Reina commands his area better than any keeper in the league. In his first season in the PL he was terrible at dealing with crosses. Go figure.

In Spain it's a free-kick if an attacker even competes with the keeper for a ball in the 6 yard box. That's an official refereeing directive. I remember Benitez complaining about this once. Moving from that kind of protection to a league where De Gea can take a battering like he did against WBA it's no great surprise he's erring on the side of caution.

That said, even seasoned PL keepers would have conceded that goal. Quality delivery and a 6 foot seven freak meeting it right at the top of his jump after a long run-up. Even if De Gea had come out, who's to say he'd have definitely got the ball?

I would be hoping for a spectacular clash and maybe a foul on DDG.

He's getting better and better, more confident, and even some journos seem to see his talent after all

Remember children, he's only 20 years old. He probably only know 5 or 6 more English words than Tevez.

When he susses the lingo and he has a settled back 4, his awesomeness will shine through. (needs to lose that 'beard' mind)

The beard gives him strength

It might seem too early but i think this guy can be the best keeper in the world in 4-5yrs time. Already is a brilliant shot stopper with superb reflexes. Looks very self assured and confident to add to that. Working with our coaches, he'l massively improve his presence around the 6 yard box and will get much better when dealing with crosses etc. will also bulk up being just 20. i see no reason why he cannot be the best in the world a few years down the line. been very impressed so far.

the biggest beef i had with foster was his mentality. he too was a very good shot stopper tbh but he never really belonged at Manchester United. you need the correct mentality to be a player for a club like ours. The pressure involved is far too much for the meek ones. i remember foster saying something like we're expected to win every game and there's too much pressure which is bad and that he enjoys more at birmingham etc etc. thats signs of someone who isnt good enough mentally.

De Gea is the polar opposite. so much pressure on him past few weeks, its as if the press just wants him to play. so much scrutiny on him. but, he looks so confident when he's playing. you actually feel he's loving life at a big club. some relish the challenge and some falter, he is definitely in the 1st group.

brilliant talent. we have our GK spot secured for 15yrs or so unless he wants to move back to spain later.

Don't, just don't....

Dont know man. he's spanish after all. Barca will be needing a new keeper in some time. with their style of play, they need someone who's good on the ball. De Gea is perfect tbh.

i just dont want to get my hopes up about him retiring here with us. not saying he'l move or anything. just that i cant say for sure that he wont.

I understand your point, but we can't exactly give him a 20 year contract. Football is a changing game, and as far as the future goes, "Only God Knows".

Every time we rotate our keeper for the next year, at least, we'll hear the question of whether De Gea is losing his place from someone.

Fergie will play all three this season.

DDG for Premier League matches and the later rounds of CL
Lindeguard for the group CL matches and perhaps some matches against 'lesser' sides in the league
Amos in cup matches.

wont be surprised to see DDG tomorrow and Lindeguard against Norwich.

Wasnt saying we should anyways. contracts arent worth much anyways. just a bargaining tool to get the right price. if a player wants to leave, he does, regardless of the length of his contract.

What I like is...it's obvious to the rest of the team, David is under a bit of pressure - mostly from the media...but still. And you notice everytime he does something right, all the players go up to congratulate him.

Two incidents that immediately come to mind:
-The penalty against Arsenal
-The 1st save against Stoke, where he tipped the ball on to the cross bar

Whatever else is happening or might happen, at least he knows, the entire team/squad is behind him, and wants him to succeed.

He seems like a really calm guy, he makes VDS look vivacious in comparison. It helps that he doesn't seem the sort that would get rattled too much or let pressure get to him.

He'll look even better when Rio and Vidic are back and they establish a rhythm.

But the beard needs to go, give it a few years and see if it fills out any more...

It was clear fromt he beginning that he has all the attributes to be a brilliant goalkeeper. He is very calm and I like that he shows to be a fighter.

Happy to see for once that he was supported by most of the United fans and not written off immediately

he scares me at the end when that long-range shot from the half-way line nearly went in. :nervous:

That save with his foot was also quite special.

Missed that, but I saw Evra patting him on the back for it.

The long range punt was just fluky - it was swerving and moving all over the place.

I wish he had saved their second goal. He was there but I think he went one foot to the left. It would have one of the best saves I have ever seen.

I think vds with his' longer reach possibly could have saved that. It would have been a wonderful save. His reaction afterwards was brilliant - pre frustration and anger.

I think VDS could have saved that one, he was that kind of goalkeeper: world class. Mind you, I'm not criticizing De Gea, Basel's header was amazing.

There were still a few wobbly moments from balls into the box. You can see has has all the tools in his locker though.

I felt he maybe could have done a little better on the first goal by parrying it away from danger but that's being quite critical.

On the whole it's another very good performance.
