

He doesn't have a single Spanish cap (only under 17 etc) - isn't this a bit early for him to be at Man Utd as first choice?

With Iker as number 1 and keepers like Valdes and Reina having a combined total of less than 30 caps, it's no surprise that a 20 year old De Gea isn't given a look in.

The deal is done and dusted. There's no chance that Fergie would've been talking like this, if there wasn't even an approach by us.

Ljajic says hello.

Bestower of lies. Dirty dirty lies.

On a more serious note, this could have something to do with the upcoming "Name That Agent!" episode mentioned earlier in the thread.

That's why I think De Gea has been talking about saying nothing until June. I was a bit surprised to hear that SAF had actually said his name. I've decided to be optimistic and assume it means the old/new agents have agreed a deal between themselves rather than we've slipped up.

Brilliant signing andhe has huge potential. He will have ups and downs, make mistakes etc, but we should be patient and he will be top class

We only had an option to buy Ljajic, no? While it seems like we signed De Gea as of now

That quote was from AS, but I wouldn't put too much on it. It seems quite clear it's done.

Enrique Cerezo for his part wanted to close any speculation on the sole of the Cadena SER. "So far we know nothing about De Gea. The player can negotiate but always referring to the clause. Neither United nor the player have told us nothing." (google translate, of course, as Yo no hablo español)

Responding to the news United were closing in on De Gea, Atletico president Enrique Cerezo told Spanish radio station Cadena Ser: "We don't know anything. Officially neither Manchester [United] or the player at this moment have informed us of anything.

:wenger::lol:

"He [De Gea] knows very well that he can negotiate [with other clubs] but always that they have to pay his buy-out clause."

The buy-out clause in De Gea's contract is reportedly in the region of 25m euros [£22m].

With his current deal set to expire in 2013, Atletico had hoping to convince De Gea to sign a new deal, but the keeper has said he will make a decision on his future by the end of June.

Ljajic is somewhat different no?

One rumor, one slight misunderstanding and people go off in a different direction. The deals not concluded. We knew that. The monday that was reported was after the champions league not before. I don't think there's any issues unless the player has a change of heart but then again he's convinced his gf and family to move with him..we also aren't about to change our mind. Think it's pretty much done...without being done ;)

United have already signed De Gea and their season farqing isn't even over yet..... It's farqing incredible.

Wenger no potting about in the media about how you like so and so, and might like to sign unknown French player but they're too expensive... And then leave it all to the last few days. JUST GET SHIT DONE!

I actually deleted that post after reading your explanation regarding the release-clause. In the light of the information that's emerged about the agent situation, that's how I see the "nothing until June" talk as well.

Either that or for some reason he has decided to swim to Manchester over the summer.

Think United would have worked on the player and will pay the release clause. It'd take major balls to try to haggle hehe. Someone made a good point about trying to distract the media....now people are not so obsessed by Giggs..smart management.

This just inspires confidence in the deal IMO. For a club of this size to replace a brilliant keeper like VDS with a boy, he has to be something special.

Ferguson hasn't got a major transfer wrong in some time now.

good point - but nonetheless a bit "bold"

The press are speculating about an announcement Monday following the final. United have not given any date for an official announcement.

does anyone have a video of the managers interview last night.

Not questioning the validity of the comments. I just want to hear the words coming from his mouth

Entirely different circumstances, we had a deal of him and he was due to join us, but we had a clause in the contract which said we can pull the plug on the deal if we want and that's what we did. How is this comparable to De Gea?

Also worth pointing out that Atletico Madrid President has a reputation of being a big liar, so I wouldn't take his word.

They club are playing the old PR game. Shifting the blame on to De Gea's camp for the transfer.

Yep, they are already under huge pressure with other stars leaving. 'oh, we know nothing about it, but we have allowed him to negotiate. If he's done that, it's not our fault...'

The Scot told Sky Sports News: "We've been working on it for quite a while, we identified him a while back as one we should go for.

"He's a young goalkeeper, very quick, with good composure and presence.

"He's an outstanding replacement for Edwin van der Sar.

"We were looking for someone with the same types of qualities. One great quality Edwin always had was his composure and organisational ability.

"David De Gea is very similar that way."

Seems like there is no doubt he will walk into the starting XI, didn't think Fergie was that certain of him.

can you please leave the pics of his girlfriend out of threads in the football forum please?

I dont expect to see them when im scrolling through at work!

Yes, he was mostly talking about Aguero and explaining how, "in the end - they play where they want."

For months the Spanish press have talked about De Gea as if the deal was done and it was just a question of whether De Gea / his girlfriend / his family were ready. Atletico talked vaguely about how De Gea "can have a new deal if he wants one," but it never sounded like more than window dressing. Just like last night's - "know nothing about it" - easier to say that, than talk about their debts or the players they're losing.

They all report different things really.

He's not signed anything yet, so is not a United player. But SAF says it'll happen, so that's as good as done for me.

He cant be a United player until at least July 1st.

He wore Edwin's shirt in one of his first training's at Atletico and his mates started to call him "van der Sar". He's also known as "Russian", because they say he looks like foreigner (neither his father nor mather are blond).
