The reasoning was because Lindegaard would get no games during this international week, whereas De Gea would play for Spain's U21s

obviously Fergie hasnt 100% trust in DDG yet if thats true. I have no doubt he will get there, and very quickly under the tutilage of United and Fergie.

But its hard to imagine that VDS would have been (dropped) rested for a league match because he was playing for holland the following week.
Its a shite reason really come to think of it.

If Fergie didn't have 100% trust in De Gea why would he start him away at Stoke and give him the day off at home against Norwich?

Not if the idea isn't about resting one but giving 90 minutes to the other.

Fergie said at the beginning of the season that De Gea is his number one, but that he expects at the beginning for Lindegaard to vie with him for a place; he also added that, long term, 'the boy will make the position his own, there's no doubt about that'.

I find this statement contradicts what you think.

And Pogue also raises a good point.

huh? at home vs norwich is hardly a game he'd ''drop'' De Gea for. He rested him because we have a fantastic No. 2 at the club.

a day off ?? The season is barley a month in. Why should a young goalkeeper have a rest/day off?

Not if the idea isn't about resting one but giving 90 minutes to the other.

why would DDG need a rest? He doesn't. He has only made 8 appearances so far.Giving 90 mins to the apparent No 2 every couple of weeks has hardly been normal practice for SAF over the years! would you agree?

I find it doesn't, you should actually read what I have posted and you will see that I ALSO expect DDG to excel at united. I've no doubt he will, and of course Fergie will expect a fight for number 1 jersey, but to buy a keeper as number 1 and then start leaving him out of CL and PL games is not the norm is it?

For the 3rd time why would DDG need a rest? He is our new multi million pounds signing , he should be playing in every match if the boss is 100% on who he see's as number 1.

Anyway its not an argument I'm after here, maybe its not about trust, in fact trust is the wrong word to use.
Maybe its more to do with the fact the Fergie does not know himself who his number 1 is. Yeah he said he expects AL to fight DDG but maybe he didnt expect it to be so close.

We are just lucky we have 2 smashing keepers. Admittedly Lindergaard looks more mature at present but I think DDG will be Uniteds number 1 for as long as he wants to be as soon as he gets settled down, and unfortunately Lindergaard is too good to keep on a bench.

If your prerogative is DDG was dropped/punished/untrusted, then there's really no way to pursuade the other way. Believe what you want to believe then.

I asked the question. Thats all.

I dont know why he didnt play, I just find it strange that he is getting left out a bit much. It suggests to me Fergie isnt quite sure who is the better of the 2 keepers at the moment.

Why are you's getting your knickers in a twist?

Left out a bit much? He's missed one league game!

PIG played 5 league games last season. So far Lindegaard has played 1 out of 7. At this rate they'll play, more or less, the exact same proportion of games.

It's not about DDG having a rest, more to do with Lindegaard getting a bit of playing time. It was against Norwich. Had we had Amos in the goal or the guy who played for Bolton against Chelsea it wouldn't have mattered.

Why didn't he do it in the past? Well. He's never had a 20 year old goalkeeper with a 27 year old back up.

I suspect it's not really a case of resting De Gea or if anything related to him at all. It's more likely giving Lindegaard a bone, he seems like he is a very good keeper and I think Fergie wants to keep him happy.

Obviously De Gea hasn't established himself in the way Van Der Sar had. It's a stupid comparison frankly given the vast difference in age and experience of the respective keepers. It's obvious though that Fergie sees De Gea as his number 1.

Don't think it had anything to do with trust/not knowing who's #1 at all.

A home match v Norwich is a perfect opportunity to give our number 2 who's begging for minutes a game.

VDS being 40 had alot to do with his rest days and the fact pig played a good few games for a number 2. Would pig have got as many games If VDS was 30? I dont think he would have

if ddg is fit and ready he should play every game, especially in the early parts of the season.
Ferguson has never been sentimental about his keepers.
I think he is giving lindergaard a fair crack of the whip.
And why not, he looks a very good keeper.

Kuszczack started 6 PL games in VDS's first season and 8 in his second.

I think this is more to do with having two new and, by United's standards, relatively inexperienced keepers.

What would happen if De Gea got injured and Lindegaard had never played?

Ferguson has to give him some game time, United need a reserve goalkeeper that's match ready - I'm sure De Gea is the clear number 1 though.

Mate, you have to give your number 2 keeper games. an odd game here and there in the league. Norwich at home are as easy as they come, hence the no 2 being played.

Its has absolutely nothing to do with trust or Sir Alex being in doubt about who our number 1 is. the lad who started for us vs arsenal chelsea city spurs and stoke is most definitely the number 1 and not the guy who started vs norwich at home.

No disrespect to lindergaard, he looks a very good keeper himself and i'd be amazed if he's content sitting on our bench for too long, seems far too good to be the number 2 but he aint the number 1 here. De Gea is

Aye.

It's clear to see that De Gea is the #1 but at the same time Lindegaard needs a few games here and there.

It's not about sentiment in the sense you're looking at it. It's about common sense and man management. He needs to keep his squad of players happy and motivated. The game against Norwich was the perfect game for Lindegaard to get a game. It was a properly competitive premier league encounter to make him feel a part of the squad but wasn't an extremely difficult one either (at least on paper).

I don't see how you can take it as a slight on De Gea, especially given his performances have been solid of late.

I'm not taking it as a bad thing fr ddg at all!
I'm happy lindergaard is getting games.
Just surprised by it last Saturday given lindergaard got a game in the champions league recently!

<3 David de Beard. Wonderful keeper

I assumed Lindegaard was the number 1 when he arrived. Obviously De Gea is number 11 at the moment, but it's nice to see that Lindegaard views it as competition, can only be good for us. I think he's had faultless games when he's played.

Fergie rested VDS plenty of times in league games

His distribution might be good, but he's no Ryan Giggs.

Fergie said the reason he was giving Lindegaard a game was because De Gea had two games coming up for Spain's U-21 whereas Lindegaard was probably not going to play for Denmark because he is a backup. Hence he rested De Gea and gave Anders a chance.
