A flashy shot stopper on the occasion he gets it right, that's all he brings to a team. He has never given me confidence that a top goalie would. I would be surprised if ETH keeps him beyond this season as No. 1
Ecxatcly, at least with his passing you feel he'll make a mistake sooner rather than later (and most games or at least in many he does).
That's certainly not reassuring for the lads in front of him. Psychologically this is clearly not ideal.
His passing isn't even erratic, it's just plain bad. His long kicks are even worse.
Also, he's slow very slow with his distribution whenever he has the ball at his feet thus inviting pressure from the chasing opponent.
But what really gets to me is he has too often brainfarts and his mind just goes blank. he makes wrong decisions, because he is so panicky. For example against Barcelona. He passed it to a Barca player and if it weren't for Martinez and Casemiro sliding in front of the Barca player, we would have been a goal down.
Yeah, I always thought he was treated harshly by Spain. But in hindsight, he just never had the confidence to play for Spain (higher standards than United over the last decade). And now, we're finally starting to look better overall, and his lack of confidence is coming to the fore again.I personally think his confidence is shot. He has always seemed mentally weak, but he’s never been in the firing line as much as he is now, even in the days where he couldn’t catch a ball from a corner.
Would not be surprised if we see another howler before the season is done.
Are they starting to see the light
He makes that kind of mistakes almost every game. Passes the ball straight to an opponent. Weak at crosses, weak at distribution, most mistakes leading to goal and we offer him 200k per week. Sentimentalism has been the undoing of this club.
Positive influence? All his teammates look pissed off with him.Young up and coming keepers don't join to be #2. I think if we sign a young up and coming keeper, he will come in to be #1. And I think ten Hag wants DDG to stick around until the new keeper settles in and also due to DDG reportedly being a positive influence in the dressing room.
ETH should take the blame as well. He thought he could polish turd. Didnt take long for reality to kick in.What would you have done? We were so shit he needed to act

When you actually take in the number of top level mistakes in that clip it's a wonder he's actually got a club let alone our number 1.
I forgot about some there are that many!
It was, and the goal was only part of it. Utterly pathetic. The guy is a complete coward, that display yesterday was embarrassing.
Pack your bags and leave. Will be seriously pissed off if he's still our No1 next season.
Coward.
It makes me miss Romero.I'm sick of crticising David's mistakes.
Heres what should happen:
He should be automatically dropped for the next game after a major balls up like Yesterdays. He should then be determined to up his game and get back into the team. This will build character and He learns from the mistake!
Heres what will happen:
Nothing. He won't be dropped as their is no back up or competition for the No. 1 shirt. So there are no consequences when a player makes a huge mistake in this squad. Therefore player learns nothing, shrugs shoulders and moves on to make even more mistakes.
He's not entirely responsible, but he's played a key role in unravelling what was a positive season. Please be true. Giving him a new contract is just rewarding failure and shows we’ve learnt absolutely nothing from the Woodward era.
That's always going to be a foul against a keeper.I've just watched that Antonio 'foul' again. Never a foul. What an absolute coward he is.
Yeah, this. Just be stronger, don't give the ref a decision to make. Don't make the opposition think you are soft as feck where they then target you every time. It's past that point now and everyone knows what De Gea is and isn't. Not like he could start shit talking on pens now for example, it wouldn't have any impact. Everyone knows he is weak in the air, so teams will always put him under extra pressure and they just pick on his weakness. The Antonio foul was a foul but I think those saying "it's a foul so stop moaning about it" are somewhat missing the point.
There are absolutely some referees who, rightly or wrongly, wouldn't have blown the whistle after that. Equally, I am not 100% certain that VAR would have overturned it had they decided not to give a foul. You don't want to be leaving it up to the referee/VAR to make the "right" call when you don't have to. Even if it was a foul by Antonio, it's still much better if your goalkeeper can take charge of that situation by just claiming the ball.

Remember that Arsenal game last season? He thought he was fouled so he just rolled around on the ground while play was going and their player volleyed it into an empty goal. fecking disgraceful thing to do as a goalkeeper, inexcusable. He was stepped on by his own player too. Does my head in when any player stays down to pretend to be hurt. Just fecking get up and try to win the ball back and whinge when the play stops. The goalkeeper doing it is a disgrace, and he does it regularly.More importantly, it's not an isolated incident. We've got to the point where every time a loopy ball drops into our six yard box there's basically zero expectation that our keeper will do what 99% of top goalkeepers would do and catch the ball above the strikers head. It was the same shit against Villa just two games ago, when people tried to blame Sabitzer for not giving him enough protection. We're basically completely reliant on the ref to give us a soft free-kick or De Gea maybe getting a weak fist to the ball (which often lands in a dangerous area anyway). It's a shocking state of affairs and a huge handicap for the team.
He's the one who benefited the most from the shambles at the club in the last 5 years. Unlike Lingard and Martial and others, he keeps playing no matter what. His position has never been in doubt except for that brief period when Henderson played. The only reason that even happened was that he just had his baby.
The panic I felt in our players yesterday after his mistake was far greater than any I've seen even with Maguire at his worst. I don't think any of our players have any belief in him anymore.
Who is, ironically, an example of someone who has probably been completely broken by playing in front of DDG. Hence he looks like twice the player every time he pulls on an England shirt. And that's playing in front of a goalkeeper as poorly rated on here as Jordan Pickford!
The england play style suits Maguire much better. Maguire was better under Ole as well.
The Maguire out momentum began long before ETH (or, even, Rangnick) was in charge.
Smalling's another CB who looks like a new man when he has a reliable keeper behind him.
