His penalty record is appalling.

This has been his worst season here since his debut.

Think his terrible World Cup has affected him.

I think people were primarily concerned not about the fact he didn't keep it out, but more due to not even really making an attempt to save it properly.

Not to save properly? That ball swerved like a bitch, nothing DDG could've done. If he stood one more second and that ball would've changed direction he'd look like a fool too

No, I even said in my post I wouldn’t swap for Leno.
You edited your post after I replied.

His kicking has declined, his handling has declined, his penalty saving rubbish. Two mistakes in 2 games against arsenal this year. I think his world cup form has affected him. This contract situation can't be helping. I genuinely think some time off would do him some good.

I don't understand how he managed to be wrong-footed by a shot that started off centrally then swerved fairly late, it was never going in the direction De Gea initially went. From the way Xhaka struck the ball, he should have expected the possibility of a swerve in the direction that occurred. A terrible error.

Yeah that was utterly bizzare. Why move in that direction at all? There was no way a shot from that range could curl into the left corner

Say we were going to penalties in the champions league final, would you sub him off for Romero?
He never looks like getting near any penalties he’s up against.

Had this thought as well. I'm sure it's not as bad as we're making it out to be. But more importantly when was the last high profile big moment pen he's saved? Torres? That's genuinely the only one I remember.

The pen in FA cup semi final I believe. Could have lost it if Lukaku scored it. Lukaku is crap at pens though.

Literally same penalty which lloris saved. De gea just doesn't anticipate correctly.

Poor distribution too.

I agree. The ball went quite centrally, then swerved away at the end. De Gea committed early and when the ball didnt go to his left, he just stopped. It was poor goalkeeping, no two ways about it. Sums him up this last few weeks, since the Spurs away performance, he has been average with plenty of insecurities with kicking and high balls. Lately lets in soft goals too.

Southampton and Arsenal, two bad mistakes on the bounce in the league. Had some panicked moments in Paris too. Needs to wake the f-k up if he's wanting £400k a week.

Seems like half the time he is stood there dreaming what all he is going to buy after he signs his new bumper contract. Distribution has gone to pants. There are times when I feel like he should come out to get the ball but he just stands his ground. Unusually on and off season from Big Dave.

Yes. David is an unbelievable keeper but for someone so good he is atrocious at pens.

He should really sit at home and watch penalties from all PL takers. :)
As for goal he was unlucky, wind changed the direction of the ball although still should have saved it.

Love this place. Even De Gea is crap now.

His form is crap, yes. If that isnt crap what we witnessed the last few weeks compared to what he used to be, then we can all just close the comment function and have a poll option if our players were great, excellent or very good. Romero would perform better than him going by this season.

I've never given him such a low mark but the error for the Xhaka goal was just beyond explanation for any keeper.

Poor preparation before the game. Should've known that the same player literally missed the same penalty he took today last week.

Not blaming him for the first goal though, the ball had a crazy swerve, shit like that happens.

Fans are spoiled. He was in god mode for years, so we forgot that keepers concede goals. Yes he messed up that Xhaka goal, yes he is bad in penalties but he is still the best gk in the world.

Can't blame a GK for a pen unless it's really, really, really bad. His saves during the game matter for more. His clearances however need to be looked at.

Pens are almost entirely down to luck. Some keepers out there very good at them but can't handle a straight ball to save their asses. E.g: Caballero.

Feels like something is off with him. Maybe the contract issue or could be just poor form. Hopefully it's the latter anyway, we need him to step up for us again, top 4 is going to be a tough battle.

I can be quite critical of De Gea but I genuinely think that first goal was a mad fluke.

Particularly from behind it took a crazy banana bend away from where I think it would naturally go.

I think DDG is a shy reserved sort of guy. Remember his first game, he was visibly shaking. That is why he can get caught cold, makes inexplicable mistakes and why he is bad at penalties. You need DDG warmed up and playing on instinct. Give him too much time to think and he gets in his own way.

The hell ? so he saved 4 out of 30 ? That's about 13.3% percentage. Absolute shite record.

I think in a league with so many good keepers he is getting found out a bit now . He is bang average in everything other than shot stopping and when he makes mistakes on shot stopping he is obviously going to be judged harshly. This season he is possibly the 3rd best keeper in the league and is closer to kepa/ Leno than he is to Allison or Ederson

sure shit record. The penalty saves have been higher and higher every season and is up to 30% average in the EPL, but our goalkeeper is way long from that percentage.

Think this requires an asterix. I'll get slaughtered for saying this but I'm not David's biggest fan.

This ia something I've said before and even made as my status.

I like a goalkeeper who commands his area and organises the defence....van der Sar for instance. David lacks this and I've never really taken to him.

Now that his performances are shaky think Romero deserves to start
