Replace one of the best goalkeepers in the world with someone now-where near as good, just so that the glaziers can pay themselves a higher dividend??

What do you think prospective signings would think of a club that sold their only consistent world class player for a few quid??

To be honest, that's kind of the problem. We are now only looking at mega star signings that we have to sell Manchester Utd to. The players should be selling themselves to us, not vice versa.

We could have bought any of the players Liverpool have signed regardless of having De Gea or not. You think players like Doucoure or Bissaka wouldn't leave Palace and Watford even if we sell De Gea?

We need to be clever in the players we target instead of trying to convince superstars to join us that don't actually want to be here.

It seems we fundamentally disagree on what to expect from a goalkeeper. If you're satisfied with a keeper who's great at shot stopping but nothing else, that's fair, but further debate about de Gea between the two of us is useless.

Yep this is the nonsense of this forum. Im all for opinions but sometimes they end up in the realm of complete stupidity. If the 'only a shot stopper' was sold tomorrow, he'd break the record transfer for a goal keeper at probably 90m. Are you suggesting Real would pay that for DG with the limitations as you discribe them? Who's opinion in the real world rather than this crazy forum universe is more valid, yours or mine?

There are a bunch of better keepers than De Gea. De Gea is probably the most agile, and great at making the highlight reel save. However he lacks in so many other areas. Areas that I thought he would be able to learn. He might make some saves that no other keeper in the world can make, but he also allows goals that most keepers would save...
Thank you for admitting that, because the amount of goals we could concede and points lost in last 4-5 years could be truly scary without that special trait Dave has.

Let's say the only right conclusion is to sell him, just how many players we need to sign this summer ? With search for new and better keeper, which is not that easy as people might think, club could be forced to go for six or even seven new additions which makes things even more complicated on top of problems in midifled, defense and attack.

In the current squad he's closest to becoming a United legend, I'd rather give Romero few games than get rid one of the few players in this squad with true football value.

In short: I don't disagree with you, but there's gotta be better solution in current situation than just dumping our best player from many years.

Obviously, I'm gonna answer mine. Just because a club is willing to spunk 90m on a player, it doesn't mean that that player is worth 90m. We - as United fans - should know that better than anyone.

Look, I know that the vast majority of people think he's one of the best keepers in the world. I'm in the minority. That doesn't make my opinion less valid. The majority of people are wrong all the time. We went on to buy Alexis although plenty of people said he had lost it. And I've heard commentators praising Ashley fecking Young for being a great fullback recently. That's obviously absurd. Being of the same opinion as the majority doesn't make you right if your arguments are bad. And thus far, you've been arguing that coming of the line and securing high balls aren't important facets of a keeper's game, and that de Gea's distribution is fine.

Real Madrid won't offer us anywhere close to £80m for him. Perez isn't as stupid as some some of you think.

All of the "but it's David de Gea!!!" arguments are really tedious.

We all know he is easily the best keeper in the world in some aspects but he has deficiencies also.

Also, the best player in his position (as some might argue he is) isn't always the best player for a particular team's system, I'm not sure why a Goalkeeper should be an exception to this logic. Even peak Zlatan couldn't cut it at Pep's Barca as he wasn't right for that system.

If we want to build from the back, then I'm not sure De Gea is the best man for the job.

I love Dave but he's had a bad season (we've shipped 44 league goals already which is worse than the likes of Everton, Wolves, Newcastle) and that isn't all down to the guys in front of him.

I'm basically just sick of him punting it out aimlessly over and over and then watching us have the win the ball back. This may admittedly be down to tactics rather than just him.

Why are you comparing Young and Alexis to De Gea? De Gea has won GK of the year as recent as last season.......

I'm not. I'm using the cases of Young and Alexis to show that often, the majority and people who're supposed to know a thing or two about football are mistaken in their opinions about certain players' abilities - just like I believe, the majority of people are wrong about de Gea being one of the best keepers in the world.

Actually the vast majority of it is.

I would definitely go with Romero. And while De Gea has made some fantastic saves over the years, I'm not exactly sure how many games he's won us. Last year against Aresnal for sure. Some will say Tottenham this year, but he didn't make any saves that you wouldn't expect a keeper to make. Let's see how good he is tomorrow. Hopefully he can help us get a win at Barca...

Would be definitely helpful if Henderson or Pereira exploded with talent... or possibly find extremely promising young keeper at the market and prepare him to try dethrone Dave naturally by healthy rivalry through next years to come.

Other than that yes indeed, please Dave save us from Barca.

It's a poor comparison as No one rates Young firstly. Secondly Alexis is aging and had been poor for 18 months. De Gea was GK of the year only last season and saved 80% of the shots he faced so he was actually the best performer.

Phenomenal video about DDG’s time at United, well worth the five minutes of y’all’s time.

Barcelona 3:0 Man Utd
Cost us the game really. He has had a terrible season, but this was a new low.

Not sure he will mentally get back to the top and not sure we will be able to sell him after this season for good money either.

Yep awful season, not even just by his high standards either. If he's got anything about him he'll be on the phone to his agent saying 'whatever they were offering just take it' though we may be better off letting him go and going with another keeper - they may not pull off as many worldies but as long as we don't go for someone so obviously shit like Pickford we may be better off as team if said keeper has other attributes

Think he's on his way down. Obviously no way to tell but I'd cash in on him particularly as he obviously doesn't want to be here anymore unless we pay him a ridiculous amount. Get rid and promote Hendo.

He was absolutely sensational for years and he saved us time and again.

He's been terrible this season.

It started with a terrible world cup really for Spain. Back now in Spain and he makes this error.

Big games and De gea don't seem to go that well so I think it is mainly the mental part that is not the best.

I think his performances for Spain and all the media over exaggerating them kinda fecked him up mentally. His first real tournament for his country and he makes a huge mistake which must be playing on his mind.

Based on this season, he does not deserve the huge wage increase.

His distribution compared to the Barca GK is shocking. He just kicks everything out of play.

Criminal mistake. Still in the game until then.

The heads dropped completely after their second.

He's declining. This is the start.

He has been terrible for a full season though. Not sure how it can get much worse. If this is the start we should try to sell him as quick as we can.

Still got the quality to bounce back, but not sure how mentally strong he is though.

Drop him till the end of the fecking season. Romero till he sorts his shite out about his contract.

Either it's bad form or it's contract talk or his head has been turned or little bit of all. But he's been awful recently.

Call me crazy, but I expect him to save that Coutinho shot by his own standards from a year ago.

Our best player is not right in the head now is he.

How many more bs stupid mistakes is he going to make this season?!

Worst season with us by far. Shame, he's always consistently good, barely make mistakes. This season though...
