One thing I have noticed about Spanish GK in general is that they are very good in one on one situations primarily because they dont go to ground too early and force the attacker to make the decision. De Gea stood up really well for the first save with his outstretched foot. But against Stoke he did something similar by coming out quick and kicking the ball away.

Fantastic in 1 vs 1 situations, he's made saves in the last few games that I'm quite sure VDS wouldn't have made.

Saying that though, he has to start coming off his line for SOME crosses. He still seems a bit unsure about his decision making, which is understandable, but it puts a lot of pressure on the defence when they know they have to deal with everything inside the box.

I hope he has the bollocks to do this job, because it's just as important as skill (which he undoubtedly has).

The 1st goal conceeded was his fault IMO.
You've got to be kidding me. Made a good save straight after the corner, Frei is unmarked just about eight yards out, absolute unstoppable shot right beside the post with about 10 players in front of De Gea... and it was his fault? Seriously, stop wumming

There was feck all he could do yesterday about any of the goals.

In the first goal he palms it out straight into the danger area. If he can't hold it he needed to try to push it at least a little to the side so there's more of an angle and he has a better chance of stopping any incoming shots. I'm sure he'll do that in a couple of years, but it's something we'll have to accept in the short-term.

He also seems to struggle to judge the flight of the ball anytime it's above his head.

Otherwise, made a couple of great saves.

Like I said on the last page, it wasn't his fault but he should have done better with the first goal.

Missed that, but I saw Evra patting him on the back for it.

Didn't Evra make a mistake in the build up? I think it was more of a "thank you for getting me out of the shit" pat, than a "great save" pat.

The first goal was a rebound from an instinctive save from close range, whether he palmed it out towards the penalty spot or not isn't an issue. Not much else he could have done, and it was awful defending in the first place. Every goal he concedes right now is getting scrutinized, even if they are unstoppable.

The first goal was a combination of errors.

1) We were not set up very well - Giggs guarding the near post!
2) We were not ready.
3) Rio let his man slip him way too easily!!

I noticed he just kicked up the field rather than his usual exemplary distribution a lot more than usual last night.

SUPER-rich Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea was given a yellow card by Tesco — for pinching a £1.19 DOUGHNUT.

The Spaniard, 20, was quizzed by security staff after he scoffed an Original Glazed ring treat from a Krispy Kreme cabinet at a store in Altrincham, Greater Manchester.

De Gea was hauled up after being captured on CCTV helping himself to the treat — but escaped a penalty.

The sticky-fingered stopper — thought to be on £70,000 a week — wolfed down the doughnut in the magazine aisle.

But as he headed for the exit without paying, he was tackled by security staff — one of whom spoke fluent Spanish.

Howler

They took the keeper, signed from Atletico Madrid in the summer in an £18.3million deal, to the store's "stop and search" room.

And they made it clear he had made a right howler by giving him a hairdryer treatment that would have made Man Utd boss Sir Alex Ferguson proud.

De Gea strode into the Tesco Extra with two Spanish pals.

A source said: "They weren't very subtle. They swaggered in chatting loudly in Spanish.

"The security guards who monitor the CCTV watched two of them take a doughnut each out of the Krispy Kreme cabinet.

"Incredibly, they then appeared to try to leave without paying — or buying anything else for that matter."

The source said that when challenged and ushered into the search room, de Gea did not seem to know what was going on and "looked pretty embarrassed".
Last night a Tesco spokesman said: "A customer was spoken to by our security team and the issue was resolved."

Police were not called and no further action was taken.

Tesco has a strict policy of a three-month store ban for alleged shoplifters.

De Gea is regarded as the best young goalkeeper in Europe and was part of the Spain Under-21 team that won this year's European Championship.

His United career got off to a shaky start but he has recently begun to impress with some fine saves.

Sir Alex is fully behind his star signing. He said of de Gea earlier this month: "He's 20 years of age and doesn't know the culture of the country.

"That's a lot to deal with but he has shown great composure about the whole thing.

"He's not got himself flapping about the goalmouth. I think he's absolutely outstanding. The boy is tremendous."

 At least he's trying to bulk up.

He's young 'n lernin...not to nick things when you're on more than £50k a week.

Oh feck off. "The Sun". You don't half pick your moments to credit a lad.

Don't discuss this subject. Leave it in the trashcan where it belongs. It's The Sun = Lies.
We all know how these sort of things work. Let them keep on doing whatever they're doing, but don't pay attention to it.

What's funnier is that it's actually on the front page

For some reason, when I think of the image of him stealing a donut, I imagine him doing it with his keeper gloves on.

fecking discraceful. Fergie would do well to get shot at the 1st opportunity.

First donuts, then jewellrey, then human children. It's a well-trodden path unfortunately.
