The defense should have stayed alert and got him a clean sheet.

Read a stat that we are the second worst team in the league in terms of clean sheets, two in total, just ahead of Fulham who have one. Shocking really.

DDG is part of the reason we haven't recorded many clean sheets. His level has dropped from previous seasons.

Good games? No, I don't buy it, I'm not talking about saves. De Gea needs to stop inviting pressure, he gifted Watford's regaining of possession at least 5 times or so. and attacking us. Early saves are good but other saves are nothing special.

Yes. That stat was for home games alone. But yes we have been defensively horrible all season long. It has been slightly better after Ole came in but we still make too many defensive mistakes.

another poor performance, dropped the ball in a very dangerous position, and his long balls are pathetic.

Looked better today than he has done recently. This is the type of games that De Gea can do well in though when we are pushed back.

Still I don't think he is in good form yet, but hope he can show his best against Barcelona.

Shot stopping not an issue. He looked scared to come and claim the ball a few times (which would relieve the pressure so much).

Also the threadmark says Wigan

Watford has 8 shots on target. DDG saved us 7 times and was let down by the defenders for the last one.

Regardless, we still won!

When will he ever come out and claim a cross?, God it feels like it is impossible to happen under De Gea.

He is just growing too slowly mentally into his new body. He is quite a bit bigger muscularly than when he started with us, but he has not matched his confidence with his new body. He will never be massive due to his body type & that has dictated how timid he was in crowds of players in the past & still does now. He doesn’t want too much contact in the box, luckily that hasn’t cost us too badly in the past. It may never cost us, but it would instill a lot of confidence in his back four if he became more assertive in the box, especially off of set pieces.

I think we should sell him if Madrid come calling. He's after a huge pay hike and with his contract running down, I'd sell. Can't see Barca being interested in him due to his average to poor distribution, so it's Madrid or signing a £400k a week contract..

I don't like to use this word but he's a pussy on crosses and set pieces. It's usually panic stations in our box because he doesn't come out and he doesn't communicate.

He stops and blocks shots though.

PSG could be lured into buying him as well.

Not enough. I said many times he's not the best GK in the world because of his limitations in distribution and commanding the box.
Agreed. He is the best shot stopper. His distribution is not good enough. He doesn't come out of the box quick enough to intercept through balls or long balls. His handling of crosses has improved to a decent level in the last few years (dipped a bit this year again). He was imo the best in the world for a few years after Neuer got injured. But I think now Ter Stegen is best keeper in the world followed by Oblak. De Gea is third in my list.

The other popular ones like Alisson, Ederson and Courtois are all a level below the above 3.

As much as I don’t want to see him go I have faith in Romero if he does. His recent performances have not been the usual stand out displays (apart from Spurs away). United have made a rod for their own back with the Sanchez deal and now DDG is wanting a huge wage rise, I don’t blame him he has been our best player over the last few years but United have to draw the line somewhere. £400k a week for a keeper?

So do you also believe ter stegen is best keeper in the world?

By the way, he can distribute a lot better if we have the will to play from the back, we don't have that. In terms of commanding the box, he relies on his instincts to make reflex saves than to come out of his line which being a physically weak keeper may be counter productive just like his first season.

Great, so we should add another position to cover in summer by selling him, or you want to go a full season dependent on Romero only ?

I would rather sell him, than give him a wage of £400k a week with his contract running down. In the EPL it would be a advantage to have a good all-around Keeper who could relieve pressure by commanding his box and also have good distribution.

Who that keeper is I don't know, but I'm sure our scouts will have a list of targets..

We have too many positions we want to cover, with other players like Herrera and Pogba we don't know their future yet. GK is the most secured so feel illogical to sell him now and give us one more position we'll need to spend on, and with how much Chelsea spent on a no name keeper like Kepa or what Liverpool paid for Alisson, getting a top GK will cost loads.

I do agree with the point you're making, but the issue here, if reports are to be believed, is that De Gea is asking for £400k a week. For a Goalkeeper, that is ridiculously high IMO, and I could see us letting him go, on that basis alone..

First time I’ve ever said this about De Gea but he’s been poor by his standards this season. The general consensus, which I agree with, is that he is bad at commanding his box. And his sudden tendency for flappy punches is worrying.

In many ways his goalkeeping style is becoming a little outdated. There is such an emphasis now on keepers who can play as auxiliary sweepers and are good with their feet. And it is certainly true that his distribution isn’t the best. It’s almost like how defenders these days are less valued on their actual defending, and more on their playmaling ability.

Lloris showed us yesterday though, that been great sweeping up off your line is all well and good. But if you can’t catch a simple header, you can cost your team the game.

I don’t think the De Gea wages are a result of the Sanchez deal. I think that’s an overblown effect. I think he wants 400k to stay because he’s spending his best years at a club where he is winning very little, and competing for 4th, year after year. If you want to keep one of the world’s best in his position, but you aren’t seriously challenging for the league or CL, you are eventually going to have to overpay for that loyalty.

Always been a bit surprised he's never bothered to put on a bit more size. Obviously he'd sacrifice some of his reflexes and agility potentially, but generally the keepers around De Geas height (Neuer, Ter Stegen) they've always been a bit more muscular to be more imposing in the box.

The giants like Van der Sar and Courtois can stay a bit more slender because they're already so huge because of their height.

Let's not forget De Gea won the Golden Glove last season and he has been in the PFA Team of the Year for the last 4 consecutive seasons.

The goal conceded against Watford was not due to his fault. It was sloppy defending by the defenders. They cost De Gea another clean sheet.

Wolves 2:1 Man Utd
One of the worst performances I have seen from him. He just looked totally lost on the last goal and a number of other times too.

He need to get his act together or get benched against Barcelona. The form has been poor for a long time now.

If he doesn't want to renew he should feck off and play Romero for the rest of the season.

What the hell was he doing for the 2nd goal? He literally cowers away and stands there like a statue. Pathetic tonight.

He is a clown currenrly. Mistakes every game, insecure like a newbie. Absolutely pathetic the last few months

Right now I would not mind him going. We could need an uppgrade and get a more commanding keeper. Although I guess we don't really have the money to get a top quality one.

Hopefully he starts performing though.
