Came here to see if the vid had been posted. Finally some accountability - the amount of times we just gave up possession last season like this was appalling.

Obviously, but I thought this passing was good too, or atleast that's how I remember it, its a long time back. De Gea seems to agree too.

Excellent, so he's content because his distribution was fine 10 years ago. And I agree, it wasn't bad at all in terms of kicking (he's never been one for the quick throws) but it has been utter shite for the past 3 or 4 years, and believe me I'm not saying distribution is anywhere near the worst aspect of his game.

I'm sick of seeing interviews where this guy is patting himself on the back when he's been quite literally the worst goalkeeper in the entire league at important areas of his game such as crosses and sweeping. I fully expect him to do better in some of those areas this season as we now have a coaching staff that will be expecting more of him but he really needs to lose this attitude. Heck we'd have had 25 pages in the Maguire thread if he'd made an error half as bad as De Gea's for the Palace goal.

Another quote in that interview "But the most important thing for me is making the saves and helping the team." No David, play your part in stopping the fecking shots coming in in the first place and you'll have a lot less shots to actually save. Deal with more than 3% of crosses into the box, help your defenders by sweeping behind them more than once every five games, give your defenders an option in possession when they're under pressure rather than shying away, communicate with the defenders etc.

One more year to go.

Yeah David I had a six pack and could run a marathon 10 years ago. Things change in 10 years.

Watching his games with the national team is probably the last thing he'd want people to do. I thought Ten Hag banned drinking at the club?

Eric Steele emphasised his distribution as a strength too, particularly his long-passing. And even more recently Frans Hoek (who I had been under the impression didn't particularly gel with De Gea) was complimenting him in that regard years after he had left the club:

De Gea can play at Barcelona, Manchester City etc, because he has quality with his feet and many other qualities.

Part of me thinks he regressed in that regard from his early days and even since the LVG days.

But another part of me thinks that in the 11 years since De Gea arrived at United the standard for what's expected from goalkeepers in terms of distribution has just massively increased, to the point where what older generation coaches like Steele and Hoek regard as a good standard of distribution has been outstripped. And that's partly why we remember his distribution as being better back in those days too. It seemed better because his then contemporaries weren't as far ahead of him in that regard as the likes of Ederson, Allison et al are now.

I do wish he'd shave off that beard of his. Edurne must like it, but it's been accentuating his mountain goat look for years now.

Not the best defence considering Sir Alex was here ten years ago and the Spanish team have dropped him for not being good enough. Hopefully he improves this season and doesn't think his performances have been hunky dory.

Too many players are specialists at not taking responsibility for their shortcomings.

Why does he even attempt to claim it if he's going to be such a coward about it? Stay on your line then.

Isn’t good enough.

It’s a shame we’ve only just started building a team once he’s past it as he deserved more, but what can you do.

I don't think there are many worse keepers out there at dealing with crosses. Pisses me off so much. Will be hell being anxious about every single corner against us again this season. Get Romero back and stick him in goal. The lad picked out every corner with ease.

Literally as good as he was at 18. Flat line trajectory for 10+ years in terms of improvement

He’s been afraid of getting hurt for a few years. Just not good enough to be at United and be afraid. We’ve seen it again today. Honestly…

Absolute rubbish and has been for years, an ambitious club would've sold him 2 seasons ago.

People blaming De Gea for everything are more of a cowards than David will ever be. Disgraceful.

Wake up, he made the same mistake twice this game and a countless times in the past. Just wake up.

No more than our struggles in the second half generally, good that ETH gets to experience this issue in pre-season. In terms of set-pieces in particular it's important for him to know Dave is Dave and will keep being Dave.

Sweeping and passing, there might be improvements to be had. But this ain't changing.

ten Hag has told him to start coming out for crosses — there’s your answer, gaffer.

He really is absolutely shite. That attempt at whatever the hell it was he was trying to do on that corner in the second half was something else.

I said it last season and I stand by it: the more we improve, the more noticeable a problem he becomes. He thrives when it’s chaos.

Ten Hag puts him in the bin within twelve months.

Nah mate, if waking up means I will start being a coward like the hate squad, I am good. Anyone thinking that last goal is on Dea Gea might need to watch more football.

Weeks to the season opener... he should really get a grip, that was hairdryer treatment worthy.

He needs replacing if we're serious about winning stuff. For next season, he's fine.
