Will he go straight in at number one, or will there be a consistant rotation between him and Lindegaard while they both get experience?

For the price and hype this guy comes with he must be No. 1 right away.

He's played in and won a European final already, along with a Super Cup against Inter, plus plenty La Liga experience. He's ready.

Casillas was only 16 when he got his RM debut. 18 a first team regular. 19 in the CL final. If you're good enough, you're old enough. He even lost his place after bad form but won it back later. If de Gea can recover from any bad spells, he'll be an unbelievable signing.

Sid Lowe on his twitter claimed the De Gea aint ready yet. And some mates who are fans of madrid or barca and who watch la liga each week said they dont think he is ready. Obviously Man United scouts >>>> them all. And i trust in their judgement, but i aint 100% convinced.

Reminds of when people were saying Luke Skywalker was too young to save the galaxy yet according to Yoda he was too old to start training as a Jedi.

You can't have your cake and eat it.

my point he will have to prove he is really ready.

What would he have to do in order to have proved that for you?

Casillas seems to disagree, from what he said about him.

By the way maybe its a little easier in La LIGA for young kid to stay in first team. Say hypothetically Valdes in one match makes 2 mistakes. And Barca because of him concede 2 goals. They still gonna win the match 4-2 or 5-2. GD doesnt matter much. So valdes wont get that much criticism. Now if a Keeper makes 2 mistakes in EPL game, doesnt matter if he even stands in Man United goal. He will most likely cost his team the match.

Yeah because we've never come back from 2 goals down.

All Casillas said that the kid De gea will put them into international retirement. And they need to take care of him cause he is the future of spanish team. All that sounded to me like he is young and learning with amasing future ahead. Not that he is ready NOW.

I can't work out if you're on a WUM, you're a troll or if you're just an idiot.

Ah shit. Valentino's mates don't think he's ready. Fergie's making a terrible mistake :(

what a hell man? did i say that fergie is making a mistake? I immediately said that United scouts judgement obviously are 1000000 times more trusted.

I think Valentino has a point here, it's all Mathematics really.

Valdes + 2 mistakes = 2 goals. Barca + La Liga = 4 goals.
4 goals - 2 goals = Barca win. :)

De Gea + 2 mistakes + Premier League = loss. :(

"He will soon be fighting for my place. He's a great keeper."

"The people of Atletico Madrid have to be so proud that such a great keeper has come out of their academy."

note the present tense.

Depends how many games he gets against PL teams in pre-season. It will take him a few games to get used to the pace and intensity the game is played at in England. Not to mention how little protection the refs will give him, compared to Spain.

Keepers get more protection than anyone, in fact to be honest I think they get too much, you can't go near the keeper any more without the ref blowing his whistle.

Don't know if this has been posted.

Gil Marin also spoke about Diego Forlan - who has seemingly fallen out of favour at the club and is the subject of a bid from Al Wasal - Diego Maradona's new club.

"He will go if someone comes in and meets our needs," he said.

"His relationship with the club has been hampered because he has not thought about the club."

Forlan is unlikely to improve his relationship with the club by telling De Gea he should move to his former club United.

"David is a very good keeper with a bright future. He asked my advice about moving to United and we talked about it a lot," he said.

"It is a great place to experience as a player.

"The manager is a legend, the staff are all really good and the fans were always very supportive of me, even when I wasn't scoring."

Huge difference between the protection they get here and the protection they get in Spain.

I remember Benitez having a moan about it. On the continent, strikers basically aren't allowed even challenge for the ball inside the 6 yard box.

I've made up my mind he's the one that I want. Never mind I've hardly watched on more than a few occasions.

Hm, fair enough, I haven't watched enough La Liga to notice, well that's just gay. Still, he's got Euro experience at a high level, too, so I'm sure he's aware of more than just the Spanish style.

He'll be a great buy. And if Fergie, his staff and VDS think he's got the qualities, the temperament and the talent to become a top class keeper, then I agree. I am willing to give him time and be patient, even if he makes mistakes.

There is never a security for any signing. I thought Veron was going to be the shit, didnt turn out that well. I heard ppl here saying Smalling was a bad buy, yet he did fantastically well in his first season...

Well said Diego

allegedly he wont confirm anything until the u21 championships are out of the way. We could be waiting a month with 'will he or wont he?' scenarios

What the hell is this?

The amount of mistakes done by Atletico Madrid's defence is way higher than United's.

David will be fine.

How about just getting Diego while we're at it to replace Owen.

I thought this was supposed to be finalized today? Cock back in :nervous:
