Totally agree with you but it seems I know David when I say this but... I think its the confidence and the nerves. You could see it on the replay from last game when he let that goal in how he was nodding his head and thought he could save that shot. Seems like he is falling a bit when it comes to self confidence. But Im pretty sure it will be right back there soon because I know a David with confidence no matter what game he would catch that without any hesitation.

I also think Emilio is working on him, he came off his line a lot, prevented clear goal on Mbappe and cut out numerous balls over the top.

Alongside the recent (short) drop in performances, there's something about his demeanor in games, some subtle change, that suggests his head is not completely there. Even when Rashford scored the penalty he seemed to be held back somehow, though subtly so. I don't know what it is, hopefully just an ebb, but hopefully it is not transfer related.

Shot stopping's (obviously) his best attribute by a distance but I'd say it's harsh to say that the rest of his game has always been average. At 28 you'd think he's still got a good bit in him before declining properly.

I don't understand how he managed to be wrong-footed by a shot that started off centrally then swerved fairly late, it was never going in the direction De Gea initially went. From the way Xhaka struck the ball, he should have expected the possibility of a swerve in the direction that occurred. A terrible error.
