Good to see although inevitable .Will that be cheque book closed now.

Fergie said 3 signings, Jones didn't factor into that 3, so I still think there's 1 left. Probably a full back if Brown/O'Shea go as expected, but I'm sure most of us are hoping for a CM. We'll see.

Fergie said three signings about two weeks before Scholesy announced his retirement as well. Whether he was still hopeful of keeping him then I don't know.

De Gea
Young
Varane

Those were probably the three. Replaced Varane with Jones and we're done for the summer.

Why would you think that? We haven't replaced Scholes. People say Jones can play midfield but think we'd want bit more experience/creativity

lol - so he's had a medical, leaving very little to discuss so now it becomes a matter of which day he signs officially.

Can't say I've watched him that much but, with as happy people are, I'll take their word for it and say yay yay yay !!!!.

Do wonder what will be going through Lindengaard's mind if a 21 year old is going to be 1st choice - it's not like he can look forward to when he retires to take over the position. I didn't think he came over to us to be a #2. Might be a good thing though if he fights hard enough to try claim the gloves.

now now is it really the time to be all realistic and spoil the parade!

for what its worth, if we get better players in the defence over the period of next 5 years (they are sure to be really good considering what we already have in place)

Obviously! It could only benefit us if players come in and take the place of people that we think are going to be in the team longterm - whether thats because they have injuries or dips in form or whatever, at least it means we covered that and the competition is good.

But realistic is the word. People get a bit carried away with assuming things will go exactly to plan for what, 5 and 12 years as mentioned... Eh in all likelyhood things will have already slightly changed in a couple of seasons. Thats usually the case

Although, I suspect that's David Gill on holiday then. Don't think we getting that mystery CM all the muppets are holding out for. SAF reasoning might be Jones+Young = utility CM. Who knows? I'm not #ITK

We'll sign a midfielder. I just hope its someone ready to really do the job in his first season rather than another longer term project like Anderson was. Whether spending all this money on other players will have any effect on that... I hope not.

Fergie has also said that we will directly replace Paul Scholes.

I've gone a bit more in depth into it in the United forum, but a combination of faith in Anderson and Cleverley (in addition to Carrick, Fletcher, Giggs and these days Park) as well as the young players coming along.

I'm sure he's thinking "great, a World Class keeper has gone and instead of bringing in the likes of Buffon, Reina, Adler, Neuer etc. we've bought a 21 yr old with great potential, I prefer my chances with that than those mentioned above".

Cool so we've got our keeper position sorted. I reckon that should be that for the year.

I can't see it myself. A winger that can play as a forward and a defender that can do a job in the defensive midfielder role (he might grow into a great one but it's at least 2 seasons early for that) to fill in the squad positions of Scholes and Hargreaves, not to mention the fact we were all ready short of midfielders even including Hargreaves.

There is no doubting we need a true midfielder, some argue it's a defensive one, some a box to box, some a metronome and some an attacking one. That all depends on what Ferguson see's in his squad. He might take resposibilities off Fletcher and give him a purely defensive/holding role that he used to excel in, or he might drop Rooney deeper and decide an attacking midfielder isn't needed, he might decide Carrick can be that metronome again but a metronome needs a partner in there to use to dictate the pace and play with.

Far too many variables to guess. Fergie will get it right I'm sure.

This is just way too good. Getting business done early, prepare for the pre-season and the real quest comes August.

Can't wait to see Jones, Young, and De Gea, among others, during the pre-season tour

I'm with you on that but think we'll still buy ;)
